  • A modeling method for the modal analysis of a pre-twisted multi-packet blade system undergoing rotational motion is presented in this paper. Blades are idealized as pre-twisted cantilever beams that are fixed to a rotating disc. The stiffness coupling effects between blades due to the flexibilities of the disc and the shroud are modeled with discrete springs. The coupling effect between chordwise and flapwise bending deflection is also considered. Hybrid deformation variables are employed to derive the equations of motion. To obtain more general information, the equations of motion are transformed into dimensionless forms in which dimensionless parameters are identified. The effects of the dimensionless parameters and the number of packets as well as blades on the modal characteristics of the rotating multi-packet pre-twisted blade system are investigated with some numerical examples.

  • Electro-optical (EO) characteristics of twisted nematic (TN) - liquid crystal display (LCD) on the NDLC thin film using obliquely ion beam (IB) exposure as new ion beam (IB) type system (DuoPIGatrion ion source). A good uniform alignment of the nematic liquid crystal (NLC) alignment with the ion beam exposure on the NDLC thin film was observed. In addition, it can be achieved the good EO properties of the ion-beam-aligned TN-cell on polyimide surface ; the stable VT curve in the ion-beam-aligned TN cell on the NDLC thin film with ion beam exposure using new type IB equipment was obtained. and the fast response time in the ion-beam-aligned TN cell on the NDLC thin film with ion beam exposure using new type IB equipment was obtained.

  • Recently, it is widely studied to liquid crystal (LC) alignment using ion-beam exposure. Because conventional rubbing method has some problems such as defects from dust and electrostatic charges during rubbing process. Therefore rubbing-free techniques like ion-beam method are strongly required. We studied LC alignment by controlling ion-beam energy density and electro-optical (EO) characteristics of twisted nematic LC on the polyimide surface. In this experiment, a good uniform alignment of the nematic liquid crystal (NLC) with the ion-beam exposure on the polyimide (PI) surface was observed. • We present the alignment characteristics of LC (liquid crystal) molecules on solution-derived HLO (hafnium lanthanum oxide) films fabricated using IB (ion-beam) irradiation. We then demonstrated that LC molecules can be homogeneously and uniformly aligned on the HLO film irradiated at an IB incident energy of 1.2 keV. Physicochemical analysis methods such as atomic force microscopy and X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy were used to verify the LC alignment mechanism on the IB-irradiated HLO film. In addition, the electro-optical performance of a TN (twisted-nematic) cell fabricated using the IB-irradiated HLO film exhibited characteristics superior to those of the conventional TN cell fabricated using a rubbed polyimide layer.

  • Equations of chordwise and flapwise bending motions for the vibration analysis of rotating pre-twisted blades having tapered cross section and setting angle are derived by using hybrid deformation variable modeling. The two motions are couples to each other due to the pre-twisted angle of the beam cross section. The derived equations are transformed into dimensionless forms in which dimensionless parameters are identified. The effects of the dimensionless parameters on the modal characteristics of rotating pre-twisted blades having tapered cross section and orientation angle are investigated. The eigenvalue loci veering phenomena are also investigated and discussed in this work.

  • LCD is not very expensive and according to the principle that twisted-nematic LCD can modulate by electric signal, lots of researches been developed about many of theory, methods of design and calculating parameters effectively. In 1999 J. A. Davis et ai. proposed the method of deciding upon extraordinary and ordinary axis direction, which is based on Blazing Effect, inspect into changes of diffraction patterns. But in laboratory, it is difficulty to observe 5th or 6th diffraction pattern, and not clear in mathematical. In this paper, illuminating circular polarized beam been to TN LCD (twisted-nematic LCD), we found extraordinary axis direction with inspecting into maximum intensity distribution appeared in the side of analyzer Using Jones matrix method, we endowed with mathematical propriety.

  • Recently, it is widely studied to liquid crystal (LC) alignment using ion-beam exposure. Because conventional rubbing method has some problems such as defects from dust and electrostatic charges and rubbing scratch during rubbing process. Moreover rubbing method needs cleaning process to remove these defects. Therefore rubbing-free techniques like ion-beam method are strongly required. We studied LC alignment by controlling ion-beam irradiation angles and electro-optical (EO) characteristics of twisted nematic LC on the polyimide surface. In this experiment, a good uniform alignment of the nematic liquid crystal (NLC) with the ion-beam exposure on the polyimide (PI) surface was observed. We also achieved low pretilt angle as function of ion-beam irradiation angles. X-ray photoelectron spectroscopic (XPS) analysis provided chemical evidence for LC alignment by controlling ion-beam irradiation angles. In addition, it can be achieved the good EO properties of the ion-beam-aligned twisted nematic liquid crystal display (TN-LCD) on PI surface. Some other experiments results and discussion will be included in the presentation.
