  • In terms of power loss, a MOSFET has two advantages over an IGBT with an antiparallel diode: purely resistive without an offset voltage in conduction and no tail current at turn-off. However, the reverse recovery characteristic of the body diode is so poor that MOSFETs have not yet been available for high-voltage power converters with bidirectional power flow legs. This paper introduces how MOSFETs can be fully applied to high-voltage power converters with bidirectional power flow legs in order to achieve high efficiency. With a bidirectional DC-DC converter with one leg as the simplest example, the basic circuit topology and operating principle are described in detail. The high efficiency and stable operation of the proposed converter are validated through experiments with a 1.5 kW prototype.

  • In this paper, an attempt has been made by incorporating variable wheel arrangement for a car-like robot. In this scheme, the car-like robot controls its body height and the length of forward and backward wheels while driving in omni-direction. Experimental results show that the proposed car-like robot with wheel arrangement variable structure presents effectiveness of several situations.(a. left and right turn, b. longitudinal and latitudinal parking, c. control of body height and the length of forward and backward wheels, d. passing over obstacles, e. adaptive cruise control.)

  • This paper presents the design of a palm-sized metamaterial antenna system having reconfigurable polarization as well as dual-band characteristics. Basically, three antennas are laid by 45 degrees in order and excited by a compact metamaterial dual-band power-divider of the in-phase outputs, and the radiated fields of the antennas are mixed to turn the vector of the polarization to another. The validity of the proposed method is verified by observing the in-phase outputs from the odd-numbered power-dividing device for both 900 MHz and 2.4 GHz, and checking the changeable polarization with the antenna gain over 2 dBi for all the polarizations.

  • For the question "when is E(RR) a flat left R-module for any ring R?", in this paper, we deal with a class of modules partaking in the hierarchy of injective and cotorsion modules, so-called Harmanci injective modules, which turn out by the motivation of relations among the concepts of injectivity, flatness and cotorsionness. We give some characterizations and properties of this class of modules. It is shown that the class of all Harmanci injective modules is enveloping, and forms a perfect cotorsion theory with the class of modules whose character modules are Matlis injective. For the objective we pursue, we characterize when the injective envelope of a ring as a module over itself is a flat module.

  • Transport of carbon and boron impurity ions parallel to magnetic field lines in the tokamak SOL (scrape-off layer) is numerically investigated for a one-dimensional steady state. The spatial distributions of density and velocity of the impurity ions in a steady state are calculated by finite difference method for a single-fluid model. The calculated results show that among forces acting on SOL particles thermal force produced tv plasma temperature gradient is a principal force determining the feature of impurity distribution profiles in the tokamak edge. However, strong collisional friction forces appearing dominant in front of the diverter plate restrain impurity ion flows due to temperature gradients from moving toward the midplane. Consequently, the stagnation point develops in the impurity flow by these two forces near the diverter region, in which ion flows change their directions. Impurity ions turn out to be accumulated at the stagnation points, where peaked profiles of highly-ionized state ions are relatively predominant over those of low-ionized state ions.

  • Three aged dogs, all over 15 years old, with multiple seizure events and various neurologic signs such as head turn and ataxia were brought to the referring hospital. Two cases were tentatively diagnosed with intracranial meningioma based on magnetic resonance imaging, and one case was histopathologically confirmed as meningioma at necropsy. All dogs improved after initiation of pulsed high-dose hydroxyurea (HU) treatment. Clinical sign relapses were managed by repeating high-dose HU without obvious side effects. Pulsed high-dose HU can be applied when clinical signs are refractory to the traditionally recommended dosage for intracranial meningioma in dogs.

  • A $g_m$-control technique using a new electronic zener diode (EZD) for CMOS rail-torail input stages is presented. A regulated CMOS inverter is used as an EZD to obtain a constant-$g_m$ input stage. The turn-off characteristic of the proposed EZD is better than that of the existing EZD using two complementarey diodes, and thus, better $g_m$-control can be achieved. With this input stage, a 3V constant-$g_m$ rail-to-rail CMOS op-amp has been designed and fabricated using a $0.8\mu\extrm{m}$single-poly, double-metal CMOS process. Measurements results show that the $g_m$ variation is about 6% over the entire input common-mode range, and the op-amp has a dc gain of 88dB and a unity-gain frequency of 4MHz for $C_L=20pF, R_L=10k\Omega$

  • The thermal front over the shallow coastal seas of Korea during the winter season provides very unique acoustic media such that wave equation is easily separable and the solutions turn out to be very simple and well known. In steady of using the WKB method to solve the radial equation the mode technique have been applied to obtain the solution. The radial propagation is rather weakly influenced by the presence of the thermal front that causes the horizontal variations of the sound speed. The physical description of the sound propagation is also presented in terms of ray tracing.

  • As we have come to realize the problems caused by the modern civilization as well as the importance of the preservation of nature. Ecological building and urban design come to attract more attention. Therefore, the object of this study is providing the design factors and improving the design methods for the developments of ecological housing complex, harmonious with environment. Followings are the results of this study: 1. We need to turn to new trend-Ecological architecture which enables the co-exitence of nature and human being to come over the presence and face new decades. 2. Ecological architecture is based on energy-saving system and give people a healty and comfortable atmosphere. 3. In the city area, the house development should be undertaken to minimize the environmental problem through extremely high ehhiciency and technonogy. 4. We need a new development to preserve natural environment in the suburvan and small or medium city. 5. We have to develope the approach method, which is to maintain the frame of present ecological environment, to be in sympathy with geomorphology, to use the natural material in the rural community.
