Effect on Breaking of Self-Incompatibility by Old-Flower Pollination, NaCl and $CO_2$ Treatment in Astragalus membranaceus Bunge (노화수분, NaCl 및 $CO_2$ 처리가 황기의 자가불화합성 타파에 미치는 영향)

  • This study was conducted to break down the self-incompatibility of Astragalus membranaceus Bunge by old-flower pollination, NaCl and $CO_2$ treatment. The old-flower pollination in green house produced fertilization during the 1st and 2nd day after flowering from early September to early October, but almost no fertilization in late August. The most successful pollination occurred in late September at the 1st day after flowering when pod setting was 33.3% and that of seed set was about 86.2%. The old-flower pollination in field showed pod setting for the control group from late August to early October, but no seed set except the days of mid-September and late September. The most successful pollination occurred in late September during the 2nd day of flowering when the percentage of pod setting was 39% and that of seed set was 94.9%. The wrapping in field set pods from late August to early October, but did not set seeds except in mid and end of September. The percentage of pods was 39% and percentage of seeds was 94.9% about flowering after first day in end of September. by field culture. The best result from NaCl treatment was achieved when 1% NaCl treatment in green house produced 21.3% of pod setting in early October and 66.7% of seed set in late September. In field, NaCl 5% treatment produced best result with 7.3% of pod setting and 90.9% of seed set in mid-September. No differences were observed between the $CO_2$ 700ppm treatment and the control group.

Effect of Pinching and Fruit Setting, and Planting Density on Fruit Quality and Yield of Muskmelon Cultured by Deep Flow Technique (머스크멜론 담액재배에서 적심 및 착과절위와 재식밀도가 과실의 품질 및 수량에 미치는 영향)

  • This study was carried out to determine the optimum nodes of pinching and fruit setting in muskmelon cultured by deep flow technique. A fruit was set either at 7~8th, 11~12th, or 15~16th nodes, and main shoot was pinched either at 22nd or 27th node. Distance between rows was set the same at 100cm, while the distance between plant in the row was set at 25, 35, 45, or 55cm. In treatments with the same node of fruit setting, fruit quality was enhanced and mean fruit weight increased on 22nd node compared to 27th node. terms of fruit quality as affected by node of fruit setting, larger fruits with lower soluble solid concentrations were produced as fruits were set at higher nodes. In terms of planting density, larger fruits with higher concentrations of soluble solid were produced in the 100cm$\times$45cm and 100cm$\times$55cm treatments compared to 100cm$\times$25cm or 100cm$\times$35cm treatment. Total fruit yields decreased as the planting density decreased. However, percent marketable fruits produced was the greatest in the 100cm$\times$45cm treatment, followed in descending order 100cm$\times$25cm, 100cm$\times$35cm, and 100cm$\times$55cm treatments.

Clinical application of maxillary tissue bone-borne expander and biocreative reverse curve system in the orthodontic retreatment of severe anterior open bite with transverse discrepancy: A case report

  • Anterior open bite and transverse discrepancy are often accompanied by hyperdivergent skeletal patterns. In addition, degenerative joint disorders and vertical maxillary excess contribute to an unfavorable convex facial profile with a retruded chin. Correction of this complex three-dimensional problem with orthodontic treatment alone is considered challenging owing to anatomical limitations. Moreover, a history of orthodontic treatment with premolar extraction makes retreatment difficult. This case report illustrates the application of a maxillary tissue bone-borne expander and biocreative reverse curve system in a 23-year-old female patient with a severe anterior open bite and transverse discrepancy who underwent orthodontic treatment with four premolar extractions. By setting the treatment target under precise diagnosis and using appropriate appliances, a satisfactory treatment result could be achieved without orthognathic surgery.

  • Obesity is closely related to chronic diseases and cancer. The present case report aims to discuss the anti-obesity treatment strategy and the evaluation of the clinical progress in a patient with obesity and concurrent fatty liver disease. Following five months of treatment with liraglutide and rosuvastatin, the patient had a weight reduction of 3 kg (4.7%), a decrease in fasting blood sugar by 42 mg/dl (26.6%), a decrease in low-density lipoprotein cholesterol by 82 mg/dl (60.2%), and decrease in alanine transaminase. This case report documented the treatment of a patient with common chronic diseases encountered in the outpatient setting. Based on the therapeutic effects documented in clinical and laboratory indices, the anti-obesity treatment plan significantly aided in managing chronic diseases.

Resistant Gestational Trophoblastic Neoplasia Patients Treated with 5-Fluouracil plus Actinomycin D

  • A combination of 5-fluorouracil plus actinomycin D (5FU plus Act D) is the regimen that has been commonly administered to Chinese and Japanese gestational trophoblastic neoplasia patients as the first or second line of treatment with an excellent outcome. However, the efficacy of this regimen in a salvage setting was unclear. To evaluate the efficacy and safety of the 5 FU plus Act D regimen utilized in this condition, all GTN patients resistant to at least three previous chemotherapy regimens who received the 5 FU plus Act D regimen between August 2009 and January 2011 at Chiang Mai University Hospital were reviewed. There were five cases who met the criteria. Four of those patients were in FIGO stage III to IV with a WHO scoring of more than 12. The median number of cycles for each patient was two and only one case achieved remission while four of the cases were unresponsive. The toxicity was evaluated in 12 cycles. Common complications were uncomplicated myelosuppression and mucositis. In conclusion, this regimen revealed modest efficacy in a salvage setting with manageable toxicity.

Priority-setting in Expanding the Basic Benefit Package in Korean Health Insurance Scheme (건강보험 기본급여의 우선순위)

  • Universal health insurance normally requires a basic benefit package, whose design intersects with almost all other aspects of the health insurance debate. Despite its central importance, basic benefit package has not received the analysis it deserves in Korea. The issue of how to decide which health services should be delivered and to whom has been a matter for consistent policy debate. Many industrialized countries observed in this study have been dealing explicitly or implicitly with the basic benefit package. The methods vary from having a specific positive list of services (Bismarkian countries) to the use of guidelines (Beveridgian countries). The purpose of this paper is to form the underlying principles and process for determining what is included or left out by getting accurate and representative responses from health-related personnel. Mail survey is used. Economic burden for treatment, seriousness of disease and urgency of treatment are ranked at the first three priorities. Services that had been suspended because of financial crisis in health insurance scheme in 2001 were selected as items which should firstly be expanded into coverage. Diagnostic test against heart disease and vaccination were also selected as items which should additionally belong to the list of covered services.

  • Cationic dyeable polyester(CDP) fabric was annealed at varying temperatures range from $120^{\circ}C$ to $220^{\circ}C$ for 1, 3, and 5 min under tension. Dyeing rates of CDP fabrics were measured with cationic and disperse dyes at $100^{\circ}C$ and $120^{\circ}C$ in water system. Also X-ray diffraction pattern, DSC thermograms and dyeability of fabric with cationic and disperse dyes were investigated. The intensities of X-ray diffraction peaks of annealed fabric were increased with increasing in annealed temperature, and peak became sharp with heat setting temperature. The apparent color depth (K/S) of CDP fabric initially decreased with increase of heat-setting temperature up to $160\~180^{\circ}C$ and then increased at higher temperature. The shearing modulus(G) and surface roughness were increased with annealing temperature.

  • Gayageum and Geomungo are the traditional stringed music instrument in Korea. These strings are usually made of raw silk. This study was carried out to investigate the optimum condition for silk string producing method using several kind of silk and setting temperature of silk string. If the ply of strings and twisting condition were same, tenacity and elongation of every silk strings were similar, in spite of silk strings prepared by physically different raw silk. On the other hand, in setting treatment of twisted string, it was disclosed that the proper setting temperature of silk strings were 11$0^{\circ}C$ for 20 min.

  • The study was focused on setting priority for future core technologies in rural development and resources using AHP. The technologies were derived by Delphi method. Evaluation criteria for the priority setting were decided as 'technology', 'market oriented', and 'public concerns' by council. The future core technologies were divided as four groups by importance and R&D level. Technologies in upper two groups were considered in the study. Group I had high importance and high R&D level. Group II had high importance and lower R&D level. Questionnaires were given to 9 specialists in agricultural resources. As the results, 'public concerns' was decided as a most important evaluation criterion. The most important technologies are "technology developing for animal feces and urine treatment, and restoration it to farm land" in group I, and "technology developing for agricultural by-products as energy source" in group II.

  • Lung transplantation is widely accepted as the only viable treatment option for patients with end-stage lung disease. However, the imbalance between the number of suitable donor lungs available and the number of possible candidates often results in intensive care unit (ICU) admission for the latter. In the ICU setting, critical care is essential to keep these patients alive and to successfully bridge to lung transplantation. Proper management in the ICU is also one of the key factors supporting long-term success following transplantation. Critical care includes the provision of respiratory support such as mechanical ventilation (MV) and extracorporeal life support (ECLS). Accordingly, a working knowledge of the common critical care issues related to these unique patients and the early recognition and management of problems that arise before and after transplantation in the ICU setting are crucial for long-term success. In this review, we discuss the management and selection of candidates for lung transplantation as well as existing respiratory support strategies that involve MV and ECLS in the ICU setting.
