Optimal Poultry Litter Management through GIS-based Transportation Analysis System

  • Concentrated poultry production in the State of Alabama, U.S.A. results in excessive poultry litter. Application of poultry litter to pastures and row crops serves as a cheap alternative to commercial fertilizer. However, over the years, poultry litter application to perennial forage crops in the Appalachian Plateau region of North Alabama has resulted in phosphorus (P) buildup in soils. Phosphorus index (P-index) and comprehensive nutrient management plans (CNMP) are often used as a best management practice (BMP) for proper land application of litter. Because nutrient management planning is often not done for small animal feeding operations (AFOs), and also because, in case of excess litter, litter transportation infrastructure has not been developed, over application of poultry litter to near by area is a common practice. To alleviate this problem, optimal poultry litter management and transportation infrastructure needs to be developed. This paper presents a methodology to optimize poultry litter application and transportation through efficient nutrient management planning and transportation network analysis. The goal was accomplished through implementation of three important modules, a P-Index module, a CNMP module, and a transportation network analysis module within ArcGIS, a Geographic Information System (GIS). The CNMP and P-Index modules assist with land application of poultry litter at a rate that is protective of water quality, while the transportation network analysis module helps transport excess litter to areas requiring litter in the Appalachian Plateau and Black Belt (a nutrient-deficient area) regions. Once fully developed and implemented, such a system will help alleviate water quality problems in the Appalachian Plateau region and poor soil fertility problems in the Black Belt region by optimizing land application and transportation. The utility of the methodology is illustrated through a hypothetical case study.

  • This paper deals with the problem of determining the optimal inventory-transportation policy of the idealistically simple inventory-transportation system with the following assumptions: (1) The system consists of a single central warehouse and a single local warehouse, (2) The planning horizon is finite, (3) Demand rate is fixed costant, and so forth. Developed is the algorithm by which to identify the optimal inventory policy which minimizes the total cost incurred to the system over the given finite planning horizon. A sample numerical example is presented along with a discussion of the possible applications of the approach used n the algorithm.

  • 어장 보호 시스템(FSS)은 어장 도적을 방지하기 위한 시스템이다. FSS를 개발하기 위해서는 실제 어장의 다양한 자연환경에서 작동할 수 있는 특수한 실험 시스템이 필요하다. 이 연구에서는 이러한 실험 장치로서 소형 밴 차량과 상업용 레이더, 레이더 스캔 컨버터(RSC), 컴퓨터 시스템을 이용한 레이더 측정 차량 구현에 관해서 최근 도출된 몇 가지 연구결과를 기술하였다. 레이더 차량을 이용하여 레이더 스캐너의 높이와 레이더 스캐너 양 측면에 특수한 부엽억제 물질을 부착하는 경우 등의 해면반사 영향을 측정할 수 있다. 또한, RSC의 디지털 레이더 신호에 대한 후처리를 검토한 후, 새로운 RSC를 설계하고 개발하였다.

전국호환 교통카드 이용정보의 유통관리를 위한 호환 교통정보집계시스템 구축 (To Manage Use-Data of Nation-wide Transportation Card, Interoperable Traffic Information Collection System Development)

  • 대중교통 정책 수립에 반영하기 위하여 실시하는 기존 대중교통 관련 이용실태 조사는 설문조사자가 대중교통 이용자를 대상으로 직접조사를 하거나, 특정 교통카드 사업자의 카드 사용 내역 중 특정일에 대한 데이터를 기준으로 분석하여 진행하기 때문에 많은 문제가 있었다. 이를 해결하기 위하여 본 논문에서는 전국호환 교통카드 시스템의 전국호환 교통카드 이용자료를 체계적이고 효율적으로 수집하고, 정확하게 집계하며, 간편한 조회를 가능하게 하는 호환 교통정보집계시스템을 개발하였다. 이 호환 교통정보집계시스템은 교통카드 이용자료를 수집 및 집계하는 연계서버와 이를 저장하는 DB서버 그리고 필요한 정보를 조회할 수 있는 조회 단말로 구성된다. 이렇게 개발한 호환 교통정보집계시스템을 검증하기 위해 금융결제원, 코레일네트웍스, 하이플러스카드가 개발하는 전국호환 교통카드 시스템과 연계하여 테스트베드를 운행하여 성공적으로 마쳤다. 이로써 호환 교통정보집계시스템은 체계적인 정보 수집 및 집계 기능과 정확하고 간편한 조회가 가능함을 증명하였다. 따라서 대중교통정책 수립 시 보다 신뢰성 있는 정보의 효율적인 반영을 기대할 수 있다.

구두 상부용 가죽의 인장 회복량 측정실험 (Measurement of Tensile Relaxation of Leather for Shoe Uppers)

  • In general, the shoe stretcher is utilized to stretching the leather of shoe upper in the longitudinal direction. In the capstone design class, we tried to make a shoe leather stretcher for the ball of foot. Since a natural cow leather was recovered in length according to relaxation time after stretched, it was difficult to predict the initial amount of set up of stretching. In this paper, tensile and relaxation experiments were conducted in order to predict the amount of initial stretching for appropriate tensile length. Apparatus of leather stretching was designed and strains of leather were measured according to relaxation times of 12, 18, 24 hours after stretching of 24 hours. It was revealed that the ratio of the final relaxed strain and the initial applied strain was about 0.404 with R-square of 0.990 for a shoe cow leather.

한.중간 열차페리를 이용한 화물수송방안연구 (Study on Freight Transportation with Train Ferry between Korea and China)

  • Trade between Korea and China was 372million dollars accounting for 1.56% of total in 1988 and has been increased to 23,689 million dollars occupying 7% in 1997, which implies 32.2% increase on average per year. This trend will continue dramatically and consistently as China's open policy toward the world accelerates and korean companies advance into chinese market. The main trade routes are with marine transportation between korean west sea area and chinese San-Dong peninsula around east sea. However, due to the increasing traffic congestion on main roads connecting harbors and main consumer cities and capacity problem in west sea harbor areas, the logistics cost have been increased resulting in losing competitiveness of freight trade. Therefore, these road-oriented inland transportation means need to be changed to rail transport system to reduce congestion and to conserve natural environment. To achieve this scheme, efficient intermodal transportation system connecting road and rail should be constructed. These combined system will ensure timely delivery of goods and consequently the customers would make proper transportation schedule for the import/export goods in advance. Especially, combined transportation of Railroad and train ferry would cope with the logistics problem and this system would be efficient means for trade with not only China but further with many adjacent countries in central asia such as Kazakhstan and Uzbekistan

동적 해상운송계획 수립을 위한 에이전트 시스템에 관한 연구 (Research on Agent System for Dynamic Maritime Transportation Planning)

  • The most of international shipping cargoes are transported by ship and the shipping market has been continuously increasing. However, due to the recent global recession, the volume of trade decreased accordingly, and the competition between shippers to gain a competitive advantage in the shipping market continues deepening. To do this, researches on transportation costs savings as well as ways to improve customer service are needed and recently related researches are being pursued. Car carriers which transport more than 80% of car import and export volume in the world also make a lot of effort in order to reduce transportation costs, but in contrast related researches are seldom fulfilled. In this study, we developed an agent system that supports the efficient transportation of car carriers plan so that the car carriers can increase competitiveness through reduction of the logistics costs. To make this, we researched an algorithm for maritime transportation planning, and also developed a prototype of an agent system which can collect the necessary information in real time and establish a dynamic plan.

  • The rapid increase in the freight movement in Korea demands the improvement of the freight transportation system both in quantity and in quality. In recent studies integrated freight terminals have been suggested as the most relevant physical facility that solves this problem. This paper is aiming at the efficiency of the freight transportation system in Korea via integrated freight terminals. We develop a mixed integer programming model to determine simultaneously the most efficient freight flow patterns as well as the optimal locations and sizes of the integrated freight terminal facilities. The results of the model implication is also presented.
