This paper reports the transparent electrode, which would be applied to transparent displays and smart glasses. Herein, a squared metal mesh with the most widely used copper wire in microwaves is studied for the alternating thin-film-type transparent and conducting indium tin oxide(ITO), with a low conductivity(sheet resistance > $5{\Omega}/sq.$). The electromagnetic performance of a patch antenna with metal mesh is analyzed. This paper presents the results of the optical(OT, optical transparent) and electrical(sheet resistance) characteristics of a squared metal mesh, which is a basic design. To improve the OT, copper wire(w=0.2 mm) is used in fabricating the squared metal mesh and the relationship between the OT and the antenna performance(radiation gain, radiation pattern) was analyzed according to the mesh size(l=1, 2 mm). The measurement results show that the antenna performance and the optical characteristic are in inverse proportion to each other. In real applications, the optical and electrical characteristics, and the costs of production are to be considered.
The effect of addition of inorganic salts in polyethersulfone (PES) polymer solution on the membrane formation and ultrafiltartion performance was studied through the thermodynamic and kinetic properties of casting solution. To control the thermodynamic and kinetic properties of casting solution, various inorganic salts $[CaC1_2, LiCl, LiClO_4, ZnC1_2 $and Mg(ClO_4)_2]$ were added in the PES/NMP solution. Variation of membrane morphology and performance of the resulting membranes with change of the salt type and content added in tasting solution were discussed using viscosity, coagulation value, light transmittance measurement, overall membrane porosity, ultrafiltration experiment and cross-sectional SEM image. For all kind of inorganic salts, according as increase of the salt content in casting solution, viscosity is increased, coagulation value becomes lower, top layer thickness below the skin surface is increased, bovine serum albumin(BSA) rejection decreased and pure water flux is increased except $CaC1_2$ and LiCl. In case of $CaC1_2$ and LiCl, it is found that when the salt content is increased, the formation of macrovoids is suppressed and the precipitation rate becomes slow while instantaneous demixing of precipitation type is maintained. However, in case of $LiClO_4$ and $Mg(ClO_4)_2,$ it is found that precipitation rate becomes faster.
Indium oxide $(In_2O_3)$ thin films have been prepared on glass substrate by using radio-frequency reactive magnetron sputtering with changing the oxygen flow ratio. The substrate temperature was kept at a fixed value of $400^{\circ}C$, and the sputtering gas and reactive gas were supplied with argon and oxygen, respectively. The oxygen partial flow ratio was varied by controlling the amount of oxygen with respect to the total mixed gases, 10%, 20%, 30%, 40%, and 50%. The optical, electrical, and structural properties of the deposited thin films were investigated by using ultraviolet-visible-near infrared spectrophotometer, Hall measurement, and X-ray diffractometer and scanning electron microscopy. The $In_2O_3$ thin film deposited at 20% of oxygen flow ratio showed an average transmittance of 86% in the wavelength range of 430~1,100 nm, an electrical resistivity of $1.1{\times}10^{-1}{\Omega}cm$. The results show that the transparent conducting films with optimum conditions can be achieved by controlling the oxygen flow ratio.

The 5 wt.% Ga-doped zinc oxide (GZO) thin films were fabricated on PES substrates with various RF power 50~80 W by using RF magnetron sputtering in order to investigate the optical and electrical properties of GZO thin films. The XRD measurement showed that GZO thin films exhibit c-axis orientation. At a RF power of 70W, the GZO thin film showed the highest (002) diffraction peak with a Full-Width-Half-Maximum (FWHM) of $0.44^{\circ}$. AFM analysis showed that the lowest surface roughness (0.20 nm) was obtained for the GZO thin film fabricated at 70 W of RF power. The electrical property indicated that the minimum resistivity ($6.93{\times}10^{-4}{\Omega}{\cdot}cm$) and maximum carrier concentration ($7.04{\times}10^{20}cm^{-3}$) and hall mobility ($12.70cm^2/Vs$) were obtained in the GZO thin film fabricated at 70W of RF power. The optical transmittance in the visible region was higher than 80 %, regardless of RF power. The optical band-gap showed the slight blue-shift with increased in carrier concentration which can be explained by the Burstein-Moss effect.

In general, polyimides (PIs) are used in liquid crystal displays (LCDs) as alignment layer of liquid crystals (LCs). Up to date, the rubbing alignment technique has been widely used to align liquid crystals on the PI surface, which is suitable for mass-production of LCDs because of its simple process and high productivity. However, this method has some disadvantages. Rubbed PI surfaces include the debris left by the cloth and the generation of electrostatic charges during rubbing process. Therefore, rubbing-free techniques for LC alignment are strongly required in LCD technology. In this experiment, PI was uniformly coated on indium-tin-oxide electrode substrates to form LC alignment layers using a spin-coating method and the PI layers were subsequently imidized at 433 K for 1 h. The thickness of the PI layer was set at 50 nm. The LC alignment layer surfaces were exposed to an $Ar^+$ ion-beam under various ion-beam energies. The antiparallel cells and twisted-nematic (TN) cells for the measurement of pretile angle and electro-optical characteristics were fabricated with the cell gap of 60 and $5\;{\mu}m$, respectively. The LC cells were filled with nematic LC (NLC, MJ001929, Merck) and were assembled. The NLC alignment capability on ion-beam-treated PI was observed using photomicroscope and the pretilt angle of the NLC was measured by the crystal-rotation method at room temperature. Voltage-transmittance (V-T) and response time characteristics of the ion-beam irradiated TN cell were measured by a LCD evaluation system.

This study was conducted to investigate the possibility of rapid and non-des tructive evalution of AV (Acid Value), IV (Iodine Value) and fatty acids in sesame oils. The samples were scanned over the range $400\sim2500nm$ using transmittance spectrum of NIRS(Near-infrared spectroscopy). A calibration equation calculated by MPLS regression technique was developed and correlation coefficient of determination for AV, IV, palmitic acid, stearic acid, linoleic acid and linolenic acid content were 0.9907, 0.9677, 0.9527, 0.9210, 0.9829, 0.9736 and 0.9709 respectively. The validation model for measuring the AV content had R of 0.989, SEP of 0.058 and IV content had R of 0.944, SEP of 0.562 and palmitic acid content had R of 0.924, SEP of 0.194 and stearic acid content had R of 0.717, SEP of 0.168 and oleic acid content had R of 0.989, SEP of 0.221 and linoleic acid content had R of 0.967, SEP of 0.297 and linolenic acid content had R of 0.853, SEP of 0.480 by MPLS. The obtained results indicate that the NIRS procedure can potentially be used as a non-destructive analysis method for the purpose of rapid and simple measurement of AV, IV and fatty acids in sesame oils.

Carbon nanotubes (CNTs) are structures of carbon atoms bonded together in hexagonal honeycomb shapes, with multi-walled CNTs having a very high thermal conductivity of $3000W/m{\cdot}K$ and single-walled CNTs having a conductivity of $6000W/m{\cdot}K$. In this work, the transmittance and the thermal diffusivity of a multi-walled carbon nanotube dispersion with a concentration of 1.5 M were measured using a single beam method, a dual beam method, and the thermal lens effect. The nonlinear optical coefficients were obtained by using the z-scan method, which moved the sample in the direction of propagation of the single laser beam, propagation and the thermal diffusivity was measured using a double laser beam. As a pump beam, a diode-pumped solid state (DPSS) laser with a wavelength of 532 nm and an intensity of 100 mW was used. As the probe beam, a He-Ne laser having a wavelength of 633 nm and an intensity of 5 mW was used. The experimental result shows that when the concentrations of the sample were 9.99, 11.10, 16.65, and 19.98 mM, the nonlinear absorption coefficients were 0.046, 0.051, 0.136 and 0.169 m/W, respectively. Also, the nonlinear refractive indices were 0.20, 0.51, 1.25 and $1.32{\times}10^{-11}m^2/W$, respectively, and the average thermal diffusivity was $1.33{\times}10^{-6}m^2/s$.

The seasonal variations in weather parameters can significantly affect the atmospheric transmission characteristics. Herein, we propose a novel augmented multiple regression algorithm for the accurate estimation of atmospheric transmittance and solar irradiance over highly localized areas. The algorithm employs 1) adaptive atmospheric model selection using measured meteorological data and 2) multiple linear regression computation augmented with the conventional application of MODerate resolution atmospheric TRANsmission (MODTRAN). In this study, the proposed algorithm was employed to estimate the solar irradiance over Taean coastal area using the 2018 clear days' meteorological data of the area, and the results were compared with the measurement data. The difference between the measured and computed solar irradiance significantly improved from 89.27 ± 48.08σ W/㎡ (with standard MODTRAN) to 21.35 ± 16.54σ W/㎡ (with augmented multiple regression algorithm). The novel method proposed herein can be a useful tool for the accurate estimation of solar irradiance and atmospheric transmission characteristics of highly localized areas with various weather conditions; it can also be used to correct remotely sensed atmospheric data of such areas.
Purpose: The ultraviolet reflectance and transmittance of coastal building materials are one of the important factors of ultraviolet radiation in and out of coastal building. In this research, the ultraviolet spectral reflectance of many kinds of building materials was measured. Also, the relationships with the lightness, roughness, and chromaticity, which are surface characteristics, were reviewed and suggested. Method: In this study, according to the CIE classification, the ultraviolet region was defined as short-wavelength region UV-C(10nm~280nm), medium-wavelength region UV-B (280-315 nm), and long-wavelength region UV-A (315-400nm), and the visible light region was defined as (400nm~780nm). Spectrophotometer was used to continuously measure the reflectance from the ultraviolet region to the visible light region. Results: From the measurement results, the ultraviolet reflectance on Wood was shown to be about Visible 55-68%, UV-A* 7-12%, and UV-B 4-5%. Wall tiles are about Visible18-40%, UV-A* 8-20%, and UV-B* 7-8%. That on concrete was shown to be about Visible 37%, UV-A* 28%, and UV-B*19%. Conclusion: The ultraviolet reflectance can be estimated by visible reflectance. Also, it is important to select a variety of materials according to the application when blocking UV.

CaF2 single crystal has a large band gap (12 eV), and it is used for optical windows, prisms, and lenses due to its excellent transmittance in a wide wavelength range and low refractive index. Moreover, it is expected to be one of the materials for ultraviolet transmissive laser optical components. CaF2 belongs to the fluoride compounds and has a face-centered cubic (FCC) structure with three sub-lattices. The representative method for CaF2 single crystal growth is Czochralski, which method has the advantages of high production efficiency and the ability to make large crystals. In this study, X-ray diffraction (XRD), X-ray rocking curves (XRC) measurement, and chemical etching were performed to analyze the crystallinity and defect density of the CaF2 single crystals, grown by the Czochralski method. Fourier-transform infrared spectroscopy (FT-IR) and UV-VIS-NIR spectroscopy systems were used to investigate the optical properties of the CaF2 crystal. The provability of various applications, including UV application, was systematically investigated with various analysis results.
