Unexpectedly, the brightest row was known to represents the lowest lying Te atoms in the STM image of NbTe2. Projected density of states and crystal orbital overlap population show that the 5pz orbital of the lowest lying Te(2) atom doe s not interact with the 4d orbital of Nb strongly so that the 5pz band remains in the vicinity of the Fermi energy. Consequently the lowest lying Te(2) atoms contribute higher electron density near the Fermi energy which in turn exhibits brightest image in the STM experiments.

A silver indium sulfide ($AgInS_{2}$) epilayer was grown by the hot wall epitaxy method, which has not been reported in the literature. The grown $AgInS_{2}$ epilayer has found to be a chalcopyrite structure and evaluated to be high quality crystal. From the photocurrent measurement in the temperature range from 30 K to 300 K, the two peaks of A and B were only observed, whereas the three peaks of A, B, and C were seen in the PC spectrum of 10 K. These peaks are ascribed to the band-to-band transition. The valence band splitting of $AgInS_{2}$ was investigated by means of the photocurrent measurement. The crystal field splitting, ${\Delta}cr$, and the spin orbit splitting, ${\Delta}so$, have been obtained to be 0.150 eV and 0.009 eV at 10 K, respectively. And, the energy band gap at room temperature has been determined to be 1.868 eV. Also, the temperature dependence of the energy band gap, $E_{g}$(T), was determined.

In this paper, we introduced the design technique about a Ka band receive module for millimeter wave seekers. The receiver module consists of a waveguide, circulator and transition for antenna connection, and a limiter and gain control amplifier for receiver protection. This module is comprised of a sum, azimuth and elevation channel for receiving monopules signal, and a SLB channel for the acquisition of jamming signal. In this paper, receiver gain and range of gain control dependent on ADC nonlinear characteristic was analyzed and designed for wide dynamic range receive. In the test result of the fabricated Ka-band receive, the frequency band is 1 GHz, the noise figure is as low as 8.2 dB, the gain is $56{\pm}2dB$, the dynamic range is 135 dB, the gain congtrol is more than 86 dB, the channel isolation is more than 35 dB.

Optical absorption and photoluminescences(PL) of MgGa2Se4 and MgGa2Se4 : Co2+ single crustals were guown by the Bridgman method have been investigated in the visible and near-in frared regions. The optical absorption spectrum showed three absorption peak at 760 nm(13158nm, -1, 1.63eV), 1640nm(6097cm-1, 0.75eV).and 2500nm(4000cm-1,0.49eV) which are assigned the electronic transitions between the ground state and excited states of Co2+ ions with Td sym-metry in MgGa2Se4 host lattice. In PL spectrum the visible emission bands as well as the infrared emission band in these single cuystals are obserned. The visible emission bands are explained due to the radiative transitions of electrons from quasi continusly distributed tarps below the bottom of the conduction band to acceptor levels above the top of the valence band in the proposed energy level scheme. At the same time, it is considered that the infrated emission bands are attributed to electron transitions from the deep levels to the acceptor levels. The mechanism of the optical transition os well explained in terms of the energy diagram of MgGa2Se4.
The effect of structure size on the nominal strength of unidirectional fiber-polymer composites, failing by propagation of a kink band with fiber microbuckling, is analyzed experimentally and theoretically. Tests of novel geometrically similar carbon-PEEK specimens, with notches slanted so as to lead to a pure kink band (without shear or splitting cracks), are conducted. The specimens are rectangular strips of widths 15.875, 31.75. and 63.5 mm (0.625, 1.25 and 2.5 in and gage lengths 39.7, 79.375 and 158.75 mm (1.563, 3.125 and 6.25 in.). They reveal the existence of a strong (deterministic. non-statistical) size effect. The doubly logarithmic plot of the nominal strength (load divided by size and thickness) versus the characteristic size agrees with the approximate size effect law proposed for quasibrittle failures in 1983 by Bazant This law represents a gradual transition from a horizontal asymptote, representing the case of no size effect (characteristic of plasticity or strength criteria), to an asymptote of slope -1/2 (characteristic of linear elastic fracture mechanics. LEFM) . The size effect law for notched specimens permits easy identification of the fracture energy of the kink bandand the length of the fracture process zone at the front of the band solely from the measurements of maximum loads. Optimum fits of the test results by the size effect law are obtained, and the size effect law parameters are then used to identify the material fracture characteristics, Particularly the fracture energy and the effective length of the fracture process zone. The results suggest that composite size effect must be considered in strengthening existing concrete structural members such as bridge columns and beams using a composite retrofitting technique.
To understand the basic physics underlying large spatial fluctuations of intensity and Doppler shift, we have investigated the dynamical charctersitics of the transition region of the quiet sun by analyzing a raster scan of high resolution UV spectral band containing H Lyman lines and a S VI line. The spectra were taken from a quiet area of $100'\times100'$ located near the disk center by SUMER on board SOHO. The spectral band ranges from 906 A to 950 A with spatial and spectral resolution of 1v and $0.044 {\AA}$, respectively. The parameters of individual spectral lines were determined from a single Gaussian fit to each spectral line. Then, spatial correlation analyses have been made among the line parameters. Important findings emerged from the present analysis are as follows. (1) The integrated intensity maps of the observed area of H I 931 line $(1\times10^4 K)$ and S VI 933 line $(2\times10^5 K)$ look very smilar to each other with the same characterstic size of 5". An important difference, however, is that the intensity ratio of brighter network regions to darker cell regions is much larger in S VI 933 line than that in H I 931 line. (2) Dynamical features represented by Doppler shifts and line widths are smaller than those features seen in intensity maps. The features are found to be changing rapidly with time within a time scale shorter than the integration time, 110 seconds, while the intensity structure remains nearly unchanged during the same time interval. (3) The line intensity of S VI is quite strongly correlated with that of H I lines, but the Doppler shift correlation between the two lines is not as strong as the intensity correlation. The correlation length of the intensity structure is found to be about 5.7' (4100 km), which is at least 3 times larger than that of the velocity structure. These findings support the notion that the basic unit of the transition region of the quiet sun is a loop-like structure with a size of a few $10^3 km$, within which a number of unresolved smaller velocity structures are present.
Ternary heavy metal oxide glasses in the $PbO-Bi_2O_3-Ga_2O_3$ system doped with $Er_2O_3$ were prepared and their spectroscopic properties, such as radiative transition probability, calculated and measured radiative lifetimes and cross-sections of 1.5 $\mu\textrm{m}$ and 2.7 $\mu\textrm{m}$ emissions were analyzed. Enhanced quantum efficiencies of some electronic transitions were evident mainly because of the low vibrational phonon energy ($~500cm^{-1}$) inherent in the host glasses. This seems to be the main reason for obtaining the 2.7 $\mu\textrm{m}$ luminescence which is normally quenched in the conventional oxide glasses. In addition, green and red fluorescence emissions were observed through the frequency upconversion processes of the 798 nm excitation. Non-radiative transition due to the multiphonon relaxation is a dominant lifetime-shortening mechanism in the 4f-4f transitions in $Er^{3+}$ ion except for the $^4S_{3/2}{\rightarrow}^4I_{15/2}$ transition where a non-radiative transfer to band-gap excitation of the host glasses is dominant. Melting of glasses under an inert gas atmosphere and (or) addition of the typical glass-network former into glasses is necessary in order to enhance the quantum efficiency of the transition.
Though the digital transition of terrestrial TV has been completed, the transmission system for terrestrial radio has not been determined and terrestrial radio still keeps its analog transmission. This study, under coorientation model, aims to explore the cognitive difference in recognizing important factors to be considered in deciding the digital radio transmission system between the employees of terrestrial broadcasters and then crucial issues related to the factors are driven. It has been found that the most big cognitive difference among the employees of three major terrestrial broadcasters lies in selecting frequency band for digital radio transmission. But there was little difference of opinion on simultaneous production-transmission, efficiency of frequency usage, broadcast quality and standards of service. The most disputable point in transition to digital radio broadcasting is selecting the frequency band for digital radio between the frequency bands used for FM radio broadcast (88-108MHz), terrestrial DMB (VHF Ch7~13) and FM radio adjacent broadcast band (76~88MHz: VHF Ch5~6). So, the question concludes into the selection issue between DAB+, HD-Radio, and DRM+. To improve the quality of radio broadcasting service and enhance the satisfaction of listeners, it is desirable to allow to operate both production system and transmission station, to enhance high transmission efficiency with minimum transmission facility, and to permit new entrance of broadcasters.

For the purpose of Application to the small radar sensor, the MMIC Chip, which is the core component of the W-band, was designed in Korea according to the characteristics of the transceiver and manufactured by 0.1㎛ GaAs pHEMT process, and compared with the MMIC chip purchased overseas. The noise figure of low noise amplifier, insertion loss of the switch and image rejection performance of the down-converted mixer MMIC chip showed better characteristics than those of commercial chips. The MMIC chip developed in domestic was applied to the transmitter and receiver through W-band waveguide low loss transition structure design and impedance matching to verify the performance after the fabrication is 9.17 dB, which is close to the analysis result. As a result, it is judged that the transceiver can be applied to the small radar sensor better than the MMIC chip purchased overseas.
In order to elucidate the effect of alkali promoter on chemisorption of carbon monoxide on silica supported transition metal catalysts we have investigated the infrared spectra for carbon monoxide chemisorbed on silica supported nickel with and without potassium coating within the frequency range of 1800 ~ 2100cm$^{-1}$ at various nickel concentrations and CO pressures. For the system without potassium coating the IR band intensities are found to greatly depend on the nickel conwgfra concentration although the band positions are scarcely affected. The band positions are nearly coincident with those reported by other people, but we have clarified that the 2057cm$^{-1}$ band arises from Ni(CO)$_4$ molecules physisorbed on silicagel. Besides this, the effect of temperature on CO chemisorption has also been investigated. On coating with potassium we have found that all the bands observed for the system without potassium coating suffer red shifts by 2 ~ 10cm$^{-1}$ and the formation of Ni(CO)$_4$ is inhibited. Furthermore, we have recognized that on the nickel surface with potassium coating a disproportionation may occur to yield carbon dioxide molecules.
