  • This paper deals with the analysis of the PC communication service system performance which will be installed as a gateway between PSTN and PSDN. Firstly, we classify the data traffic pattern into interactive, conversational, and file transfer type from the actual statistics. Secondly, we model the system structure as a closed queueing network model with multiservers and multiple customer classes and derive the analytic method to be able to measure the system performance using Mean Value Analysis. Finally, the simulation results indicate that the analytic method obtained is a good approximation method to measure the system performance of the PC communication service system as a gateway between PSTN and PSDN.

  • Noise map is a presentation of existing data or predicted noise situation in terms of noise indicator. However, it has shortcoming for assessing the number of people exposed, or the number of dwellings affected to any relevant limit values of noise level in certain areas. In this study, so called over-ride value noise mapping is Proposed to make up for the shortcoming by using over-ride function of object-oriented programming and it is to show the guard of the area where it is satisfied the standard of option, or it is not satisfactory. Over-ride value noise map data is combined with topography layer, population and house statistics, and GIS space statistical analysis. The over-ride value noise mapping can also be applied to make the road traffic noise map, the railroad noise map, the aircraft noise map, and the industrial site noise map. This can express noise damage information more exactly.

  • We propose a Markov model of two bottleneck ECN/RED gateways experiencing a large number of TCP users. We show that, as the number of users becomes large, the queue sizes per user of the both gateways converge at steady-state to individual fixed points. Also, we derive a computational algorithm to exactly obtain the fixed points and present simulation example showing the limiting behavior of the gateway traffic.

  • The purpose of this paper is to provide a transient diffusion approximation of queue size distribution for M/G/m/N system. The M/G/m/N system can be expressed as follows. The interarrival times of customers are exponential and the service times of customers have general distribution. The system can hold at most a total of N customers (including the customers in service) and any further arriving customers will be refused entry to the system and will depart immediately without service. The queueing system with finite capacity is more practical model than queueing system with infinite capacity. For example, in the design of a computer system one of the important problems is how much capacity is required for a buffer memory. It its capacity is too little, then overflow of customers (jobs) occurs frequently in heavy traffic and the performance of system deteriorates rapidly. On the other hand, if its capacity is too large, then most buffer memories remain unused.

  • In this paper, we studied the method of path distribution in order to increase reliability of the network by reducing path congestion, solving the problems of increasing blocking statistics, and increasing the utilization of network resource. A scheme of efficient path calculation which can reduce the traffic congestion in an arbitrary link is proposed by path calculation equations considering link occupation rates. A rapid method of establishing a connection which can efficiently cope with accidental connection failure are studied.

  • This paper proposes an energy efficient adaptive relay station ON/OFF scheme with different frequency reuse factors (FRFs) to enhance the system throughput and reduce the transmission energy consumption for the transparent mode of 2-hop cellular relay networks (CRNs) based on orthogonal frequency division multiple access and time division duplex. In the proposed scheme, the base station turns on or off the relay stations (RSs) when they are overutilized and undertuilized based on the traffic density of the cell coverage, respectively. Through the simulation results, we show that the proposed scheme outperforms the conventional CRN in terms of the energy consumption with the same system throughput. Further, in order to increase the system throughput with low energy consumption, the best way is FRF 1 when the number of operating RSs is up to 4 and FRF 2 otherwise.

  • Recently, many active queue management (AQM) algorithms have been proposed to address the performance degradation. of end-to-end congestion control under tail-drop (TD) queue management at Internet routers. However, these AQM algorithms show performance improvement only for limited network environments, and are insensitive to dynamically changing network situations. In this paper, we propose an adaptive queue management algorithm, called PID-controller, that uses proportional-integral-derivative (PID) feedback control to remedy these weak-Dalles of existing AQM proposals. The PID-controller is able to detect and control congestion adaptively and proactively to dynamically changing network environments using incipient as well as current congestion indications. A simulation study over a wide range of IP traffic conditions shows that PID-controller outperforms other AQM algorithms such as Random Early Detection (RED) [3] and Proportional-Integral (PI) controller [9] in terms of queue length dynamics, packet loss rates, and link utilization.

  • According to traffic accidents-related statistics, 57.6 percent of the fatality of vehicle-to-pedestrian accident, occurred on crosswalk in rural highways. Ministry of Land, Transport and Maritime Affairs in South Korea is conceiving to reduce in the number of the fatality. This study is to reestablish the criteria of implementing lighting through field experiments and to develop an effective alternative of crosswalk lighting.
