Efficiency of Learning Modes in Educational Institutions: Traditional, Electronic, and Blended learning

  • The intent of this paper is to unveil the effectiveness of different learning environments (traditional, electronic, blended) in educational institutions through a set of dimensions: an introduction to traditional education and e-learning, the importance and objectives of e-learning, the difference between e-learning and traditional education and teachers' roles in e-learning, the challenges facing the use of e-learning. It also introduces blended learning, providing an account about its emergence, concept, importance, the difference between blended learning and e-learning, the advantages of blended learning, and the challenges confront using blended learning.

실습 수업에서 일부 치기공과 학생들의 블렌디드 러닝과 전통적인 면대면 수업 비교 연구 (A comparison of blended learning and traditional face-to-face learning for some dental technology students in practice teaching)

  • Purpose: This study aimed to verify whether blended learning is worth alternating with traditional face-to-face learning for some dental technology students in practice teaching. Methods: A total of 68 students were included in this study. They were divided into two groups to compare blended learning and traditional face-to-face learning. The experiment had been carried out over 15 weeks. The following tests were performed: test of instructional quality, test of learning satisfaction, test of perceived usefulness, and test of learning flow. The IBM SPSS software was used to analyze the data. Results: The learning satisfaction and the perceived useful of blended learning by students appeared to be higher than that of traditional face-to-face learning. However, there was no significant difference in the variables of traditional face-to-face learning and those of blended learning (p<0.05). Conclusion: Blended learning is an alternative to traditional face-to-face learning for some dental technology students in practice teaching.

협동학습이 가정과목의 학습성취도와 학습태도에 미치는 영향 (The Effect of Cooperative Learning Method on Learning Accomplishment and Attitude of Home Economics)

  • The purpose of this study is to compare and analyze on the result of learning accomplishment and attitude between two groups to certify the application possibility of the cooperative learning method in home economics education. This inquiry was investigated by two classes 95 students. of the first glade in high school a commercial girl’s high school located in Anyang city of Kyonggi province, and then classified in a cooperative learning group and a traditional learning group respectively, then the 6th lessons progressed, and the difference of results of the learning accomplishment and the learning attitude according to each group was analysed with the post tests of the learning accomplishment and the learning attitude of two groups. The results of this study are summarized as follows. (1) Three subordinate positions, which are knowledge, understanding and application field of learning accomplishment between the cooperative learning group and the traditional learning group. it highly and the traditional learning group it highly showed in comparison with the traditional learning group. (2) There are not any statistically significant difference in the attention- concentration field of learning attitude between the cooperative learning and the traditional learning groups, but the cooperative learning group in the learning method and the self learning field highly showed.

Comparison of Traditional Workloads and Deep Learning Workloads in Memory Read and Write Operations

  • With the recent advances in AI (artificial intelligence) and HPC (high-performance computing) technologies, deep learning is proliferated in various domains of the 4th industrial revolution. As the workload volume of deep learning increasingly grows, analyzing the memory reference characteristics becomes important. In this article, we analyze the memory reference traces of deep learning workloads in comparison with traditional workloads specially focusing on read and write operations. Based on our analysis, we observe some unique characteristics of deep learning memory references that are quite different from traditional workloads. First, when comparing instruction and data references, instruction reference accounts for a little portion in deep learning workloads. Second, when comparing read and write, write reference accounts for a majority of memory references, which is also different from traditional workloads. Third, although write references are dominant, it exhibits low reference skewness compared to traditional workloads. Specifically, the skew factor of write references is small compared to traditional workloads. We expect that the analysis performed in this article will be helpful in efficiently designing memory management systems for deep learning workloads.

초등학교 컴퓨터 교육을 위한 상황학습과 전통적학습의 비교 분석 (A Comparative Study of the Situated Learning Model and the Traditional Learning Model for Computer Education in the Elementary School)

  • 본 연구의 목적은 컴퓨터 교육을 실시할 수 있는 상황학습 모형을 정립하고, 상황학습 및 전통적학습이 워드프로세서 학습 시간의 학습태도와 컴퓨터 학습능력 향상에 미치는 효과를 검증하는 것이다. 본 연구의 결과를 요약하면 다음과 같다. 먼저, 상황학습 및 전통적학습이 워드프로세서 시간의 학습태도에 미치는 효과에 대해서 이해도 흥미도 성취도 집중도 적용도 자발성의 6개 영역에서 살펴보았다. 그 결과, 이해도 면에서는 전통적학습이 상황학습보다 더 나은 효과를 나타내었고, 나머지 5개 면에서는 상황학습이 우세한 결과를 보였다. 다음으로, 상황학습 및 전통적학습이 학습자의 컴퓨터 학습능력 향상에 미치는 효과에 대해서 살펴보았다. 그 결과 전통적학습이 상황학습보다 근소한 차이로 우위를 보였다. 하지만, 컴퓨터 학습에 대한 아동들의 학습태도면에서 상당부분 상황학습이 전통적학습 보다 우세했다는 점은 연구의 큰 성과이자 의미를 찾아볼 수 있는 대목이라고 할 수 있다.

  • The purpose of this study is to investigate the effects of cooperative learning method on student achievement and attitude in Home Economics. and that what sort of effectiveness be existed between the two groups. Homogeneous & Heterogeneous one in achievement. A junior middle school in Kwangju was served for the study. Setting two groups: One is for cooperative learning and other for traditional learning. Two classes were provided with cooperative learning method. while one class with traditional learning method. Two hours of a week were devoted for the experiment. and it was also planned to be lasted six weeks from the third of June. 1998. until the 13th of July. 1998. The results are as follows: 1) Student achievement from cooperative learning method showed a little higher than those from traditional learning method. 2) Cooperative learning method was more effective than traditional learning method. mental attitude toward school. lessons and teachers were more higher than those the traditional learning method. 3) The group of Heterogeneous members was higher than the group of Homogeneous members in their student achievement. 4) It is noticeable that two groups under cooperative learning method. however showed some difference when each of them is placed in different organization. The group of Heterogeneous members was more affirmative attitude toward school. lessons and teachers than the one Homogeneous members.

Students' Self-Regulated Learning Strategies in Traditional and Non-Traditional Classroom: A Comparative Study

  • This study used a posttest control group design and to find out differences between students' self-regulated learning strategies in traditional and non-traditional classroom. To this end, 131 first year university students within the experimental and control groups took part in the study. While ICT-based approach was used as the main medium of instruction in the experimental group, in the control group the paper-based traditional method was used. A survey adapted from Davaanyam [Davaanyam, T. (2013). The structural relationships among Mongolian students' attitudes toward mathematics, motivational beliefs, self-regulated learning strategies, and mathematics achievement. Ph. D. Dissertation. Jeonju, Jeonbuk, Korea: Chonbuk National Unversity.] was used to gather the data. The results of the study indicated a significant difference between the control and experimental groups in regard with their self-regulated learning. That is to say, the experimental group taught through ICT tools acquired higher levels of self-regulation as compared with the control group instructed through the traditional teaching method.

  • 한국 전통춤은 인류의 문화적 자산으로 문화적 활용가치를 가지고 있지만 전수희망자의 부족과 대중적인 무관심으로 소멸의 위기에 처해 있다. 네트워크 기술과 영상매체 기술을 활용한 전통춤의 이러닝(E-Learning)은 위에서 제기한 문제점들을 해결하기 위한 방법이 될 수 있다. 이 연구는 전통춤 교육에 활용될 수 있는 이러닝 교육과정 및 실시간 이러닝 교육시스템들을 제안하였다. 시스템들은 일반인을 대상으로 HCI(Human Computer Interaction) 사용자 평가법에 따라 비교평가하고 피드백 및 교육경험 인터뷰를 실시하였다. 본 연구는 전통춤의 실시간 이러닝 교육시스템을 제안함으로써 공간적 제약을 극복하고 새로운 매체 경험을 통해 무형문화재로서 전통춤을 전승, 보급하는데 기여할 수 있다.

Quality Indicators of ICT-Related Support for Blended-Learning in Traditional Universities

  • Campus-based universities have provided face-to-face instruction traditionally. But recently, it is becoming a trend that they provide blended learning which combines e-learning and f2f instruction. Therefore, traditional university has been installing the ICT related convenience for the faculty and students to use easily to their classes. The purpose of this study is to develop quality indicators of ICT-related support for proper blended learning in traditional campus-based universities. This indicators are used for measuring the quality of ICT-related services at university level for quality education. To this end, first, we reviewed literature about quality indicators of university evaluation and e-learning. Second,we did case study. We selected and analyzed one university for a case, And we identified what elements are perceived important to faculty for more efficient use of technology to their class. Third, we summarized all this data and established the quality indicators framework of ICT-related components for blended learning in campus-based universities. Then, these indicators were revised after the expert evaluation. And then 10 experts and practitioners scored importance rating. Finally, we sum them up to 17 indicators and 48 sub-indicators in three phases (input, process, output). Among them, e-learning related organization or body, usability of Learning Management System, and quality assessment system got the highest scores. These indicators are supposed to contribute to measure the quality of ICT-related environment for blended learning and to provide informations about what is required for efficient blended learning in the campus-based universities.

  • The purpose of this study was to suggest instructional strategies applicable to Blended e-Learning. After examining how traditional universities utilized e-learning, it is attempted to have an interview with three working-level people and seven instructors, who widely applied e-learning to their classes. As a result, it is found that the instructors had some wrong understanding of e-learning, and their wrong perception was rooted in their lack of experience of providing e-learning and their reliance on fragmentary, superficial information. It deterred them from putting e-learning into active practice. Besides, it's additionally attempted to describe how blended e-learning could respectively be applied to different types of lectures, how to improve its social presence and how it could be used for evaluation
