  • NTRU cryptosystem has been suggested for protecting wireless body area networks, which is secure in the sense of traditional cryptanalysis. In this paper, we fulfill the first power analysis attack on the ultra-low-power environment of wireless body area networks. Specifically, two practical differential power analyses on NTRU algorithm are proposed, which can attack the existing countermeasures of NTRU. Accordingly, we suggest three countermeasures against our attacks. Meanwhile, practical experiments show that although the attacks in this paper are efficient, our countermeasures can resist them effectively.

  • We consider quantization optimized for distributed estimation, where a set of sensors at different sites collect measurements on the parameter of interest, quantize them, and transmit the quantized data to a fusion node, which then estimates the parameter. Here, we propose an iterative quantizer design algorithm with a weighted distance rule that allows us to reduce a system-wide metric such as the estimation error by constructing quantization partitions with their optimal weights. We show that the search for the weights, the most expensive computational step in the algorithm, can be conducted in a sequential manner without deviating from convergence, leading to a significant reduction in design complexity. Our experments demonstrate that the proposed algorithm achieves improved performance over traditional quantizer designs. The benefit of the proposed technique is further illustrated by the experiments providing similar estimation performance with much lower complexity as compared to the recently published novel algorithms.

  • This study investigates the non-traditional manufacturing process of dry wire electrical discharge machining (EDM) in which liquid dielectric is replaced by a gaseous medium. Wire EDM experiments of thin workpieces were conducted both in wet and dry EDM conditions to examine the effects of spark cycle (T), spark on-time ($T_{on}$), thickness of work pieces, and work material on machining performance. The material removal rate (MRR) in the dry wire EDM case was much lower than that in the wet wire EDM case. In addition, the thickness of workpiece and work-material were found to be critical factors influencing the MRR for dry EDM process. The relative ratios of spark, arc and short circuit were also calculated and compared to examine the effectiveness of processes of dry and wet wire EDM.

  • EPS(Electric Power Steering) systems have many advantages over traditional hydraulic power steering systems in space efficiency engine efficiency and environmental compatibility. In this paper an EPS system control logic using a torque map is proposed. The main function of the EPS system is to reduce the steering torque exerted by a driver by assist of an electric motor. Vehcile speed steering torque and steering wheel angle are measured and fed back to the EPS control system where appropriate assist torque is generated to assist the operator's steering effort. Another capability of the EPS system for easy adaptation to different steering feels via simple tuning is demonstrated by the experiments. It will be also verified that the EPS system can also improve damping and return performance of the steering wheel by control of the assist motor.

  • Burrs, created when metals deform plastically, are by-products of most machining processes. The increasing requirements of precision and reliability in manufacturing processes have led to the development of systems for automated deburring. In this paper the motivations and requirements for automated robotic deburring are discussed. Also, the feasibility of automating the deburring process using fuzzy logic controller is investigated. In implementing the fuzzy logic controller, particular attention is paid to the acoustic emission sensing for the characterization and feedback control of the burr removal process. The results of the experiments reveal the rule based control scheme based on fuzzy logics can be a good alternative to traditional control schemes.

  • This study proposes a genetic algorithm using Pr(equation omitted)fer number for the traveling salesman problem(PNGATSP). Nearest neighbor nodes are mixed with randomly selected nodes at the stage of generating initial solutions. Proposed PNGATSP adopts a few ideas which are different from traditional genetic algorithms. For instance, an exponential fitness function and elitism are used and Pr(equation omitted)fer number is used for encoding TSP. Genetic operators are selected by experiments, which make a good solution among four combinations of conventional genetic operators and new genetic operators. For respective combinations, robust set of parameters is determined by the experimental designing approach. The feature of Pr(equation omitted)fer number code for TSP and the search power of GA using Pr(equation omitted)fer number is analysed. The best is a combination of OX(order crossover) and swap, which is superior to the other experimented combinations of genetic operators by 1.0%∼12.8% deviation.

  • The aim of this study was comparative analysis of sediment-induced erosion on optimized design and traditional design of Francis runner blade. The analysis was conducted through laboratory experiments in a test rig called Rotating Disc Apparatus. The results showed that the extent of erosion was significantly less in the optimized design when compared based on the material loss. It was observed that the optimized design could reduce sediment erosion by about 14.4% if it was used in place of the reference design for entire duration of the experiment. Based on the observations and results obtained, it has been concluded that the optimization of hydraulic design of blade profile of Francis runner can significantly reduce the effect of sediment-induced erosion.

  • A new MCMC method for optimization is presented in this paper, which is called the scanline block Gibbs sampler. Due to its slow convergence speed, traditional Markov chain Monte Carlo (MCMC) is not widely used. In contrast to the conventional MCMC method, it is more convenient to parallelize the scanline block Gibbs sampler. Since The main part of the scanline block Gibbs sampler is to calculate message between each edge, in order to accelerate the calculation of messages passing in scanline sampler, it is parallelized in GPU. It is proved that the implementation on GPU is faster than on CPU based on the experiments on the OpenGM2 benchmark.

  • Nano fountain-pen is a novel device to make the constant patterning in micro process using new designed probe. Fountain-pen nanolithography (FPN) is applied for constant supply of liquid in conjunction of patterns and surface variation in the micro process. In this study, nuo fountain-pen is composed with reservoir, micro channels, tip and scondary chamber. Instead of traditional method only using capillary force, liquid can be definitely and exactly injected with membrane pumping by the repulse force of tip. It is dfficult to perform experiments in the micro range so that we carried out a numerical analysis for internal flow, using a commercial code, FlUENT, The velocity, pressure and flow rate are obtained under laminar, unsteady, three-dimensional incompressible flow with no-slip condition, and results are graphically described.
