  • In this study, we applied terahertz imaging technology to three Korean modern oil paintings ('Boy,' 'Girl,' and 'Hyehwadong Landscape'); investigated the types of inner layer information in the pictures that can be extracted with terahertz imaging technology; and analyzed the conditions for extracting them. The biggest problem in the terahertz imaging analysis we encountered was the image distortion caused by the change of the distance between the target surface and the terahertz detector, depending on the surface curvature of the target paintings. We then developed a 'working distance maintaining device' to solve this problem. As a result, the terahertz imaging technique was used to identify the base material characteristics and any patterns of damage inside, and presented the optimal conditions for identifying each characteristic. In addition, it was useful to employ the terahertz frequency-division image to check the characteristics of the background materials. To confirm coloring techniques such as brush strokes, it is effective to compare the maximum reflection peak image with the cross-section image; and to detect damage information inside the paintings that cannot be observed on the surface, to compare the cross-section image with the frequency-division image. On the other hand, according to the terahertz imaging analysis of the oil paintings, the internal structural damage marks of 'Boy' and 'Girl' were confirmed, and the artist's painting style was confirmed in 'Hyehwadong Landscape.' The above results are expected to be useful for the analysis and diagnosis of Korean modern oil paintings for their preservation.

  • Korean wave 3.0 is focused on 'K-Culture' which includes traditional culture, cultural art as well as existing culture contents as a keyword. It considers everything about Korean culture as materials of Korean wave culture contents. Since Korean wave culture contents reflect contemporary social aspect, it needs to preserve those contents as archives and records which have the important value of evidence. With this social environment, this study aims to implement RMS based on AtoM that manages various kinds of Korean wave culture contents through analysis of management situation of those materials. Recently, it is in progress individually to manage them through organizations dealing with korean cultures such as K-Pop, K-Food, K-Movie. However, it has problems in accumulating information and reproducing high quality contents because of lack of coordination among organizations. To solve the problems, this study proposed RMS based on open source software Access to Memory(AtoM) for managing and recording Korean wave culture contents. AtoM provides various functions for managing records and archives such as accumulation, classification, description and browsing. Furthermore AtoM is for free as open source software and easy to implement and use. Thus, this study implemented RMS based on AtoM to methodically manage korean wave culture contents by functional requirements of RMS. Also, this study considered contents relating K-Food as an object to collect, classify, and describe. To describe it, this study selected ISAD(G) standard.

  • This study is about the historical records of anchovy which has fluent nutritions as well as the representative side dish in Korean food culture and life. The formal first record about anchovy is in the Uhaeieobo written by Damjeung in 1803. Another important historical record about anchovy are Hyeonsaneobo(Jasaneobo) written by Jeong Yak-jeon in 1814, and Eomyeonggo(Fish name list) of Nanhoeomogji written by Seo Yu-gu in 1820. The anchovies were used for food in Korea even before the Chosun Dynasty, but they were not noticed by people. Because at that time, fishing tools and instruments such as nets were not developed enough to raise enough catches and food processing technology were not developed. Since then, in the Japanese colonial era, it has been actively developing agricultural fertilizers using anchovies. In addition, the processing technology that can be used as an edible food using anchovy has been rapidly developed. Now, the anchovy industry has very important position in Korea's fisheries industry. Among them, 'Jukbangryum anchovy' catching bamboo weir tool which has been existed for over five hundred years in Namhae province, not only creates great high economic value, but also has cultural value. Therefore, the historical literature study on anchovy can be used as an invaluable resource not only for the study of fishery from an industrial point of view, but also for the registration of world cultural heritage and GIAHS (Globally Important Agricultural Heritage System) of 'Jukbangryum' which is traditional fishery catching instrument in Korea.

  • This thesis is a study on the rhythm of the funeri dance among the East Coast Guts. The jangdans used in the East Coast Gut are used for dance, samurai, and play scenes. In addition, it is a means for the shaman to perform the gut smoothly, and it also includes a role to represent humans and gods. In particular, the funeri jangdan has been performed in the preparatory stage before worshiping the god, prior to the ceremony of worshiping the god. Therefore, it can be said that it is a meaningful jangdan with a procedure for preparing to welcome the god and performing rituals and bows. In fact, if you are constrained by time while performing a gut, long jangdans respond with fast jangdans and sing samurai. On the other hand, the funeri jangdan is played without omission without any special measures. However, there are cases where one of Chapter 1 or Chapter 2 is omitted for circumstances, or only Chapter 3 is played. In other words, the verse of chapter 3 must be played. Judging from this aspect, it can be confirmed that the functional and ceremonial part of this jangdan is important to the progress of the funery jangdan. Therefore, if the position and function of the jangdan are recognized and the work is created through this study, its artistry and tradition will be further developed, and it is thought that it can be a stepping stone to increase the value of traditional art.

  • This study began with a reflection and review of looking back on the anti-Japanese movement of Jeju Haenyeo. The Jeju Haenyeo Anti-Japanese Movement is the largest women's solidarity movement in Korea, with the struggle for the right to survive expanding to the anti-Japanese movement. Kang Kwan-Soon of young intellectuals in Jeju carried out an enlightenment campaign and made the unfair lives of Haenyeo into song lyrics to promote the anti-Japanese consciousness. 'Song of Haenyeo' has been excluded from the record for reasons of using Japanese melodies of 'Tokyo March', not traditional folk songs, and the socialist forces behind it. The study of Jeju Haenyeo is an important basic reference for the study of the anti-Japanese movement that successfully led the Jeju Haenyeo's human rights struggle. Oral tradition songs are the most fundamental art form. Through this research to revive the spirit of the anti-Japanese movement and remember the value of their sacrifices and contributions through comparative of the two songs.

  • Steel pile foundations are widely used for offshore constructions due to their high bearing capacity and efficiency. Typically, offshore structures that have reached the end of their design life are required to be demolished. However, pile foundations are often left on site due to technical and economic limitations. The pile left on the site not only pollutes the environment, but can also cause obstacles for the construction of new structures. Therefore, research is required to completely eliminate these foundations at the site. In this study, a new type of double-wall pile foundation that can drastically reduce the pull-out load was conceptually proposed, and a series of model tests were performed to validate the performance of the double-wall pile foundation. The installation and extraction of the double-wall pile were simulated in dry sand in the model test, and the measured up-lift load was compared to that of the conventional pile. According to the result, the maximum up-lift load induced by the decommissioning of the double-wall pile was reduced by 45% when compared to the traditional pile in dense sand. This study verified the mechanism for reducing the up-lift load of the double-wall foundation and confirmed the possibility of completely decommissioning a pile that has reached the end of its nominal service life.

  • Sentinel-2 can be used as proxy data for the Korean Compact Advanced Satellite 500-4 (CAS500-4), also known as Agriculture and Forestry Satellite, in terms of spectral wavelengths and spatial resolution. This letter examined cloud detection for later use in the CAS500-4 based on deep learning technologies. DeepLabV3+, a traditional Convolutional Neural Network (CNN) model, and Shifted Windows (Swin) Transformer, a state-of-the-art (SOTA) Transformer model, were compared using 22,728 images provided by Radiant Earth Foundation (REF). Swin Transformer showed a better performance with a precision of 0.886 and a recall of 0.875, which is a balanced result, unbiased between over- and under-estimation. Deep learning-based cloud detection is expected to be a future operational module for CAS500-4 through optimization for the Korean Peninsula.

  • The purpose of this study is to reveal the significance of musicals and find a way to utilize them in Korean language culture classes for foreigners. Korean language education aims to improve communication skills, and cultural education is necessary to help students understand not only the language but also the social background and context of the language. Accordingly, the author of this study has put together a lesson plan for Korean culture incorporating musicals, a topic that has been heretofore disregarded in Korean language education. Musicals are an appealing art medium for Korean language learners, as they provide striking visuals centered around distinct narrative structures and music. The musical "Swag Age: Shout out Joseon!," which this study focuses on, provides particularly suitable content, as it deals with social issues that are relevant even in contemporary Korean society and includes sijo (poetry), which can be used to teach traditional Korean literature. Based on the above characteristics, the author of this study outlines a Korean culture lesson plan teaching sijo through the musical "Swag Age: Shout out Joseon!" The class will be for learners of intermediate level and above, and consists of 4 sessions: 1) Understanding the overall plot of the musical, 2) Learning about Korean sijo, 3) Writing sijo based on your own life, and 4) Presenting your own sijo. This culture class is significant in that it goes beyond simply learning about sijo and enables students to internalize the meaning of and actively enjoy sijo by writing their own versions. In addition, it is expected to be a compelling class that, on top of its educational value, introduces and allows students to experience a wider range of Korean popular culture by adding the musical genre to the common repertoire of movies, dramas, plays, and pop songs often covered in Korean culture classes.

  • Through scientific analysis, this study identified the material characteristics of metal foil decorating the border line and knotting of the National Folklore Cultural Heritage 'Pouch for the Sutra Embroidered with a Sun and Moon Design'. Through Scanning Electron Microscope-Energy Dispersive Spectroscopy results, it was estimated that silver (Ag) and sulfur (S) were present in the metal foil, and silver leaf was also attached to the medium. S may discolor Ag from yellow to black depending on its concsentration and contact time. Yellow color could not be identified in metal foil at present. But there existed an example of the preparation of a gold-colored flat silver thread; therefore, further research is needed to estimate the original color. The lamella was reddish brown on the back. Aluminum, silicon, and iron were also detected and were the main components found in red soil. This is believed to be the red adhesive in traditional flat gold thread and is considered to be an adhesive-related component of the metal foil. From the gas chromatography mass spectrometry results, the adhesive component was confirmed to be animal glue.

  • This thesis is a study on the creation of characters of "personality actors and character actors" among the concepts of "star persona" of S. Prince. This study selected 7 representative films of Jung Woo-sung, a representative personality actor in the Korean film industry, and analyzed how 'Jung Woo-sung-character' is embodied in the film as a character component suggested by R. Dyer. In the traditional sense, the actor's acting has been highly valued for transformation and impersonation in character creation, but discussing the method of creating a character focusing only on the actor's acting in a movie acting implemented in combination with advanced technology I don't think it's suitable for movie acting research. Theorists such as R.Dyer and Edgar Morin, who studied film actors and stars, also emphasize that 'movie actors are different from theater actors' (by the film medium). Therefore, in this thesis, a detailed analysis of the acting of a personality actor was avoided. As Morin pointed out that the character in the movie can be implemented through the actor's image and type, not playing the type of role. I tried to propose the significance of this character creation method of the personality actor by analyzing actor Jung Woo-sung and his character.
