For the purpose of ground improvement by means of soil flushing systems. Incorporated technique with prefabricated vertical drains have been used for dewatering from fine-grained soils. The laboratory model tests were performed by using the flushing tracer solutions for silty soils and recorded the tracer concentration changes with the elapsed time and flow rates. A mathematical model for prediction of contaminant transport using the PVD technology has been developed. The clean-up times for the predictions on both soil condition indicate more of a sensitivity to the dispersivity parameter than to the extracted flow rate and vertical velocity parameters. Based on the results of the analyses, numerical analysis indicate that the most important factor to the in-situ soil remediation in prefabricated vertical drain system is the effective diameter of contaminated soil.

The dissolution process of NAPLs is significantly important in predicting the transport and/or fate of the contaminants and designing remedial systems. In this research, experimental observations on dissolution of TCE pool under various hydrodynamic conditions are done using an aquifer model. Hydrodynamic parameters such as linear pore velocity and dispersion coefficient are estimated from the results of preliminary tracer tests using bromide as conservative tracer before doing the TCE dissolution experiments. It is found that hydrodynamic parameters are distinctly affected by the clay lens imbeded in the aquifer model. Nonequilibrium and transient dissolution rates are observed from the results of TCE dissolution experiments.

From the results of tracer test for the existing clearwell in Y water treatment plant, $T_{10}$ and T10/T were calculated as 150 min and 0.24, respectively. Therefore it required the modification schemes for improving hydraulic efficiency, surrogated by $T_{10}$ and $T_{10}$/T, and disinfection performance. In this study, using transient CFD(Computational Fluid Dynamics) simulation technique, tracer tests on dynamic condition for the suggested schemes were simulated. From the results of simulation, it was revealed that 8~6 baffles are necessary to guarantee the disinfection ability in the existing clearwell. Also, installing orifice baffle in the vicinity of inlet could increase plug flow fraction within clearwell.
As a series of studies about natural ventilation driven by wind in basement parking lots of apartment, the influence of opening size and surrounding buildings on ventilation rate was analyzed. Natural ventilation in underground parking lots almost rely on wind than temperature difference. To investigate natural ventilation driven by wind, wind tunnel tests by using scale model and tracer gas method were conducted. $CO_2$-gas concentration was measured, natural ventilation rates were calculated. The experimental results showed that the natural ventilation rate is more reliable to wind direction and surrounding building than opening size and distance between buildings. It was verified that surrounding buildings play a principal role in increasing air flow rate by accelerating wind speed, and growing turbulence intensity. And it showed that ventilation performance is able to be increased by oblique wind to entrance ramp than head on wind in underground parking lots with surrounding buildings.

Partitioning tracer method is a useful tool to characterize large domains of the aquifers contaminated with light nonaqueous phase liquids (LNAPLs). Sorption of the partitioning tracers to the organic matter content of soil can potentially influence the efficacy of partitioning tracer method. LNAPL-water partitioning coefficients of tracers ($K_{nw}$), measured by static method, showed linear relationship. Sorption isotherm tests were conducted to evaluate the sorption capacity of the soils packed in the columns and the results were appropriately represented by Freundlich sorption isotherm. The sorption of tracers proportionally increased with the increase of the organic matter content of the soil. Laboratory experiments were conducted in four columns each packed with soils of different organic matter contents to determine the potential interference effects of sorption to soil organic matter content and correction factors for the errors in estimation of LNAPLs by partitioning tracer method. Though there were no contaminants added, breakthrough curves from columns packed with mixture of Jumunjin standard sand and organic matter showed separation of tracers. Columns were then contaminated to residual saturation with kerosene and breakthrough curves were obtained. The results show that sorption of tracers to soil organic matter leads to an increase in the retardation factor (R) and hence, to an overestimation of the saturation of LNAPLs. A relation between the percentage of organic matter content and the corresponding percentage error in the estimation of NAPLs has been developed.
Velocity gradient, G, a measure of the average velocity gradient in the fluid has been applied for complete mixing of chemicals in mechanical mixing devices. G values were calculated by the power input transferred to fluid in turbulent and transient range. Chemical reactions occur so fast that total mass transfer time required for even distribution of the chemicals determine the overall reaction time. The total mass transfer time is composed of the time for complete mixing through the reactor and for diffusion of the chemicals into the eddy. Complete mixing time was calculated by CFD (computer fluid dynamics) and evaluated by tracer tests in 2 liter jars at different rotating speeds. Turbulent range, Reynolds number above 10,000 in regular 2 liter jars occurred at revolution speed above 100 rpm (revolution per minute), while laminar range occurred at revolution speed below 10 rpm. A typical range of rotating speed used in jar tests for water and wastewater treatment was between 10 and 300 rpm, which covered both transient and turbulent range. G values supplied from a commercial jar test apparatus showed big difference from those calculated with power number specially in turbulent range. Diffusion time through eddy decreased 1.5 power-law of rotating speed. Complete mixing time determined by pumping number decreased increases in rotating speed. Total mass transfer time, finally, decreases as rotating speed increases, and it becomes 1 sec at rotating speed of 1,000 rpm. Complete mixing times evaluated from tracer tests showed higher than those calculated by power number at higher rotating speed. Complete mixing times, however, calculated by CFD showed similar to those of experimentally evaluated ones.

After the final closure of sea dyke, seepage behaviour of embankment is highly changed by variation of water head different between tide wave and controlled water level at fresh lake. Especially, the seepage behaviour of bottom protection layer of final closure section is more important factor for structural and functional stability of sea dyke, because of the bottom protection layer of final closure section is penetrated sea side to fresh lake. Even though bottom protection layer was filled with dredged fine sand, it has a high permeability. In this paper, mainly described about the seepage velocity and borehole image of bottom protection layer filled with dredged sand after final closure. Various in-situ tests such as BIPS (Borehole Image Processing System) and ABI (Acoustic Borehole Imager) survey, wave velocity measuring, and color tracer survey were conducted to evaluate the seepage behavior of bottom protection layer. Based on the in-situ tests, the bottom protection layer of final closure section was almost filled with dredged sand which is slightly coarse grain sand and there have sea water flow by water head different between tide wave and controlled water level at fresh lake. Also, comply with tracer survey results, the sea water flow path was not exist or generated in the bottom protection layer. However, because of this result not only short term survey but also just one test borehole survey results, additional long term and other borehole tests are needed.
With regard to oversea mineral resources development, recent trend has been changed from a simple capital investment to a direct development of the resources. In relation to the stability of a slope in large open-pit coal mine, groundwater system was investigated and the validity of horizontal drainage hole was evaluated in Pasir coal mine, Indonesia. In this work, various field tests were carried out for a characterization of groundwater system, which included in-situ permeability measurement, tracer test and monitoring of groundwater levels. Especially, the influence of SM river on the characteristics of the groundwater flow system was mainly inspected. For the permeability measurement, Guelph permeameter was employed, and was found that sandstone was more permeable than mudstone and coal seam. From a comparison of lithological structure and the results of groundwater level monitoring, sandstone and thin coal seam with fractures were found to be a main channel for groundwater flow. In the results of tracer tests, the effect of SM river on the groundwater system depends on the geological structure of its base. To identify the effect of horizontal drainage holes, 2-D groundwater modeling was performed. Four different cases were tested, which are different from the length of drainage hole and the existence of pond on top of the slope. To enhance the drainage effect and slope stability, the drainage hole should be drilled to the depth of coal seam layer, which provides a main pathway of groundwater flow and embedded by sandstone. For this purpose, correct identification of surrounding geology should be preceded.
Convergent flow tracer test for 2 m (IW-1 well) and 5 m (IW-2 well) of test scale was conducted at the alluvial aquifer with high permeability and storativity. Pumping rate for convergent flow tracer test were $2,500m^3/day$, and the chloride tracer of 5 kg was instantaneously injected into IW-1 and IW-2 wells. Differences of first arrival time and peak concentration were analyzed by using the concentration breakthrough curves of chloride. Recovered chloride mass were analyzed by recovered cumulative mass curves. And, increment and decrement for chloride concentration were analyzed through chloride concentration versus recovered cumulative mass ratio graphs. Also, increment and decrement ratios of chloride concentration were estimated through linear regression analyses for increment and decrement intervals of chloride concentration. Longitudinal dispersivities were estimated by quot;Converging Radial Flow With Instantaneous Injectionquot; method using CATTI code. Longitudinal dispersivities estimated by CATTI code were 0.4152 m between pumping well and IW-1 well, and 3.2665 m between pumping well and IW-2 well. Longitudinal dispersivity was increased according to far distance from the pumping well. The longitudinal dispersivity according to distance were estimated as 0.21 between pumping well and IW-1 well, and 0.65 between pumping well and IW-2 well.
