Computer-Aided Synthesis of Multiple-Output TANT Networks (컴퓨터에 의한 다출력 TANT 회로망의 구성)

  • A new algorithm is presented from minimiEing the gates cost and gate inputs cost for the multiple-output TANT networks. In this algorithm, multiple-output map is organized and multiple-output function is constructed by using combination of minterms in order of the number of head variables. Systematic combination is made by PSA algorithm, and so the total design procedure is simplified.

  • In this paper, we proposed the novel hybrid multi-level inverter using combination of the output voltage of transformers to reduce the THD(Total Harmonic Distortion) and improve the waveform of output voltage. The proposed multi-level inverter used the output of transformer which is 1times, 2times, 4times of input of the transformers. So we increased the output voltage from the reduce the number of switching component and transformer. Also, we tested the proposed prototype 15-level inverter to clarify the proposed electric circuit and reasonableness of control signal for the proposed multi -level PWM inverter.

  • In this paper, we designed and fabricated an input-output coupler system using two or three volume gratings at 632.8nm wavelength. The additional third grating is added at the output coupler to enhance the overall efficiency. The experimental results show that the total system throughput reaches 63% with two-grating and 75% with three-grating input-output coupler. We also present a design method to obtain the desired output power ratio between the gratings.

  • Current Source(CS) PWM converter is appropriate for the magnet power supply system which requests high power and high precision current control. Input and output filters should be installed to eliminate the current or voltage harmonics caused by the PWM switching for the CS PWM converter. But the input/output filters limit the output DC current range and may destroy the system with filter resonance, and make the system equation more complicated. In this paper, systematic and simple filter design method which considers not only the harmonic attenuation but also the total system good transfer function characteristics in the dc filter. Performance Improvement of Flashlamp-Pumped Ti: sapphire Laser

  • Experimental study is performed on flashlamp-pumped Ti: sapphire lasers with single, double, and four-partial-ellipse-pump cavities aiming at improving the performance of the lasers. The output energy of 604 mJ per pulse with a width of 25 $\mu$s at a total laser efficiency of 0.13% is achieved in the laser pumped by a light pulse of 45$\mu$s without a fluorescent converter The laser output energy versus its Ti: sappy ire rod length, pumping-light pulse duration, and electrical input energy are discussed with or without using a fluorescent converter. The result shows that much more output energy is obtained il a longer Ti: sapphire-rod laser pumped by a shorter light pulse when its output coupler has an optimized transmittance. In addition, an enhancement of output energy by a factor of 7 is achieved. in the laser using a fluorescent converter LD490.

  • In recent years, the multilevel converters have been given more attention due to their modularity, reliability, failure management and multi stepped output waveform with less total harmonic distortion. This paper presents a novel symmetric multilevel inverter topology with reduced switching components to generate a high quality stepped sinusoidal voltage waveform. The series and parallel combinations of switches in the proposed topology reduce the total number of conducting switches in each level of output voltages. In addition, a comparison between the proposed topology with another topology from the literature is presented. To verify the proposed topology, the computer based simulation model is developed using MATLAB/Simulink and experimentally with a prototype model results are then compared.

  • The power output behavior of the binary cycle composed of two Carnot cycles is analyzed with considering heat transfer processes, in which the finitely constant temperature differences between heat sources and working fluids exists. The power output has the maximum value as an extremum for cycle temperatures and capacities of heat exchangers. In the internally reversible cycle, the power output is independent of the cycle temperature in the intermediate heat exchanger. In this case when the total capacities of heat exchangers are given, three heat exchangers have the same capacities at the maximum power output condition. In addition, when the cycle is not extremum for cycle temperatures and capacities of heat exchangers. At the maximum power output condition, the capacity of heat exchanger at the cold side is slightly more than the hot side as the cycle effectiveness decreases.

  • PV Power Conditioning System (PCS) must have high conversion and low cost. Generally, PV PCS uses either a single converter or multilevel module integrated converter (MIC). Each of these approaches has both advantage and disadvantage. For a high conversion efficiency and low cost of PV module, this paper proposes series connection of module integrated DC-DC converter's output with PV panel. Output voltage of PV panel is connected to the output capacitor of flyback converter. Thus, converter's output voltage is added to the output voltage of PV panel. Isolated DC-DC converter generates only the difference voltage between the PV panel voltage and the required total output voltage. This method reduces power level of DC-DC converter and enhances the energy conversion efficiency compared with conventional DC-DC converter.

The Economic Impact of the Smart Grid Industry by using Input-Output Analysis (산업연관분석을 활용한 스마트그리드산업의 경제적 파급효과)

  • With the expanding concept of Smart Grid, it is widely used by mixing with various industries, and therefore the potential and value of Smart Grid should be verified and evaluated. To this end, this study is conducted to look at industrial fields that can be expanded by mixing with Smart Grid, and based on it, draw an economic ripple effect of the Smart Grid industry. To grasp the spread direction of the Smart Grid industry, Our study focused on Smart Grid participants and new businesses that can be derived. Through this, energy, construction, home appliances, and automobile industries are selected as convergence businesses. Our study estimated an economic effect by drawing generation rates from input-output tables that applies the selected industry fields and Korean projections. According to the result, effect on total production inducement will be about 77 trillion won, effect on total value added inducement will be about 24 trillion won, and effect on total employment inducement will be about 31 trillion won. Through this, various functions of Smart Grid and the ripple effects on national economy could be expected.

Comparison of Multilevel Inverters Employing DC Voltage Sources Scaled in the Power of Three

  • Cascaded H-bridge multilevel inverters shows a useful circuit configuration to increase the number of output voltage levels to obtain high quality output voltage. By applying the concept of the power of three to dc voltage sources, it can increase the number of output voltage levels effectively. To realize this concept, two approaches may be considered. One is to use independent dc voltage sources pre-scaled in the power of three, and the other is to use instantaneous dc voltage sources generated from a cascaded transformer, which has the secondary turn-ratios scaled in the power of three in sequence. A common feature in both approaches is to use the concept of the power of three for dc voltage sources, and a point of difference is whether it adopts a low frequency transformer or not, and where the transformer is located. According to the difference, application areas are limited and show different characteristics on THD of output voltages. We compare and analyze both approaches for their circuit configurations, voltage level generating method, THD characteristics of output voltage, efficiency, application areas, limitations, and other characteristics by experiments using 500 [W] prototypes when they generate a 27-level output voltage.
