  • Cemented soils or concrete are usually cured under moisture conditions and their strength increases with curing time. An insufficient supply of water to cemented soils can contribute to hydration process during curing, which results in the variation of bonding strength of cemented soils. In this study, by the consideration of in situ water supply conditions, cemented sand with cement ratio less than 20% was prepared by air dry, wrapped, and underwater conditions. A series of unconfined compression tests were carried out to evaluate the effect of curing conditions on the strength of cemented soils. The strength of air dry curing specimen was higher than those of wrapped cured specimen when cement ratio was less than 10%, whereas it was lower when cement ratio was greater than 10%. Regardless of cement ratio, air dry cured specimens were stronger than underwater cured specimens. A strength increase ratio with cement ratio was calculated based on the strength of 4% cemented specimen. The strength increase ratio of air dry cured specimen was lowest and that of wrapped and underwater cured ones increased by square. Strength of air dry cured specimen dropped to maximum 30% after wetting when cement ratio was low. However, regardless of cement ratio, strength of wrapped specimens dropped to an average 10% after wetting.

  • The first frame of a GOP, an I frame, is encoded in intra mode which generates a larger number of bits. In addition, the I frame is used for the inter mode encoding of the following frames. Thus the intial QP for the I frame affects the first frame as well as the following frames. In our previous work, we analyzed the number of bits for an I frame and showed that the ratio of the number of bits which maximizes the PSNR of a GOP maintains similar value regardless of GOP's. In this paper, we propose a R-Q model which can be used for the calculation of the initial QP given the amount of bits for an I frame. The proposed model is simple and adaptively modifies model parameters, so it can be applicable to the real-time application. It is shown by experimental results that the proposed model captures initial QP characteristics effectively and the proposed method for model parameters accurately estimates the real values.

  • It is necessary that Fail-Safe Seaway technology providing a continuous navigation solution though fault of navigation system is occurred in sea. This paper focus on signal processing of GPS receiver, one of receivers using the software radio technology to implement a integrated radio navigation system including satellite-based and ground-based navigation systems. It is difficult to implement the software GPS receivers using a commercial processor bemuse of the heavy computational burden for processing the GPS signals in real time. This paper proposes an efficient multi-bit GPS signal processing scheme to reduce the computational burden for processing the GPS signals in the software GPS receiver. The proposed scheme uses a compression concept of the multi-bit replica signals and patterned look-up table method to generate the correlation value between the GPS signals and the replica signals.

  • A digital watermarking technique used as a protection and certifying mechanism of copyrighted creations including music, still images, and videos in terms of finding any loss in data, reproduction and pursuit. This study suggests using a selected geometric invariant point through the whole processing procedure of an image and inserting and extracting based on the invariant point so that it will be robust in a geometric transformation attack. The introduced algorithm here is based on a watershed splitting method in order to make medical images strong against RST(Rotation Scale, Translation) transformation and other processing. It also helps to maintain the watermark in images that are compressed and stored for a period of time. This algorithm also proved that is has robustness against not only JPEG compression attack, but also RST attack and filtering attack.

  • This paper presents a new key frame extraction technique, for scene change detection, using the proposed AHIM (Accumulative Histogram Intersection Measure) from the DC image constructed by DCT DC coefficients in the compressed video sequence that is video compression standard such as MPEG. For fast content-based browsing and video retrieval in a video database, we also provide a novel coarse-to-fine video indexing scheme. In the extracted key frame, we perform the region segmentation as a preprocessing. First, the segmented image is projected with the horizontal direction, then we transform the result into a histogram, which is saved as a database index. In the second step, we calculate the moments and change them into a distance value. From the simulation results, the proposed method clearly shows the validity and superiority in respect of computation time and memory space, and that in conjunction with other techniques for indexing, such as color, can provide a powerful framework for image indexing and retrieval.

  • In the 2000s, the PC package game market has withered, but the internet based on-line game, the wireless internet based mobile game and high-powered console game market have been main stream. Among those markets, mobile game market has rapidly increased because it has 'mobility' that overcomes the limitation of time and area. But, unlike other platforms, mobile game user have to pay the higher price for download mobile game contents through the wireless internet and mobile game developer have to overcome the limitation of storage memory capacity.of mobile phone. Chiefly, the image data consume the storage capacity of mobile game contents, this paper present a technology to optimize image data for mobile game contents through analyzing type of compression method and image formats.

  • From the time the product is manufactured until it is carried and ultimately used, the product is subjected to some form of handling and transportations. During this process, the product can be subjected to many potential hazards. One of them is the damage caused by shocks. In order to design a product-package system to protect the product, the peak acceleration or G force to the product that causes damage needs to be determined. When a corrugated fiberboard box loaded with products is dropped onto the ground, part of the energy acquired due to the action of the gravitational acceleration during the free fall is dissipated in the product and the package in various ways. The shock absorbing characteristics of the packaging cushion materials are presented as a family of cushion curves in which curves showing peak accelerations during impacts for a range of static loads are shown for several drop heights. The new method for determining the shock absorbing characteristics of cushioning materials for protective packaging has been described and demonstrated. It has been shown that cushion curves can be produced by combining the static compression and impact characteristics of the material. The dynamic factor was determined by the iterative least mean squares (ILMS) optimization technique in which the discrepancies between peak acceleration data predicted from the theoretical model and obtained from the impact tests are minimized. The approach enabled an efficient determination of cushion curves from a small number of experimental impact data.

  • Slug flow is the most common multi-phase flow encountered in oil and gas industry. In this study, the hydrodynamic features of flow in pipes investigated numerically using computational fluid dynamic (CFD) simulations for the effect of slug flow on the vertical and bent pipeline. The compressible Reynold averaged Navier-Stokes (RANS) equation was used as the governing equation, with the volume of fluid (VOF) method to capture the outline of the bubble in a pipeline. The simulations were tested for the grid and time step convergence, and validated with the experimental and theoretical results for the main hydrodynamic characteristics of the Taylor bubble, i.e., bubble shape, terminal velocity of bubble, and the liquid film velocity. The slug flow was simulated with various air and water injection velocities in the pipeline. The simulations revealed the effect of slug flow as the pressure occurring in the wall of the pipeline. The peak pressure and pressure oscillations were observed, and those magnitudes and trends were compared with the change in air and water injection velocities. The mechanism of the peak pressures was studied in relation with the change in bubble length, and the maximum peak pressures were investigated for the different positions and velocities of the air and water in the pipeline. The pressure oscillations were investigated in comparison with the bubble length in the pipe and the oscillation was provided with the application of damping. The pressures were compared with the case of a bent pipe, and a 1.5 times higher pressures was observed due to the compression of the bubbles at the corner of the bent. These findings can be used as a basic data for further studies and designs on pipeline systems with multi-phase flow.

  • The latest volumetric technology's high geometrical accuracy and realism ensure a high degree of correspondence between the real object and the captured 3D model. Nevertheless, since the 3D model obtained in this way constitutes a sequence as a completely independent 3D model between frames, the consistency of the model surface structure (geometry) is not guaranteed for every frame, and the density of vertices is very high. It can be seen that the interconnection node (Edge) becomes very complicated. 3D models created using this technology are inherently different from models created in movie or video game production pipelines and are not suitable for direct use in applications such as real-time rendering, animation and simulation, and compression. In contrast, our method achieves consistency in the quality of the volumetric 3D model sequence by linking re-meshing, which ensures high consistency of the 3D model surface structure between frames and the gradual deformation and texture transfer through correspondence and matching of non-rigid surfaces. And It maintains the consistency of volumetric 3D model sequence quality and provides post-processing automation.

  • In this study, the progressive failure behavior of the composite fan blade dovetail element under tensile loading is numerically investigated through finite element(FE) simulation. The accuracy of prediction by FE simulation is verified through tensile testing. The dovetail element is one of the joints for coupling the fan blade with the disk in a turbofan engine. The dovetail element is usually made of a metal material such as titanium, but the application of composite material is being studied for weight reduction reasons. However, manufacturing defects such as drop-off ply and resin pocket inevitably occur in realizing complex shapes of the fan blade made by composite materials. To investigate the effect of these manufacturing defects on the composite fan blade dovetail element, we performed numerical simulation with FE model to compare the prediction of the FE model and the tensile test results. At this time, the cohesive zone model is used to simulate the delamination behavior. Finally, we found that FE simulation results agree with test results when considering thermal residual stress and through-thickness compression enhancement effect.
