Rotation and Size Invariant Fingerprint Recognition Using The Neural Net (회전과 크기변화에 무관한 신경망을 이용한 지문 인식)

  • In this paper, the rotation and size invariant fingerprint recognition using the neural network EART (Extended Adaptive Resonance Theory) is studied ($515{\times}512$) gray level fingerprint images are converted into the binary thinned images based on the adaptive threshold and a thinning algorithm. From these binary thinned images, we extract the ending points and the bifurcation points, which are the most useful critical feature points in the fingerprint images, using the $3{\times}3$ MASK. And we convert the number of these critical points and the interior angles of convex polygon composed of the bifurcation points into the 40*10 critical using the weighted code which is invariant of rotation and size as the input of EART. This system produces very good and efficient results for the rotation and size variations without the restoration of the binary thinned fingerprints.

  • The macro-and microstructure of Chinese cabbage used for Korean Kimchi preparation were examined and the texture characteristics of raw cabbage leaf and salted or blanched leaves were evaluated by cutting test. The length and thickness of leaf stalk increased with the order of pyllotaxis, but the thinning effect of outermost leaves was observed. The microstructure of cut-profile of stalk showed densely compacted vascular systems aligned in the center of stalk and the outer space was filled with large parenchima cells. Due to this structure, characteristic cutting curves were obtained by cutting test, composing three peaks of cutting for inner surface skin, center vascular system and outer surface skin. Salting and blanching increased the cutting force mainly due to the increase of Gutted cell wall number caused by the structure collapse.

Study of the Rheological Properties of a Fermentation Broth of the Fungus Beauveria bassiana in a Bioreactor Under Different Hydrodynamic Conditions

  • Fermentation with filamentous fungi in a bioreactor is a complex dynamic process that is affected by flow conditions and the evolution of the rheological properties of the medium. These properties are mainly affected by the biomass concentration and the morphology of the fungus. In this work, the rheological properties of a fermentation with the fungus Beauveria bassiana under different hydrodynamic conditions were studied and the rheological behavior of this broth was simulated through a mixture of carboxymethyl cellulose sodium and cellulose fibers (CMCNa-SF). The bioreactor was a 10 L CSTR tank operated at different stir velocities. Rheological results were similar at 100 and 300 rpm for both systems. However, there was a significant increase in the viscosity accompanied by a change in the consistence index, calculated according to the power law model, for both systems at 800 rpm. The systems exhibited shear-thinning behavior at all stir velocities, which was determined with the power law model. The mixing time was observed to increase as the cellulose content in the system increased and, consequently, the efficiency of mixing diminished. These results are thought to be due to the rheological and morphological similarities of the two fungal systems. These results will help in the optimization of scale-up production of these fungi.

Automatic fingerprint recognition using directional information in wavelet transform domain (웨이블렛 변환 영역에서의 방향 정보를 이용한 지문인식 알고리즘)

  • The objective of this paper is to develop an algorithm for a real-time automatic fingerprint recognition system. The algorithm employs the wavelet transform(WT) and the dominat local orientation that derived from the gradient Gaussian(GoG) and coherence in determining the directions of ridges in fingerprint images. By using the WT, the algorithm does not require conventional preprocessing procedures such as smothing, binarization, thining and restoration. For recognition, two fingerprint images are compared in three different ST domains;one that represents the original image compressed to quarter(LL), another that shows vertical directional characteristic(LH), and third as the block that contains horizontal direction(HL) in WT domain. Each block has dominat local orientation that derived from the GoG and coherence. The proposed algorithm is imprlemented on a SunSparc-2 workstation under X-window environment. Our simulation results, in real-time have shown that while the rate of Type II error-Incorrect recognition of two identical fingerprints as the identical fingerprints-is held at 0%, the rate of Type I error-Incorrect recognitionof two identical fingerprints as the different ones-is 2.5%.

Swelling and Pasting Properties of Non-Waxy Rice Flour/Food Gum Systems

  • The effects of gellan gum (from S. paucimobilis), EPS-CB (exopolysaccharide from S. chungbukensis), and a series of commercial gums (arabic gum, xanthan gum, guar gum, deacyl gellan gum), on the swelling, rheological, and pasting properties of non-waxy rice flour dispersions were investigated. The swelling properties of rice flours in gellan or guar gum dispersion after heating were found to have increased with increasing gum concentrations, but the swelling properties of rice flour/other gum systems decreased with increasing concentrations. The rice flour/gum mixtures showed high shear-thinning flow behavior (n=0.14-0.32), and consistency index (K) was higher in guar gum than other gum dispersions. The initial pasting temperatures and peak times increased along with increasing gum concentration. The peak viscosity of rice flour increased in guar gum and deacyl gellan dispersions, and the breakdown and setback viscosity of the rice flour paste was lowest in the xanthan gum system, but remained higher than those of the control. The apparent viscosities of the rice flour/gellan gum mixture pastes were the highest among the tested combinations.

  • In this study, the performance of an impeller according to blade length and pitch angle was studied experimentally by building a variable pitch impeller while changing blade length to review the effect of blade length and pitch angle on a fan's performance. The pitch angle was changed in six steps from $20^{\circ}{\sim}45^{\circ}$ at intervals of $5^{\circ}$ while the blade lengths were changed to 90 mm, 100 mm, 110 mm and 120 mm with an identical airfoil shape while carrying out the experiment. The results are summarized as follows : The air flow per static pressure of axial fans increased linearly with increase of pitch angle, but the high static pressure showed a decrease at a pitch angle of $35^{\circ}$. The shaft power increased proportionally to the pitch angle at all blade lengths; the larger the pitch angle, the larger the measured increase of shaft power. Trend and Prospect for 3Dimensional Integrated-Circuit Semiconductor Chip (3차원 집적회로 반도체 칩 기술에 대한 경향과 전망)

  • As a demand for the portable device requiring smaller size and better performance is in hike, reducing the size of conventionally used planar 2 dimensional chip cannot be a solution for the enhancement of the semiconductor chip technology due to an increase in RC delay among interconnects. To address this problem, a new technology - "3 dimensional (3D) IC chip stack" - has been emerging. For the integration of the technology, several new key unit processes (e.g., silicon through via, wafer thinning and wafer alignment and bonding) should be developed and much effort is being made to achieve the goal. As a result of such efforts, 4 and 8 chip-stacked DRAM and NAND structures and a system stacking CPU and memory chips vertically were successfully developed. In this article, basic theory, configurations and key unit processes for the 3D IC chip integration, and a current tendency of the technology are explained. Future opportunities and directions are also discussed.

Analysis of Working Posture Using OWAS in Forest Work (산림작업(山林作業)에서 OWAS기법(技法)을 이용(利用)한 작업자세(作業姿勢) 분석(分析))

  • In forestry, where improvement of labor environment is quite impossible, improved posture would result in direct effects by preventing waste of physical strength, prevention of accidental injury caused by fatigue accumulated on certain body parts, and prevention of human error by inattentiveness due to weakened body. Therefore, this research carried on analysis of working posture in manual forest work(thinning using chain-saw, salvage cutting using chain-saw, clearing using hand saw, clearance of twiner using sickle, pruning using saw with a long handle, and tending of young growth using sickle) using OWAS analysis system. According to the OWAS method, percentage of OWAS action categories III and IV in the tasks using chain-saw and sickle was higher than another tasks. For the compared middle skillful worker group and low skillful worker group at felling work using chain-saw, percentage of OWAS action categories IV in middle skillful worker group was 5.1%, and low skillful worker group was 14.1%.

  • The complicate software failure system is defined to the superposition of the points of failure from several component point process. Because the likelihood function is difficulty in computing, we consider Gibbs sampler using iteration sampling based method. For each observed failure epoch, we applied to latent variables that indicates with component of the superposition mode. For model selection, we explored the posterior Bayesian criterion and the sum of relative errors for the comparison simple pattern with superposition model. A numerical example with NHPP simulated data set applies the thinning method proposed by Lewis and Shedler[25] is given, we consider Goel-Okumoto model and Weibull model with GOS, inference of parameter is studied. Using the posterior Bayesian criterion and the sum of relative errors, as we would expect, the superposition model is best on model under diffuse priors.

Fabrication of Lignin Nanofibers Using Electrospinning (전기방사를 이용한 리그닌 나노섬유의 제조)

  • Lignin is an abundant natural polymer in the biosphere and second only to cellulose; however, it is under-utilized and considered a waste. In this study, lignin was fabricated into nanofibers via electrospinning. The critical parameters that affected the electrospinnability and morphology of the resulting fibers were examined with the aim to utilize lignin as a resource for a new textile material. Poly(vinyl alcohol) (PVA) was added as a carrier polymer to facilitate the fiber formation of lignin, and the electrospun fibers were deposited on polyester (PET) nonwoven substrate. Eleven lignin/PVA hybrid solutions with a different lignin to PVA mass ratio were prepared and then electrospun to find an optimum concentration. Lignin nano-fibers were electrospun under a variety of conditions such as various feed rates, needle gauges, electric voltage, and tip-to-collector distances in order to find an optimum spinning condition. We found that the optimum concentration for electrospinning was a 5wt% PVA precursor solution upon the addition of lignin with the mass ratio of PVA:lignin=1:5.6. The viscosity of the lignin/PVA hybrid solution was determined as an important parameter that affected the electrospinning process; in addition, the interrelation between the viscosity of hybrid solution and the electrospinnability was examined. The solution viscosity increased with lignin loading, but exhibited a shear thinning behavior beyond a certain concentration that resulted in needle clogging. A steep increase in viscosity was also noted when the electrospun system started to form fibers. Consequently, the viscosity range to produce bead-free lignin nanofibers was revealed. The energy dispersive X-ray analysis confirmed that lignin remained after being transformed into nanofibers. The results indicate the possibility of developing a new fiber material that utilizes biomass with resulting fibers that can be applied to various applications such as filtration to wound dressing.
