Flexural Vibration Analysis of a Sandwich Beam Specimen with a Partially Inserted Viscoelastic Layer

  • The flexural vibration characteristics of a sandwich beam system with a partially inserted viscoelastic layer were quantitatively studied using the finite element analysis in combination with the sine-sweep experiment. Asymmetric mode shapes of the flexural vibration were visualized by holographic interferometry, which agreed with those obtained by the finite element simulation. Effects of the length and the thickness of the partial viscoelastic layer on the system loss factor (η$\_$s/) and resonant frequency (f$\_$r/) were significantly large for both the symmetric and asymmetric modes of the beam system.

  • This paper presents a dynamic analysis of the high-speed spindle system for vertical machining center using finite techniques. The computed natural frequencies are compared with the measured frequencies obtained from experimental modal analysis. The results show that the bending and twisting deformations of the spindle housing dominate in the lowest modes owing to low dynamic stiffness of the housing structure. The design parameters in the analysis are : (a) panel thickness of the housing (b ) height of the housing, and (c) spindle-to-column distance of the housing. Through sensitivity analysis and optimizing simulation considering design constraints, an optimal design of the spindle system has been obtained.

The effect of different functionalities of FGM and FGPM layers on free vibration analysis of the FG circular plates integrated with piezoelectric layers

  • The present paper deals with the free vibration analysis of the functionally graded solid and annular circular plates with two functionally graded piezoelectric layers at top and bottom subjected to an electric field. Classical plate theory (CPT) is used for description of the all deformation components based on a symmetric distribution. All the mechanical and electrical properties except Poisson's ratio can vary continuously along the thickness direction of the plate. The properties of plate core can vary from metal at bottom to ceramic at top. The effect of non homogeneous index of functionally graded and functionally graded piezoelectric sections can be considered on the results of the system. $1^{st}$ and $2^{nd}$ modes of natural frequencies of the system have been evaluated for both solid and annular circular plates, individually.

  • In this paper, quasi-static crushing tests of composite circular tubes under axial compression load are conducted to investigate the energy absorption characteristics. Circular tubes used for this experiment are glass/epoxy (GFRP) composite tubes, which is fabricated by the filament winding method. One edge of the composite tube is chamfered to reduce the initial peak load and to prevent catastrophic failure during crushing process. Two suggested trigger mechanisms for the composite tubes are investigated. Crushing modes are mainly affected by thickness/diameter ratio, and average crushing loads are mainly affected by their cross-sections. Energy absorption characteristics vary significantly as a function of the tube geometry, trigger mechanism, t/D ratio and the cross-sectional shape.

비균질한 천해에서의 수중음파 전파 (Underwater Sound Propagation in a range-dependent Shallow water environment)

  • 비균질한 천해에서의 저주파 수중음파의 전파 특성을 수치모델을 이용 분석하였다. 특히 전파매질의 비균질성이 독특한 대한해협의 겨울철 해수특성을 고려하여 음속의 수평변화, 저질두께 및 감쇠계수의 변화, 수심의 변화등 천혜의 독특한 환경 변화요인을 거의 망라한 경우를 모델로 삼았다. 음원과 수신기의 수심을 수면가까이에 둔 경우소위Mode function의 수심에 따른 특성에 의한 손실이 일반적인 손실원인보다 크게 나타났으며 Adiabatic approximation을 이용한 Mode coupling효과는 High Mode의 감쇠특성에 의해 천해에서의 모델 적용 가능성을 보여주었다.

고강도강 차체 박판부품 프레스성형 CAE의 예측 정확도 고찰 (Investigation of the Prediction Accuracy for the Stamping CAE of Thin-walled Automotive Products)

  • In the current study finite element forming analysis is performed to understand the final geometric accuracy limitations for the stamping of an automotive S-rail from four different steel sheets having tensile strengths of 340MPa, 440MPa, 590MPa and 780MPa. Comparisons between the analysis and the experiments for both springback and formability as measured by the amount of edge draw-in and the thickness distribution were conducted. The springback modes were classified according to a scheme proposed in the current investigation and the error was calculated using the normalized root mean square error method. While the analysis results show fairly good agreement with the experimental data for deformation and formability, the simulation accuracy is lower for predicting wall curl, camber and section twist as the UTS of steel sheet increases.

  • A Lamb wave guided by a plate structure has dispersive characteristics because phase and group velocity change with the variation of frequency and thickness. The Lamb wave has two modes, symmetric and anti-symmetric mode, which propagates symmetrically and non-symmetrically with respect to centerline. In this paper, the derivation of Lamb wave equation with anisotropic material property is investigated. The phase velocity and group velocity dispersion curves are shown using the stiffness matrix of composite materials with the variation of angle.

  • High intensity metal halide discharge lamp performance, specifically the generated luminous flux and light color content, depends critically on the arc tube design. Factors influencing the design and consequent lamp efficacy include : lamp size, geometry, arc tube composition, fill chemistry, electrode design and excitation modes. Shaping of Polycrystalline Alumina(PCA) can be realized by conventional ceramic processes. Several processes are applied nowadays. Well-known in the ceramic high pressure field for decades are the pressing and the extrusion method. Newly developed slurry and precious forming technologies give the one-body seamless tubes, which improve thickness uniformity and lighting performance. Now, we reported some optical properties with different arc tube structures of ceramic metal halide lamps.

  • Modal damping characteristics of the flexural vibration of a sandwich beam with paaially inserted viscoelastic layer have been quantitatively studied using the finite element analysis in combination with an experiment. Antisymmetric mode shapes of the flexural vibration were visualized by the holographic interferometry and agreed with those calculated by the finite element simulation. Effects of the length and thickness of partial viscoelastic layers on the system loss factor($\mu$) and resonant frequency($\omega$) were considerably latge at both symmetric and antisymmetric modes of the sandwich beam.

  • 판재를 통과하며 진행하는 Lamb wave는 주파수와 두께에 따라 전파 속도가 다른 특성을 지니며 진행한다. 이러한 특성은 분산이라고 하며, 대칭과 비대칭 모드 2개의 특성을 갖는다. 특히, 복합재료에서는 방향에 따라 속도가 변화하는 특성을 갖는데, 본 논문에서는 복합재 판재에서 초음파 전파속도 실험과 이론값과 차이에 대해서 살펴 본다.
