Purpose: This study examined the mediating effects of nursing professionalism on the relationship between the stress of clinical practice and compassion competence in nursing students. Methods: A correlational research design was used in this study. The participants were 120 nursing students recruited from three universities in South Korea. Data were collected using the self-reporting scales of stress of clinical practice, nursing professionalism, and compassion competence. Baron and Kenny's regression method and the Sobel test were used to analyze the mediating effects of nursing professionalism on the association between the stress of clinical practice and compassion competence. Results: The mean score for compassion competence was above average. Of the compassion competence domains, sensitivity and insights had the highest and lowest scores, respectively; there were significant mean differences in compassion competence scores according to their grade and level of satisfaction with nursing major. Compassion competence correlated negatively with the stress of clinical practice, whereas it correlated positively with nursing professionalism. In addition, nursing professionalism exerted full mediating effects on the relationship between the stress of clinical practice and compassion competence. Conclusion: The results suggested that enhancing nursing professionalism could help promote compassion competence among nursing students who experience stress in clinical practice.
본 연구는 요양보호사 교육이 서비스 질에 미치는 영향에 있어 전문성과 긍정심리자본의 이중매개효과를 분석함으로써 요양보호사 교육의 지향점을 탐색하고자 수행하였다. 분석 결과 요양보호사 교육은 서비스 질, 전문성, 긍정심리자본에 유의한 영향을 미치는 것으로 나타나 요양보호사 교육에 대한 인식이 긍정적일수록 서비스 질, 전문성, 긍정심리자본에 대한 인식도 긍정적으로 높아질 수 있음을 확인하였다. 또한 전문성과 긍정심리자본은 각각 요양보호사 교육이 서비스 질에 미치는 영향을 매개하는 것으로 나타남으로서 요양보호사 교육은 전문성을 향상시킴으로써서비스 질을 높일 수 있고 요양보호사 교육은 긍정심리자본을 향상시킴으로써 서비스 질을 높일 수 있는 요인임을알 수 있다. 전문성과 긍정심리자본은 요양보호사 교육이 서비스 질에 미치는 영향을 이중매개함으로서 전문성이 긍정심리자본에 유의한 영향을 미치고 있음을 알 수 있었다. 이에 따라 요양보호사 교육은 전문성을 향상시키고, 향상된 전문성은 긍정심리자본을 증진시키며, 이를 통해 서비스 질이 높아진다는 것을 확인하였다. 본 연구결과에 따라요양보호사 교육에 있어 전문성의 함양이 중요하며, 전문성의 함양을 통한 긍정심리자본의 증진이 서비스 질을 높일수 있다는 것을 실증적으로 확인할 수 있었다. 이에 따라 향후 진행될 요양보호사 교육에 전문성과 긍정심리자본의 향상과 관련된 교육이 포함되어야 한다는 것을 조망할 수 있었다는 데에 의의가 있다.
Purpose: The purpose of this descriptive study was to investigate the level of nursing professionalism and influencing factors of professionalism in nursing students. Method: A convenience sample of 207 subjects were recruited from two universities in I city and one university in S city. The subject for this survey were senior students who finished all clinical practicum to be done before graduation. Results: The mean scores of the nursing professionalism and the satisfaction with clinical practice were 3.43 and 3.28 individually. The mean of self-efficacy and image of nurses were 3.60 and 3.71 individually. Mean of major satisfaction score was 3.88. There were significant correlations among nursing professionalism, satisfaction with clinical practice, self-efficacy, image of nurses and major satisfaction. The most strong factor affecting nursing professionalism was the image of nurses and accounted 52.0 percentage of the variance. Sixty point one percentage of the variance was explained by image of nurses, major satisfaction, religion and satisfaction with clinical practice. Conclusion: To make students have more positive nursing professionalism, strategies enhancing the positive nurse image, clinical satisfaction, and major satisfaction need to be developed during school years.
Objectives: This study aimed to confirm the degree of gender sensitivity, gender role conflict, nursing professionalism of nursing students and the factors that affect nursing professionalism. Methods: During Jan. 19 to Feb. 5 in 2021, the structured questionnaire was used for 187 nursing students by on-line research methods. Data were analyzed by descriptive analysis, mean comparison(t-test, ANOVA), correlation analysis(Pearson's correlation coefficient) and multiple regression using SPSS/WIN 25.0. Results: The gender sensitivity had positive relationship with nursing professionalism, and gender role conflict had negative relationship with nursing professionalism. And the prediction factors influencing nursing professionalism were major satisfaction, gender sensitivity and gender role conflict. The total variance was 8.2% by predictors. Conclusions: In order to improve the nursing professionalism of nursing students, various ways to increase the satisfaction level of major should be sought, and program should be prepared to improve gender sensitivity and reduce gender role conflict.
Purpose: The purpose of this study was to examine self-efficacy, nursing professionalism, organizational commitment for nurses and the mediating effect of nursing professionalism on the relationship between self-efficacy and organizational commitment. Method: Data were collected by questionnaires from 185 nurses in hospitals from June 10 to August 30, 2010. Data were analyzed by Pearson's correlation coefficient and multiple regression procedures. Result: 1. The nurses investigated attained a mean of 4.77 and 3.37 on self-efficacy and organizational commitment respectively. They attained a mean of 4.55 on nursing professionalism. 2. Correlation among self-efficacy and nursing professionalism had a positive correlation to organizational commitment 3. Nursing professionalism had a mediating effect on the relationship between self-efficacy and organizational commitment. Conclusion: Self-efficacy exerted an influence on organizational commitment through the mediating effect of nursing professionalism and is expected to lay the foundation for the promotion of organizational commitment.
Purpose: Midwives working in hospitals (MWH) have limited roles in managing and assisting births independently. To find ways to successfully integrate midwifery into care systems, exploring midwives' work-related perceptions might be the first step. The purpose of this study was to compare professionalism and job satisfaction between Korean midwives working in birthing centers (MWBC) and MWH. Methods: A descriptive comparative design was used, querying 19 MWBC and 53 MWH in Korea. Data were accrued from October to November 2017 using the Professionalism Inventory Scale and the Job Satisfaction Scale. Results: Age, marital status, monthly income, length of career as a midwife, and length of career in the current workplace were significantly different between MWBC and MWH. The level of professionalism in MWBC showed significant differences by position at the birthing center (t=16.19, p=.001). Professionalism and job satisfaction among MWH showed significant differences depending on perceived professional performance (F=9.95, p<.001 and F=11.04, p<.001, respectively). Levels of professionalism and job satisfaction were higher for MWBC than for MWH. Conclusion: Educational programs designed to enhance professionalism and expand the role of MWH are suggested. Also, policy changes that clearly define job roles and improvement of the legal system is required to enable MWH in Korea to effectively perform their midwifery work and be properly reimbursed.
Purpose: The purpose of this study was to examine the relationship between nursing professionalism, academic emotional regulation, and college life adjustment level and to identify the influence of nursing professionalism and academic emotional regulation on college life adjustment. Methods: Data collection was conducted with 142 junior and senior nursing college students using structured self-reported questionnaires. Data were analyzed using descriptive statistics, independent t-tests, one-way ANOVA, Pearson correlation coefficient, and hierarchical multiple regression analysis using SPSS 22.0. Results: There was a positive correlation between nursing professionalism, academic emotional adjustment, and college life adjustment. The significant predictors of overall college life adjustment were major satisfaction, nursing professionalism, and academic emotional regulation. The significant predictors of clinical practice adjustment were gender, major satisfaction, and nursing professionalism. Conclusion: When developing a program to improve college life adjustment in nursing college students, it is necessary to find ways to improve nursing professionalism and academic emotional regulation as well as major satisfaction.
Purpose: The purpose of this study was to investigate the influence of cultural competence on nursing professionalism among nursing students in South Korea. Methods: A sample of 218 nursing students in three universities answered a self-report questionnaire. Descriptive statistics, t-test, ANOVA, Mann-Whitney U-test, Kruskal-Wallis test, Pearson's correlation analyses, and hierarchical multiple regression were used to analyze the data. Results: There were significant differences in cultural competence depending on the use of foreign language, having foreign friends, frequency of interaction with foreigners, multi-cultural education experiences, and level of demand for multicultural education. There were significant differences in nursing professionalism depending on grade level, satisfaction with major choice, college life satisfaction, and foreign language learning experience. There was a significant positive correlation between cultural competence and nursing professionalism. Lastly, significant predictors of nursing professionalism included satisfaction with major choice (${\beta}=.22$, p=.004), cultural awareness (${\beta}=.22$, p=.007) and cultural experience (${\beta}=.17$, p=.026). The regression model explained 20.2% of nursing professionalism. Conclusion: In order to establish desirable nursing professionalism, strategies for enhancing cultural awareness and cultural experiences in nursing education courses are needed both inside and outside the curriculum.
Objectives : The purpose of this study was to identify mediating effects of nursing professionalism on the relationship between image of nurses and satisfaction with nursing as a major among nursing students. Methods : A self report questionnaire survey was completed by 429 nursing students in 1 university in K city. Data were collected between April 25 and May 06, 2016 and analyzed using the SPSS 21.0 program. Results : The nursing students recognized that image of nurses had a positive (+) effect on nursing professionalism and satisfaction with nursing as a major, and nursing professionalism had a positive (+) effect on satisfaction with nursing as a major. Further, nursing professionalism had significant partial mediating effect on the relationship between image of nurses and satisfaction with nursing as a major. Conclusions : These results indicate that nursing professionalism has a positive mediating role on the relationship between image of nurses and satisfaction with nursing as a major among nursing students. Therefore, in order to promote satisfaction with nursing as a major in nursing students, it is necessary to develop and implement educational programs that can form a desirable image of nurses and nursing professionalism.
Purpose: This study was a descriptive correlation research to identify the relationships between stress, grit, and nursing professionalism of nursing college students. This correlation study provides fundamental resources for enhancing nursing professionalism. Methods: Data were collected from December 1 to 31, 2019 with 287 students who agreed to participate in the study after completing at least one semester of clinical practice at three universities. SPSS 26.0 was employed to analyze the data using descriptive statistics, t-test, ANOVA, and Pearson's correlation coefficient. Results: The average scores of college-based stress, clinical-based stress, grit, and nursing professionalism were 1.66±0.71 out of 4, 1.51±0.72 out of 4, 3.11±0.60 out of 5, and 3.69±0.47 out of 5, respectively. Stress had a significant negative correlation with grit. Grit had a significant positive correlation with nursing professionalism. On the other hand, there was no statistically significant correlation between stress and nursing professionalism. Conclusion: The results of this study suggest that it is necessary to improve nursing students' grit level to develop effective stress management programs, in order to enhance their positive nursing professionalism.
