  • In recent years, a number of long span cable-stayed pedestrian bridges have been constructed to the advantages of relatively low cost construction and the many tourists visiting. However, most of the pedestrian bridges are located in parks or sightseeing areas, so they are conducted without proper review and design process. It is necessary to review the aerodynamic stability of the long span cable-stayed pedestrian bridge, and it should be designed in detail from various points of view rather than the road bridge. In this study, we investigated the wind characteristics of the cable-stayed pedestrian bridge, and the empirical equations for the relationship between the main span length and the fundamental natural frequencies are presented for future use. In addition, the flutter wind speed limit of the flat plate deck pedestrian bridge calculated using the Selberg's equation is also presented. The final aerodynamic bridge section which satisfied the aerodynamic stability was found from open grating method. The proposed method can be used for long span cable-stayed pedestrian bridge in the future.

  • The aim of this study was to identify community-level childcare infrastructure for infants and toddlers and to use the data to categorize community types using K-Means cluster analysis with spatial constraints. Seven indicators of childcare resource supply were used for the purpose of categorization and the results revealed six types of community cluster. Communities in the Type 1 cluster provided sufficient parks, libraries, and kindergartens, but lacked pediatric facilities and private education institutions. This cluster comprised small cities and rural areas in Gangwon-do, Gyeongsangbuk-do, Chungcheongbuk-do, and Jeollabuk-do. The Type 2 cluster had numerous pediatric facilities and childcare centers, but lacked other childcare infrastructure. This comprised small and medium-sized cities in Gyeonggi-do, some areas in Chungcheongnam-do, Chungcheongbuk-do, and Gangwon-do bordering Gyeonggi-do. The Type 3 cluster comprised Busan, Daegu, and Gyeongsangnam-do, but had insufficient childcare infrastructure as a whole. Type 4 had the largest number of childcare centers, libraries, and private education institutions and comprised Jeollabuk-do, areas near Gwangju, and Jeju-do. Type 5, consisting of Seoul, Incheon and the southern part of Gyeonggi-do had many pediatric facilities and certified childcare centers, but lacked other childcare infrastructure. Type 6, being the rural areas and islands in Jeollanam-do, had sufficient kindergartens, but other infrastructure was insufficient. These results are expected to provide local government with policy implications in terms of relieving the childcare burden on residents with infants and toddlers.

  • This study analyzed economic feasibility using the real options theory of the eco-environment area project in Saemangeum. I defined the main factors affecting project sales during the 30 years operation period. The real option-based analysis is proposed through the managerial flexibility by estimating the volatility of project sales using scenarios analysis method. The number of visitors, admission fee, leisure program fee, and O&M costs required for economic analysis of eco-environment park were analyzed by reviewing cases of similar eco-environment parks in Korea. The option value is calculated by assuming that the developers have an option right that can be abandoned. B/C is less than 1 and NPV is negative, so it is impossible to proceed with the project using the traditional economic analysis. The project value difference between NPV (-46.6 billion Won) and option value (28.1 billion Won) increased by 74.7 billion Won. Through this study, decision-makers of public institutions and private developers who plan eco-environment area projects will be able to use the real option technique proposed in this study.

  • Autumn visitors to Chuwangsan National Park was more than summer's. About 89% of total visitors used main trail but approximately 35% visited to the Third Falls. The entire width, bare width, maximum depth and slope of trail as the trail condition surveyed at the total of 103 points were significantly greater on the more heavily-used trail. Trail conditons of rock-exposed, root-exposed, deepening points as the deterioration types of trail were significantly different from those of non-deteriorated points. According to the topographic position of trail, severe difference of dominant trees in the edge vegetation was found and Lespedeza maximowiczii, Rhododendron yedoense and Fraxinus sieboldana were dominant in shrub layer of trail edge vegetation. The crown coverage, number of species and individuals of shrub layer in edge vegetation were generally higher than those in the other national parks with more heavily-used trail.

  • Virtual reality technology was initially developed for entertainment purposes such as games, movies, sports, and theme parks, but gradually expanded to a number of industries such as education, e-commerce, and health care,. Therefore, safety education content incorporating VR is also rising rapidly. However, the program activity on safety education in our country is still insignificant. Although rescue of patients with acute cardiac arrest using defibrillators is one of the most representative safety education, in 2014, defibrillators are rarely used in Korea to save the lives of patients and there are very few cases of using defibrillators. The use of automatic defibrillators and the importance of knowing how to use them for expanding accessibility are necessary. However, it is not easy to provide experience education only after completing the safety education in simple theoretical education. In this paper, we propose a automatic defibrillator training simulation system using virtual reality that can be freelu trained at any time.

  • Busan Metropolitan City lacks leisure-oriented spaces for children compared to other cities. Furthermore, it is difficult to maintain the amusement facilities for children scattered around the city due to the fact that they were worn out. To set up a leisure-oriented park for children on the site for children amusement facilities, the present study is concerned about planning children amusement facilities for public use compatible with the new trend for children amusement facilities. For this purpose, a number of case studies, carried out domestic and abroad on developing children amusement facilities, were examined to choose appropriate facilities and feasible project plans were drawn up. Major findings of the study are as follows. First, it is strongly suggested that this project should be promoted because it is a leading pilot project for building children theme parks for each zone in Busan Metropolitan City. Second, it is suggested that field study programs should be run in connection with Busan Metropolitan City Office of Education.

  • Coastal sand dunes in West coast of Korea are under stress. Due to the newly constructed Seohaean(West Coast) Highways, the number of visitors and the anthropogenic pressures will keep rising in near future. Sea level rise due to the global warming may cause a lot of damage to the natural resources and residents of coastal area. Therefore, many countries including United States are doing nationwide coastline survey using highly sophisticated methodology. In this study, high resolution IKONOS satellite images along with aerial photographs taken since 1960's have been sequentially analyzed using GIS software (Erdas Imagine 8.3). Onsite monitoring has been performed at the 31 measuring points in 10 beaches since the May of 2001 in order to measure the sand budget. Post-construction monitoring after installation of sand fences is also being done on sites regularly. Restoration works seem to be effective at this moment.
