We investigate the eigenvalues of the semi-circulant preconditioned matrix for the finite difference scheme corresponding to the second-order elliptic operator with the variable coefficients given by $L_vu\;:=-{\Delta}u+a(x,\;y)u_x+b(x,\;y)u_y+d(x,\;y)u$, where a and b are continuously differentiable functions and d is a positive bounded function. The semi-circulant preconditioning operator $L_cu$ is constructed by using the leading term of $L_vu$ plus the constant reaction term such that $L_cu\;:=-{\Delta}u+d_cu$. Using the field of values arguments, we show that the eigenvalues of the preconditioned matrix are clustered at some number. Some numerical evidences are also provided.

An algorithm for the state estimation and identification of multivariable nonlinear systems with noisy nonlinear observation has been investigated on the basis of the multidimensional Hermitian expansion for the a posteriori probability densities of the predicted observation, the predicted state and the observation conditioned by the state. A new approach for construction of this sequential nonlinear estimator, retaining up to the second order term of the observation error, has been developed, along with the approximation of nonlinear system functions, truncating at the second term. The estimation of the unknown parameters has been established by extending the state estimation technique, regarding the parameters as another state variables. The results of investigation indicate the feasibility of the schemes presented in this paper.

본 논문에서는 선형 이진 신경회로망 (Linear Binary neural Network)을 이용하여 이진 영상으로부터 골격(skeleton)을 추출하는 병렬 구조를 제안하였다. 기존의 골격 추출 알고리즘으로부터 이진함수를 추출하고 이를 MSP Term Grouping Algorithm을 이용하여 학습시겼다. 결과에서는 기존의 역전과 (Back-propagation) 학습알고리즘을 사용한 신경회로망보다 더 쉽게 하드웨어로 구현할 수 있음을 보여준다.

In this paper, an adaptive method of dividing a speech signal into an initial, a medial and a final sound of the form of utterance utilized by evaluating extreme limits of short term energy and autocorrelation functions. By applying this method into speech signal composed of a consonant, a vowel and a consonant, it was divided into an initial, a medial and a final sound and its feature analysis of sample by LPC were carried out. As a result of spectrum analysis in each period, it was observed that there existed spectrum features of a consonant and a vowel in the initial and medial periods respectively and features of both in a final sound. Also, when all kinds of words were adaptively divided into 3 periods by using the proposed method, it was found that the initial sounds of the same consonant and the medial sounds of the same vowels have the same spectrum characteristics respectively, but the final sound showed different spectrum characteristics even if it had the same consonant as the initial sound.

This paper presents a novel method for simultaneously and automatically choosing the nonlinear structures of regressors or discriminant functions, as well as the number of terms to include in a rule-based regression model or pattern classifier. Variables are first partitioned into subsets each of which has a linguistic term (called a causal condition) associated with it; fuzzy sets are used to model the terms. Candidate interconnections (causal combinations) of either a term or its complement are formed, where the connecting word is AND which is modeled using the minimum operation. The data establishes which of the candidate causal combinations survive. A novel theoretical result leads to an exponential speedup in establishing this.

As the circumstance of the traditional system is changed according to power system deregulation, the simulation tool which should reflect market code providing market operating mechanism is needed to analyze an electricity market. This paper presents the development of Electricity Market Price Simulator for short term(EMPS) that is designed to imitate the Korean electricity market. The EMPS is developed in VB.NET and is composed if three functions that consist of calculating SMP for CBP market, MCP for TWBF market and LMP for LMP-market. To evidence the features and the performance of EMPS, a small two way bidding market with 12-bus system, one way bidding market for generator competition and LMP market with 5-bus system will be presented for the electricity market simulations using EMPS.

Inchon Port is the second largest import-export port of Korea, and has the point at issue such as the excessive logistics cost because of the limits of handling capacity and the chronic demurrage. The purpose of this paper is to develop the simulation program as a long-term strategic support tool, considering the dual dock system and the TOC(Terminal Operation Company) system executed since March, 1997 in Inchon Port. The basic input parameters such as arrival intervals, cargo tons, service rates are analyzed and the probability density functions for these parameters are estimated. From the simulation model, it is possible to estimate the demurrage status through analyzing various scenarios and to establish the long-term port strategic plan.

Herein, an algorithm for efficient evaluation of oscillatory Fourier-integrals with Jacobi-Cauchy type singularities is suggested. This method is based on the use of the traditional Clenshaw-Curtis (CC) algorithms in which the given function is approximated by the truncated Chebyshev series, term by term, and the oscillatory factor is approximated by using Bessel function of the first kind. Subsequently, the modified moments are computed efficiently using the numerical steepest descent method or special functions. Furthermore, Algorithm and programming code in MATHEMATICA^® 9.0 are provided for the implementation of the method for automatic computation on a computer. Finally, selected numerical examples are given in support of our theoretical analysis.

In this paper, we develop a sliding mode controller that uses a nonlinear sliding manifold for the permanent magnet synchronous motor. The proposed controller makes sure that both currents and velocity tracking error converge into equilibria. Nonlinear sliding manifold consists of current dynamics and nonlinear functions which are designed with velocity tracking error and its integrated term. The nonlinear functions are designed to guarantee that velocity tracking error converge into zero. The closed-loop stability is proven by Lyapunov theory. The effectiveness of proposed method is demonstrated by numerical simulation results.

This study examined the spontaneous utterances of 20 1-2 year old Korean-Chinese children in Yanji, China by videotaping their spontaneous natural speech during interaction with his/her caregiver for 30 minutes on 4 separate occasions. Utterances were transcribed and coded by nominative and accusative case markers; then analyzed by grammatical functions. Results showed that the order and pattern of the acquisition of the case marking system of Korean-Chinese bilinguals differed from that of Korean monolinguals. Bilinguals used the accusative marker -lul earlier than the nominative marker-ka and overextended the accusative marker more often than the nominative marker. These results are consistent with those of Gathercole (in press) who found that bilingual children differed from monolinguals in mastering grammar.
