  • This paper deals with the design of conductor stringing of KEPCO 765kV transmission line. The main subject in the design of conductor stringing is the determination on what the stringing tension is. According to the stringing tension, the weight and height of towers and the strength necessary for conductor, hardware, insulator vary, and the construction cost and the reliability of tower are affected largely. Therefore, in order to determine the optimum condition for stringing conductors, We appraised various items : estimation of economic comparision, strength appraisal of conductor, hardware, insulator, etc. After studying these entirely, we present the condition of condutor stringing for KEPCO 765kV transmission line.

  • Micro Electrochemical Machining(Micro ECM) has traditionally been used in highly specialized fields such as those of the aerospace and defense industries. It is now increasingly being applied in other industries where parts with difficult-to-cut material, complex geometry and tribology such as compute. hard disk drive(HDD) are required. Pulse Electrochemical Micro-machining provides an economical and effective method for machining high strength, high tension, heat-resistant materials into complex shapes such as turbine blades of titanium and aluminum alloys. Usually aluminum alloys are used bearings to hard disk drive in computer. In order to apply aluminum alloys to bearing used in hard disk drive, this paper presents the characteristics of Micro ECM for aluminum alloy.

  • Short, randomly disturbed steel fibers in concrete increase tensile strength and ductility of concrete under direct tension. These improvements are results form crack arrest mechanisms of steel fibers in concrete. These mechanisms are theoretically considered in this study and verification on the adequancy of different spacing for predicting tensile strength of SFRC are assessed. Results indicate that better correlation exists between experimental result and the spacing concept which take into account the effect of boundaries as well as vibration on reorientation of steel fibers inside concrete. Also considered is the modeling of stress-crack opening relationships in post-peak region of SFRC under tension which bass its deviation on micromechanics of fiber pull-out. Satisfactoring results are observed between tests results and the prediction of the model.

  • The objective of this study is to develop analytical techniques of polymer impregnated concrete flexural members for its proper applications. crystalline methylmethacrylate(MMA) is chosen as a monomer of polymer impregnants, On the basis of members. fracture toughness, fracture energy , critical crack width, and tension softening relations near crack tip are formulated in terms of member depth, initial notch length and the flexural strength of normal concrete. The structural analysis rocedure and the finite element computer program developed in the study are applicable to evaluate elastic behavior, ultimate strength, and tension softening behavior of MMA type PIC structural members subject to various loading conditions. It is concluded that the developed structural analysis procedure and the finite element computer program are applicable to analysis and design of in-situ and precast PIC structural members.

  • Preplaced aggregate concrete in the building fields has recently been used in the partial repair works for damaged reinforced concrete structures, and polymer-modified mortars have been employed as grouting mortars for the preplaced aggregate concrete. The objective of this study is to clear the properties of polymer-modified grouting mortars. Polymer-modified mortars using a polystyrene acrylic(St/Ac) emulsion as grouting mortars for preplaced aggregate concrete are prepared with various mix proportions, and tested for flexural and compressive strengths, adhesion in tension. The flexural strength of emulsion-modified grouting mortars does not give much variation with increasing fly ash replacement for cement and sand-binder ratio. With increasing polymer-binder ratio, the flexural strength and adhesion in tension of St/Ac emulsion-modified grouting mortars increases, become nearly constant or reaches a maximum at a polymer-binder ratio of 5%. From the test results, St/Ac emulsion-modified grouting mortar with a polymer-binder ratio of 5%, a fly ash replacement of 10% for cement and sand-binder ratio of 1.0 is recommended as a grouting mortar for preplaced aggregate concrete.

  • In this paper a large scale direct tension test of plain concrete is represented. Two independently controlled actuators were used to ensure a homogeneous tensile field and to avoid secondary flexural stresses. Fracture energies evaluated by a classical prediction equation and this test are compared. The result indicated that the classical prediction equation is not adequate to predict the fracture energy of large sized specimens. From this test, it was determined that the fracture energy obtained from large scale direct tension tests is significantly higher than the one obtained in wedge splitting tests on laboratory sized specimens. But the tensile strength was about half the value determined from splitting tensile strength test with cylindrical specimens.

  • The use of higher strength materials with the strength methed of design has resulted in more slender member and shallower sections. For this reason, it is necessary to satisfy the requirements of serviceability even though the structural safety is the most important limit state. This paper is only concerned with the control of deflections in the serviceability. In this study, an analytical model is presented to predict the deflections of reinforced concrete beams to given loading and environmental conditions. This model is based on the finite element approach in which a finite element is generally divided into a number of stiffening effect due to cracking, creep and shrinkage. Comparisons are made with available measured deflections reported by others to assess the capability of the layered beam model. The calculated values of instantaneous and long-term deflection show good agreement with experimental results in the range of tension stiffening parameter $\beta$ between 2.5 and 3.0.

  • Tension tests were carried out to investigate the effect of the corrosion pattern on the ductility of tension bars extracted from a 26-year-old corroded reinforced concrete beam. The tensile behavior of corroded bars with different corrosion patterns was examined carefully, as were two non-corroded bars extracted from a 26-year-old control beam. The results show that corrosion leads to an increase in the ratio of the ultimate strength over the yield strength, but reduces the ultimate strain at maximum force of the reinforcement. Both the corrosion pattern and the corrosion intensity play an important role in the ductile properties. The asymmetrical distribution of the corrosion around the surface is a decisive factor, which can influence the ultimate strain at maximum force more seriously.
