  • This study is to develop Korean version of the 7 Learning Style Inventory(LSI) for IT major Students by systematic translation process and to test learning style of IT major University students. Translated and developed Korean version of LSI was verified of validity by comparing with existing V.A.K. learning style model. We can develop various tactics for 7 learning styles of students. Once the learning style of each student is confirmed, customized teaching for individual and team can be done more efficiently through teaching and learning strategies according to each learning style. Developed LSI was applied to the IT major students of two classes from Chungwoon University in Incheon. Results of LSI survey show that learning styles of 24 students out of 35 students from two classes are matched with V.A.K. learning styles of same students. It was 68.6% match in learning style, and shows that validity of 7 LSI. We need to elaborate Korean questionnaires of the LSI more, and extend and apply to the non-IT major students group.

  • In this paper I present the teaching strategies and methods of programming education based on the learning style which teachers can apply it to their class on condition that learning style can classify their students' preferences about learning strategies and methods. Recent related researches that prove the differences about student's specific abilities based on their learning styles could never help teachers design and do their teaching of programming in the class. Therefore this study about teaching strategies and methods of programming education will be necessarily. I propose the teaching strategies and methods of programming education based on the learning styles as a results of questionnaire to some professors of computer science education in university. Then, I design and do programming education in the experimental class in order to verify the availability of the proposed teaching strategies and methods. After teaching in class, I evaluate the statistical results of students' achievement test of programming. This study has some restrictions about small number of class and periods of teaching programming, but it will be a good case study about teaching strategies and methods of programming education based on the learning style.

  • The purpose of this study is to explore the possibility of changing students' learning styles and preferred teaching styles after applying the flipped learning method to engineering education. In order to achieve the purpose of this study, literature review and survey study were conducted. The subject of application of the flipped learning method is the 'Creative Problem Solving Methodology' class, which is one of the specialized liberal arts subjects operated for students of the college of engineering at D university in Gyeonggi-do. For the survey study, a tool adapted to the domestic conditions of Kolb's learning style test tool and Felder & Silverman's preferred teaching style test tool was used. In addition, pre- and post-tests were conducted to measure changes in the learning styles and preferred teaching styles. As a result of applying the flipped learning method for one semester, the learning style showed a tendency to change from an accommodative to a divergent learner. In addition, in the case of the preferred teaching styles, it was confirmed that there were statistically significant changes in the organization and the area of participation. Based on these findings, a proposal for a follow-up study was presented.

  • Learning styles affect how students access and handle their task, so it is very important to understand how they study, when planning teaching-learning process, to enhance their potential to the maximum. In addition, in order to improve the quality of gifted education, there is a need to examine the curriculum and teaching-learning process which reflect learner characteristics. In this study, gifted student's preferred learning styles are investigated using questionnaires and learning style inventory. Also by analyzing the characteristics of the learners, it is hoped to get parents and teachers to understand the gifted who have various talents, and to support teaching programs for the gifted in order to develop their potential. This study shows that there are differences in the studying style between the gifted child and the average child. Namely, learner's physical and psychological environment can affect learning styles. Also there is a difference between the studying style which the gifted students prefer and the teaching style which teachers use most frequently. Programs for the gifted should be planned through better understanding of the characteristics of the learners.

  • The purpose of this study was to investigate relations between middle school science teachers' perception of students' learning styles and their teaching style. Data were collected by in-depth individual interviews with 20 experienced science teachers (14 years of teaching experience in average). Results indicated four categories of the relations: i.e. teachers implemented their teaching style (1) matching students' learning styles, (2) supplementing students' insufficient learning styles, (3) teacher-centered, but matching the diverse students' learning styles, and (4) based on their values and convictions. In general, teaching styles of the teachers did not match with their perceptions of students' learning styles. Instead, their teaching styles seemed to be more affected by their personal values and convictions.

  • It is important to concern about individual difference on every subject and every class. How can we know the individual difference? It is helpful for that to find out students' math learning style and learning type. In this paper, I conducted a survey to look for math learning style and math learning type of 4th, 5th and 6th grade students, and analyzed those data. The research findings are summarized as follows; First, 4th, 5th and 6th grade students prefer the visual learning style to the verbal style, and they have more wholistic tendency than analytical tendency in the domain of the cognitive learning style. Second, they prefer the authoritative and goal-oriented learning style to the practical and recreational learning style, and they have more interior-oriented than exterior-oriented in the domain of affective learning style. Third, the representative math learning type of 4th, 5th and 6th grade students is visual/holistic/authoritative and goal-oriented/interior-oriented. The math learning styles of students have a lot of influence on their learning, so that an appropriate teaching method for each student could arouse a maximum effect in the math study.
