The purpose of this study was to verity the effect of project method on the task performance ability in development of a solar-tracking-control-system of specialized high school. In order to carry out this study, 2 classes of technical high school in Jeonbuk are chosen as experimental and control groups. The experimental group was taught by project method and the control group was taught by traditional instruction. Project method was designed by 4 stages-selection of goal, planning, implementation and evaluation. According to these stages, experimental group's students carried out the project that developing solar tracking control system in solar generation. The results of this study are as follows; the project method was more effective than the traditional instruction in planning ability for task performance and implementation ability, subordinates of task performance ability. However, information gathering ability and evaluation ability on task performance, others in subordinates, it is not clear that the project method is more effective.

Purpose: This study was done to examine effects of task performance style, communication ability and their interaction on problem-solving ability and nursing competency of nursing students participating in a nursing management practicum. Methods: The study was a non-equivalent control group non-synchronized design. Participants were 56 fourth year nursing students (25 in the cooperative task group and 31 in the individual task group) and data were collected from March to September 2010. Additionally, two groups were classified based on communication ability of students and four groups were classified by their task performance style and communication ability. Problem-solving ability and nursing competency were measured pre- and post-test and compared between groups. Data were analyzed using SPSS Windows 17.0 program. Results: Neither problem-solving ability and nursing competency were statistically significantly different according to task performance style. Nursing competency was statistically significantly higher in the high communication group compared to the low communication group. Problem-solving ability was significantly different among the four groups classified by task performance style and communication ability. Conclusion: Nursing educators may need to improve students' communication ability to improve nursing competency and also assign different tasks based on communication ability of nursing students to improve problem-solving ability.

PURPOSE: The purpose of this study was to determine the efficacy of dual-task action observation training (AOT) and single-task AOT related with daily living task on walking ability and ADL performance in chronic stroke patients. METHODS: Twenty-seven chronic stroke subjects were included in the study. They were randomly assigned to three task categorieds as follows: whole dual-task AOT or partial dual-task AOT or single-task AOT rehabilitation. Whole dual-task AOT observed the movement at once and partial dual-task AOT observed the movement divided into 4 parts related functional gait and activities of daily living task for 2 minutes 30 seconds. Single-task AOT observed the movement related functional gait for 2 minutes 30 seconds. Both groups had physical training session for 12 minutes 30 seconds. The study was conducted for four weeks, with three training sessions a week, for twelve weeks. All subjects were evaluated for their walking ability and activities of daily living through devices, 10m walking test (10MWT), dynamic gait index (DGI), and Korea-Modified Barthel Index (K-MBI). RESULTS: A significant improvement of walking ability and ADL performance happened among dual-task AOT subjects, compared with a single-task AOT subjects, during the 4-weeks course treatment. The results of the study showed statistically significant differences in 10MWT (p<0.05) and DGI (p<0.05), and K-MBI (p<0.05). CONCLUSION: Our results indicated that dual-task AOT has a positive additional impact on recovery of walking ability and ADL performance in chronic stroke patients.
This study was conducted to identify the relationship between the dual task performance and driving behavior of the elderly driver in order to identify whether the dual task can be utilized as a test to screen the driving ability of the elderly driver. We surveyed general information and driving-related information for 32 normal elderly drivers, and evaluated Y-DuCog(Yonsei-Dual task Cognitive screening) and the K-DBQ (Korean-Driving Behavior Questionnaire). As a result of the study, the performance of the dual task using the pegboard task and the animal name speaking showed a significant correlation with the score of the violation domain of K-DBQ. With this study, it was possible to confirm the possibility as a test for discrimination of driving ability.
Prior studies were limited in the comparison of false belief tasks with desire tasks due to lack of consideration of level of executive functions. To compensate for this, executive functions were included in new preference-related and game-related tasks of conflicting desire. These tasks were administered to 246 preschoolers ranging from 2.5 to 4 years of age. Statistical analysis was by one-way ANOVA and repeated measures ANOVA. Results showed significant main effects depending on age and task type. Younger children lacked ability of executive function, such as inhibition and working memory. Older preschoolers averaged better scores on task performance, showing that it is difficult for younger children to control their own desires and select the contradicted view.

The purposes of this study were to investigate the intercorrelations among various motivational patterns and learning strategies and to examine the differences in motivation and strategy usage in terms of students' science achievement level, gender, and grade. A questionnaire on achievement goal, self-efficacy, self-concept of ability, expectancy, value, causal attributions, and learning strategies was administered to 360 junior high/high school students (178 males, 182 females). Students who adopted performance-oriented goal tended not to be task oriented. Task-oriented students had high levels of self-efficacy, high self-concept of ability, and expectancies for future performance in science. They also valued science and attributed thier failures to the lack of effort. However, performance-oriented students evaluated their ability negatively, did not value science, and attributed thier failures to uncontrollable causes. With respect to learning strategy, task-oriented students tended to use deep-level strategy, whereas performance-oriented students tended to use surface-level strategy and not to use deep-level strategy. High-achieving students, boys, and junior high school students were more task-oriented, evaluated their ability more positively, and valued science more than low-achieving students, girls, and high school students, respectively. High-achieving students and boys also used deep-level strategy more than each of their counterparts. However, no significant difference in learning strategy was found between junior high school students and high school students. Educational implications of these findings are discussed.

PURPOSE: This study compared cognitive task-directed functional motor control ability for reaching and kicking movements in younger and older adults. METHODS: Subjects were divided into two groups of younger and older adults, with 13 subjects in each group. Subjects were required to perform a dual task combining a functional movement and cognitive component. The task consisted of reaching and kicking movements. Participants performed indicated movements when a target appeared on a monitor. The target randomly appeared on the monitor every 10 seconds. The total performance time (TPT), joint angular velocity (JAV), and muscle activation time were used to evaluate motor control ability. RESULTS: There were significant differences in all evaluation factors in a comparison of younger and older adults (p<.05). TPT was significantly shorter in older adults, and JAV and muscle activation time were significantly slower than that in the younger adult group. Although the results for older adults were within the normal range for functional assessment, their motor control abilities were significantly worse for cognitive tasks compared with those of younger adults. CONCLUSION: The results of this study indicated that a motor control assessment tool using a cognitive task would be helpful in assessment of motor control ability in healthy older adults.
This study investigated the effects on task performance of dyad collaboration based on young children's cognitive and social ability. The 108 5-year-old subjects were assigned to a collaborative experimental group, a comparison group working individually in sorting, writing, and making a puzzle, or a control group. Data from before and after measurements on sorting and perspective taking tasks were analyzed by t-test and ANOVA. Results showed that (1) Children working in dyad collaboration obtained significantly more improvement in their performance on both tasks than those working individually. (2) Dyads composed of a child with high level social skill but low level intelligence and a child with low levels of both showed most improvement in performance on the perspective taking task.
With the advent of communication technologies including electronic collaborative tools and conferencing systems provided over the Internet, virtual collaboration is becoming increasingly common in organizations. Virtual collaboration refers to an environment in which the people working together are interdependent in their tasks, share responsibility for outcomes, are geographically dispersed, and rely on mediated rather than face-to face, communication to produce an outcome. Research suggests that new sets of individual skill, knowledge, and ability (SKAs) are required to perform effectively in today's virtualized workplace, which is labeled as individual virtual competence. It is also argued that use of online social networking sites may influence not only individuals' daily lives but also their capability to manage their work-related relationships in organizations, which in turn leads to better performance. The existing research regarding (1) the relationship between virtual competence and task performance and (2) the relationship between online networking and task performance has been conducted based on different theoretical perspectives so that little is known about how online social networking and virtual competence interplay to predict individuals' task performance. To fill this gap, this study raises the following research questions: (1) What is the individual virtual competence required for better adjustment to the virtual collaboration environment? (2) How does online networking via diverse social network service sites influence individuals' task performance in organizations? (3) How do the joint effects of individual virtual competence and online networking influence task performance? To address these research questions, we first draw on the prior literature and derive four dimensions of individual virtual competence that are related with an individual's self-concept, knowledge and ability. Computer self-efficacy is defined as the extent to which an individual beliefs in his or her ability to use computer technology broadly. Remotework self-efficacy is defined as the extent to which an individual beliefs in his or her ability to work and perform joint tasks with others in virtual settings. Virtual media skill is defined as the degree of confidence of individuals to function in their work role without face-to-face interactions. Virtual social skill is an individual's skill level in using technologies to communicate in virtual settings to their full potential. It should be noted that the concept of virtual social skill is different from the self-efficacy and captures an individual's cognition-based ability to build social relationships with others in virtual settings. Next, we discuss how online networking influences both individual virtual competence and task performance based on the social network theory and the social learning theory. We argue that online networking may enhance individuals' capability in expanding their social networks with low costs. We also argue that online networking may enable individuals to learn the necessary skills regarding how they use technological functions, communicate with others, and share information and make social relations using the technical functions provided by electronic media, consequently increasing individual virtual competence. To examine the relationships among online networking, virtual competence, and task performance, we developed research models (the mediation, interaction, and additive models, respectively) by integrating the social network theory and the social learning theory. Using data from 112 employees of a virtualized company, we tested the proposed research models. The results of analysis partly support the mediation model in that online social networking positively influences individuals' computer self-efficacy, virtual social skill, and virtual media skill, which are key predictors of individuals' task performance. Furthermore, the results of the analysis partly support the interaction model in that the level of remotework self-efficacy moderates the relationship between online social networking and task performance. The results paint a picture of people adjusting to virtual collaboration that constrains and enables their task performance. This study contributes to research and practice. First, we suggest a shift of research focus to the individual level when examining virtual phenomena and theorize that online social networking can enhance individual virtual competence in some aspects. Second, we replicate and advance the prior competence literature by linking each component of virtual competence and objective task performance. The results of this study provide useful insights into how human resource responsibilities assess employees' weakness and strength when they organize virtualized groups or projects. Furthermore, it provides managers with insights into the kinds of development or training programs that they can engage in with their employees to advance their ability to undertake virtual work.
This study aims to verity effects of project method on the girl students' task performance ability in the unit of 'Energy and Transportation Technology' of Technology' Home Economics Subject in High schools. The task performance ability are composed of collecting information, performing achievement, planning of solving the task, and performance evaluation. The results of this research conducted for girl students of two classes of H high school located in Gyeong-gi Province are as follows: First, the group with the project method was more effective, in general, in learning ability of performing the tasks of 'Energy and Transportation Technology' than the group with traditional teaching. Second, the group with the project method was more effective than the group with traditional teaching in ability of task performance of subordinate elements of performing tasks in the unit of 'Energy and Transportation Technology', such as collecting information and performing achievement. However, in the fields of another subordinate elements of planning of solving the task and performing evaluation, the degree of effectiveness was unknown. After examining the results of all the cases, it was found that project method was more effective than the traditional teaching method in increasing the performing task abilities of the students in the lesson of 'Energy and Transportation Technology' in high schools.
