  • Two beam/column elements in order to analyze the geometric nonlinear plane framed structures including the effects of transverse shear deformation and bending stretching coupling are developed. In the case of the first element (finite segment method), tangent stiffness matrix are derived by directly integrating the equilibrium equations whereas in the case of the second element (finite element method) elastic and geometric stiffness matrices are calculated by using the hermitian polynomials including shear deformation effect as the shape function. Both elements possess the usual six degree of freedoms. Numerical results are presented for the selected test problems which demonstrate that both elements represent reliable and highly accurate tools.

  • In this paper, a Microstrip antenna for wireless LAN is designed in HyperLAN 5GHz. The IEEE 802.11a have allocated HyperLAN band. We proposed CPW-fed antenna structure for compact antenna. This structure shows that a ground plane and a patch plane are existed at one layer. The proposed antenna is designed on FR-4 substrate with a relative dielectric constant 4.3, thickness of 1.5mm and tangent loss 0.02. The designed antenna shows that VSWR is below 2 and has good return loss below -10dB over the 5.725~5.825GHz bandwidth with HyperLAN.

  • The notion of rectifying curve in the Euclidean space is introduced by Chen as a curve whose position vector always lies in its rectifying plane spanned by the tangent and the binormal vector field t and $n_2$ of the curve, [1]. In this study, we have obtained some characterizations of semi-real spatial quaternionic rectifying curves in $\mathbb{R}^3_1$. Moreover, by the aid of these characterizations, we have investigated semi real quaternionic rectifying curves in semi-quaternionic space $\mathbb{Q}_v$.

  • It is well-known that the area of parabolic region between a parabola and any chord $P_1P_2$ on the parabola is four thirds of the area of triangle ${\Delta}P_1P_2P$. Here we denote by P the point on the parabola where the tangent is parallel to the chord $P_1P_2$. In the previous works, the first and third authors of the present paper proved that this property is a characteristic one of parabolas. In this paper, with respect to triangles ${\Delta}P_1P_2PQ$ where Q is the intersection point of two tangents to X at $P_1$ and $P_2$ we establish some characterization theorems for parabolas.

  • A study on the behaviour of fibre reinforced concrete deep beams with and without web openings is carried out using nonlinear finite element analysis. Eight node isoparametric plane stress elements are employed to model the fibre reinforced concrete materials. Steel bars are treated using a compatible three node truss elements. The constitutive equations for fibre reinforced concrete materials take into account the softening effect of co-existing shear strains. Element stiffness at each step is formulated based on the tangent modulus at the current level of principal strains. Transformation between principal directions and global coordinate system is imposed. Comparison of analytical results with experimental values indicates reasonably good agreement. The proposed numerical model can be used to study the behaviour of this composite structures of practically any geometries.

  • This paper presents d new algorithm to compute the offlet curve of a given planar parametric curve. We reduce the problem of computing an offset curve to that of intersecting a surface to a paraboloid. Given an input curve C(t)=(x(t), y(t))∈R², the corresponding surface D/sub c(t)/ is constructed symbolically as the envelope surface of a one-parameter family of tangent planes of the paraboloid Q:z=x²+y²along a lifted curve C(t)=(x(t), y(t), x(t)²+y(t)²∈Q. Given an offset distance d∈R, the offset curve C/sub d/(t) is obtained by the projection of the intersection curve of D/sub c(t)/ and a paraboloid Q:z=x²+y²-d² into the xy-plane.

  • An eccentric degenerated shell element with geometric non-linearity for the precise and efficient analysis of stiffened shell structures is developed. To deal with the eccentricity, we define the e ccentric shell and the master shell that constitute one combined shell. It is assumed that the sections remain plane after deformation. The internal force vector and the tangent stiffness matrix based on the virtual work principle in the natural coordinate system are derived. To enhance the robustness of the element, assumed strain method for transverse shear and membrane strains is used. Through numerical experiments the effectiveness of the proposed element is demonstrated.

  • In this paper, we propose the modeling of the power/ground plane which includes complex dielectric permittivity and loss tangent for the power/ground coupled noise. In order to estimate the effects of the dielectric substrate for the coupled noise, we used full-wave simulators, HFSS(High Frequency Structure Simulation) and MWS(MicroWave Studio). The simulated results for the commercial substrates are compared with the measured values. TLM(Transmission Line Method) was used for the calculation of power plane impedance using Debye model which depicts the dielectric loss of PCB. Finally, impedance from proposed circuit model showed very good coincidence to the measured data.

  • An improved stability design method for beam-columns of plane frames is proposed based on system buckling analysis and second-order elastic analysis. For this, the tangent stiffness matrix of beam-column elements is first derived using stability functions and a procedure for evaluating effective buckling lengths is reviewed using elastic system buckling analysis. And then the second-order analysis procedure is presented considering $P-\Delta$ effects and is compared with the closed-form solution through numerical examples. Design examples showing the validity of the proposed method we presented and their numerical results are compared with those obtained from the conventional stability design methods. Finally some useful conclusions are drawn.
