Basic governing equations for the Active Magnetic Bearing system are derived. Characteristic difference between PD and PID controllers are studied. It is shown that I-control action is able to minimize the steady state error and increase the stiffness in low frequency range.

Various numerical methods for the two dimensional shallow water equations have been applied to the problems of flood routing, tidal circulation, storm surges, and atmospheric circulation. These methods are often based on the Alternating Direction Implicity(ADI) method. However, the ADI method results in inaccuracies for large time steps when dealing with a complex geometry or bathymetry. Since this method reduces the performance considerably, a fully implicit method developed by Wilders et al. (1998) is used to improve the accuracy for a large time step. Finite Difference Methods are defined on a rectangular grid. Two drawbacks of this type of grid are that grid refinement is not possibile locally and that the physical boundary is sometimes poorly represented by the numerical model boundary. Because of the second deficiency several purely numerical boundary effects can be involved. A boundary fitted curvilinear coordinate transformation is used to reduce these difficulties. It the curvilinear coordinate transformation is used to reduce these difficulties. If the coordinate transformation is orthogonal then the transformed shallow water equations are similar to the original equations. Therefore, an orthogonal coorinate transformation is used for defining coordinate system. A multigrid (MG) method is widely used to accelerate the convergence in the numerical methods. In this study, a technique using a MG method is proposed to reduce the computing time and to improve the accuracy for the orthogonal to reduce the computing time and to improve the accuracy for the orthogonal grid generation and the solutions of the shallow water equations.
Unlike other countries, Korea uses various kinds of wall-paper as finishing material. Conventional wall-paper consists of paper and vinyl, and petrochemical ink is used for the decoration of the surface. Adhesive is used to paste the wall with the wall-paper, which emit substantial amounts of VOCs and formaldehyde. In this study, VOCs characteristics emitted from specimens made of concrete, mortar, gypsum board and wall-paper were investigated using small chamber method. Moreover, concentration and emission factor of BTEX(Benzene, Toluene, Ethylbenzene, m,p,o-Xylene) and TVOC were investigated, and concentration and emission factor decay were estimated. As a result of the prediction, both time-dependent concentration decay and cumulative concentration can be converted into the logarithmic scale. Furthermore, prediction equations were developed from the experimental results under accurately controlled experimental conditions. Therefore, there may be difference if the estimated equations are directly applied to real buildings. Further research should be done on the generalization of the developed prediction equations.
This article deals with implementation of a high-order finite difference scheme for numerical solution of the incompressible Navier-Stokes equations on curvilinear grids. The numerical scheme is based on pseudo-compressibility approach. A fifth-order upwind compact scheme is used to approximate the inviscid fluxes while the discretization of metric and viscous terms is accomplished using sixth-order central compact scheme. An implicit Euler method is used for discretization of the pseudo-time derivative to obtain the steady-state solution. The resulting block tridiagonal matrix system is solved by approximate factorization based alternating direction implicit scheme (AF-ADI) which consists of an alternate sweep in each direction for every pseudo-time step. The convergence and efficiency of the method are evaluated by solving some 2D benchmark problems. Finally, computed results are compared with numerical results in the literature and a good agreement is observed.

The aim of this paper is to analyze the conjugate problems of heat conduction in solid walls coupled with laminar free convection flow adjacent to a vertical flat plate under boundary layer approximation. Using the similarity transformations the governing boundary layer equations for momentum and energy are reduced to a system of partial differential equations and then solved numerically using Finite Difference Method(FDM) known as the Keller-box scheme. Computed solutions to the governing equations are obtained for a wide range of non-dimensional parameters that are present in this problem, namely the coupling parameter P. the Prandtl number Pr and the heat generation parameter Q. The variations of the local heat transfer rate as well as the interface temperature and the friction along the plate and typical velocity and temperature profiles in the boundary layer are shown graphically. Numerical solutions have been consider for the Prandtl number Pr=0.70
This study is aimed to predict the configuration and tension of a towing cable of a side-scan sonar which plays an important role in developing ocean resources. The governing equations of 3-D static equilibrium equations for a flexible cable are derived and solved using a finite difference method. The forces considered in this paper are effective weights, drag forces due to currents and ship moving, and the tension at both ends of the towing cable. The governing equations are non-linear, so an iteration method is applied to solve the equation. A case study is carried out for several different conditions. The result will be useful for predicting the location of a side-scan sonar and to design the towing system.
We have derived the general transfer equation for governing the continuity, energy transfer, mass and momentum transfer, and turbulent energy dissipation rate within the fire compartment which has the 800t fire source at the center of the floor. The governing transfer equations have been descretized using the finite volume approach and numerically experimented under the SIMPLE algorithm. In order for the SIMPLE algorithm approach to be physically reliable, the test results are compared with those of Morita's SOR Method using Conjugate Residual Method and found to be close to physical values though the computational convergence time still remains to be upgraded. The treatment of source terms in the system of finite difference equations has been critical in order to converge the governing equations within the appropriate time steps. The criteria of convergence allowance for the whole domain have been checked and the sudden change of the non-linear effects from the source term have been avoided. The criteria has been allowed to be for 5$\times$10$^{-5}$ .
With the help of the coincidence degree and the related continuation theorem, we explore the existence of at least two periodic solutions of a discrete time non-autonomous ratio-dependent predator-prey system with control. Some easily verifiable sufficient criteria are established for the existence of at least two positive periodic solutions.

This paper describes the simulation approaches employed for a vector control system of induction motor drive using SIMNON for windows program. SIMNON program tool can solve differential and difference equations for nonlinear dynamical control system. One powerful feature is its ability of allowing integration of individual program modules after each individual module is programed and tested independently. This particular feature is exploited here for an SVPWM inverter drive by real-time modeling and simulation. The suggested programs are provided a simple and complete simulation for induction motor vector drive system.
This paper presents a new algorithm for position control of the BALL-HOOP system driven by th D.C. servo motor-through the micro computer simulation. The Stale Feed back + PID control algorithm is proposed. This algorithm performs that the settling time is faster and overshoot is decreased more remarkably than the PID and the State Feedback algorithm alone. In this simulation the difference equations are used to calculate the output of the control system.
