  • We construct a family of hyperbolic 3-manifolds by pairwise identifications of faces in the boundary of certain polyhedral 3-balls and prove that all these manifolds are cyclic branched coverings of the 3-sphere over certain family of links with two components. These extend some results from [5] and [10] concerning with the branched coverings of the whitehead link.

  • The alternative method for symmetric configuration in optical link consisted of dispersion management and optical phase conjugation for compensating of the distorted optical signals due to chromatic dispersion and nonlinear effects of standard single mode fiber is proposed. The symmetric configuration means number of fiber spans, dispersion distribution in former half section and latter half section, etc should be symmetrical about optical phase conjugator. In dispersion-managed proposed in this research, optical phase conjugator is located after former half section consisted of 6 fiber spans and before latter half section of 14 fiber spans, and the averaged residual dispersion per span (RDPS) of each half section are consistence. The compensation effects of the distorted signals in the proposed link is analyzed by comparing with the results obtained in dispersion-managed link with the unequally averaged RDPS of each half section. From the simulation results, it is confirmed that RDPS deviation between adjacent fiber span has a grater effect on the compensation than the equivalent of the averaged RDPS.

  • The ration of payload to weight of industrial robot amounts form 1:10 to 1:30. Compared with man who have a ration of 3:1, it is very low. One of the goals for the next generation of robots will be a ration. This might be possible only by developing lightweight robots. When two-link flexible arm is rotated about an joint axis, transverse vibration may occur. In this paper, vibration dynamics of flexible arm is modeled by using Bernoulli-Euler beam theory and Lagrange equation. Using the fact that matrix $\dot{D}-2C$ is skew symmetric, new controllers which have a simplified structure with less computational burden is proposed by using Lyapunov stability theory. We propose deterministic and adaptive control laws for two link flexible arm, and the validity of the proposed control scheme is shown in computer simulation for two-link flexible arm.

  • In the case of seismic-resistant composite dual moment resisting and eccentrically braced frames, the current design practice is to avoid the disposition of shear connectors in the expected plastic zones, and consequently to consider a symmetric moment or shear plastic hinges, which occur only in the steel beam or link. Even without connectors, the real behavior of the hinge may be different from the symmetric assumption since the reinforced concrete slab is connected to the steel element close to the hinge locations, and also due to contact friction between the concrete slab and the steel element. At a larger level, the structural response in the case of important seismic motions depends directly on the elasto-plastic behavior of elements and hinges. The numerical investigation presented in this study summarizes the results of elasto-plastic analyses of several steel frames, considering the interaction of the steel beam with the concrete slab. Several parameters, such as the inter-story drift, plastic rotation requirements and behavior factors q were monitored. In order to obtain accurate results, adequate models of plastic hinges are proposed for both the composite short link and composite reduced beam sections.

  • Monitoring processor in a circuit switched network is considered. Monitoring processor monitors communication links offers a grade of service in each link to controller. Such an information is useful for an effective maintenance of system. Two links with asymmetric system parameters and multi-symmetric links are respectively considered. Each links is to be an independent M /M/ 1/ 1/ type. Markov modeling technique is used to represent a model of monitoring processor with FCFS steering protocol. Performance measures considered are ratio of monitored jobs in each link, availability of minitoring processor and throughput of virtual processor in each link. The value of the performance meausres are compared with existing and simulation results.

  • In this paper, we present two algorithms for efficiently aggregating link state information needed for quality-of-service (QoS) routing. In these algorithms, each edge node in a group is mapped onto a node of a shufflenet or a node of a de Bruijn graph. By this mapping, the number of links for which state information is maintained becomes aN (a is an integer, N is the number of edge nodes) which is significantly smaller than N2 in the full-mesh approach. Our algorithms also can support asymmetric link state parameters which are common in practice, while many previous algorithms such as the spanning tree approach can be applied only to networks with symmetric link state parameters. Experimental results show that the performance of our shufflenet algorithm is close to that of the full-mesh approach in terms of the accuracy of bandwidth and delay information, with only a much smaller amount of information. On the other hand, although it is not as good as the shufflenet approach, the de Bruijn algorithm also performs far better than the star approach which is one of the most widely accepted schemes. The de Bruijn algorithm needs smaller computational complexity than most previous algorithms for asymmetric networks, including the shufflenet algorithm.

  • In-band full-duplex (IBFD) wireless communication supports symmetric dual transmission between two nodes and asymmetric dual transmission among three nodes, which allows improved throughput for distributed IBFD wireless networks. However, inter-node interference (INI) can affect desired packet reception in the downlink of three-node topology. The current Half-duplex (HD) medium access control (MAC) mechanism RTS/CTS is unable to establish an asymmetric dual link and consequently to suppress INI. In this paper, we propose a medium access control mechanism for use in distributed IBFD wireless networks, FD-DMAC (Full-Duplex Distributed MAC). In this approach, communication nodes only require single channel access to establish symmetric or asymmetric dual link, and we fully consider the two transmission modes of asymmetric dual link. Through FD-DMAC medium access, the neighbors of communication nodes can clearly know network transmission status, which will provide other opportunities of asymmetric IBFD dual communication and solve hidden node problem. Additionally, we leverage FD-DMAC to transmit received power information. This approach can assist communication nodes to adjust transmit powers and suppress INI. Finally, we give a theoretical analysis of network performance using a discrete-time Markov model. The numerical results show that FD-DMAC achieves a significant improvement over RTS/CTS in terms of throughput and delay.

  • The length of optical fiber in dispersion-managed link combined with optical phase conjugation to compensate for signal distortion caused by chromatic dispersion and nonlinear Kerr effect is a major factor determining the compensation effectiveness. The dispersion-managed link consists of several fiber spans in which standard single mode fiber and dispersion compensating fiber are arranged. In this paper, the compensation effect in the link that changes residual dispersion per span only by adjusting the length of one type of optical fiber, which is different in the first half link and the second half link with respect to optical phase conjugator (OPC), has been investigated. It was confirmed that the best compensation for 960 Gb/s wavelength division multiplexed signal could be obtained in the dispersion-managed link, in which the cumulative dispersion profile is symmetric around the OPC, and the cumulative dispersion amount is all positive in the first half, and all the cumulative dispersion amount is distributed negatively in the second half.

  • This paper deals with analysis of articulated robot manipulator used for Arc welding and Material handling. Compared with present robot of which weight holding capacity is 6kg, this robot shows wider and symmetric working range for it's serial type mechanism. The link length is determined to have widest working range by using optimal simulation. To reduce body's weight, small AC servo motor is adopted and driving peak torque exerted at each joint is reduced by using dynamic analysis. So it is possible to reduce body's weight by 40% compared with the same class's robot and get wider working range. And by adopting modular design concept, each axis is designed to be changed easily for user's special need and repair.

  • A configuration scheme of optical link effectively compensating chromatic dispersion and nonlinear effects accumulated in optical link with single mode fibers (SMFs) is proposed. The proposed optical link configuration consist of optical phase conjugator (OPC) placed at middle of total transmission length and inline dispersion management (DM) as a role of compensating cumulated in each optical repeater of SMF by dispersion compensating fiber (DCF). Net residual dispersion (NRD) of this optical link is designed to be controlled through precompensation and postcompensating. The precompensation and postcompensation are designed to be determined by DCF after transmitter and before receiver, respectively. It is confirmed that optical link configuration with symmetric dispersion map with respect to OPC, which is implemented by controlling NRD through both precompensation and postcompensation, is better to be effective and adaptive than other configuration with NRD controlled by only precompensation or postcompensation.
