  • The surface temperature of a combustor such as an aircraft engine is one of the important measuring factors related to the combustion performance. However, a conventional temperature measurement technique have a large measurement error due to a bad environment such as a combustion flame, vibration, and dust. In order to solve this problem, a technology has been developed which can measure the surface temperature of the combustor in real time using the wavelength change or attenuation time change according to the temperature of the phosphor. In this study, we developed a technique that can measure surface temperature of scram-jet combustor using phosphor thermometry. The calibration curve was obtained according to the temperature from $200^{\circ}C$ to $800^{\circ}C$ in the calibrated temperature chamber. So, we confirmed that phosphor thermometry can be used for measuring surface temperature of scram-jet combustor.

  • To examine possibilities to make use of woodceramics for the lower material of hot-floored ondol boards, woodceramics made from sawdust board with Pinus densiflora, put them in a wood frame and concrete block and heated them sending an electric current, and measured changes in surface temperature of a laminated floor board and a plywood floor board. As the sending an electric current to time passed, their surface temperature increased rapidly up to 20 minutes, and then gradually ascended. In terms of the surface temperature in the wood frame, the beginning temperature of a plywood floor board was higher than that of laminated floor one; however, as time passed, a laminated floor board's temperature rose, and after 60 minutes, it showed similar to the temperature of a floor board of lamination. On the other hand, the surface temperature in a concrete block showed that the laminated floor board was higher than the plywood floor board in both early and 60-minute later temperatures. With the lapse of time after switching off, the surface temperature of floor boards slowly dwindled up to 9 minutes, and from that time on, began to drop sharply. In terms of the descent speed of surface temperature, when woodceramics' surface temperature was adjusted at $70^{\circ}C$, the laminated floor board was the highest; when it was at $80^{\circ}C$, the plywood floor board was the highest, resulting in rapid descent speed of heat.

  • Thermoforming is one of the most versatile and economical processes available for the manufacturing polymer products. The drawback of thermoforming is difficult to get uniform thickness of final products. For the distribution of thickness strongly depends on the temperature distribution of sheet, the adjustment of heater power is very important In this paper, an optimization study for getting uniform temperature distribution was carried out using dual optimization steps. At first, the steady state optimal distribution of heater power is searched by numerical optimization to get uniform temperature of sheet surface. In the second step, time-dependent optimal heater inputs have been found out to decrease the temperature difference through the direction of thickness using Rseponse Surface Method and D-optimal method. The optimization results show that the time-dependent optimal heater power distribution gives acceptable uniform sheet temperature in the field of forming temperature..

  • Temperature distribution and heating characteristic of the panel heater for infrared heating have been investigated. The temperature variation with time is firstly measured with the thermocouple to figure out the response time of the heater to the power input. The heater reaches faster to the steady state in comparison to the ceramic heater. The infrared thermal imaging system is utilized to investigate the temperature distribution over the heater surface. The measured thermal images show that the thermal boundary layer induced by the free convection near the heater surface affects the temperature distribution on the surface. The images also show the fairly good uniformity of the temperature distribution in the core region of the surface.

  • Effects of high-temperature slurry were investigated on the chemical mechanical polishing (CMP) performance of tetra-ethyl ortho-silicate (TEOS) film with silica and ceria slurries by the surface analysis of X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS). The pH showed a slight tendency to decrease with increasing slurry temperature, which means that the hydroxyl $(OH^-)$ groups increased in slurry as the slurry temperature increased and then they diffused into the TEOS film. The surface of TEOS film became hydro-carbonated by the diffused hydroxyl groups. The hydro-carbonated surface of TEOS film could be removed more easily. Consequently, the removal rate of TEOS film improved dramatically with increasing slurry temperature.

  • The surface temperature at the interface of bodies in a sliding contact is one of the most important factors influencing the behavior of machine components. So the calculation of the surface temperature at a sliding contact interface has long been an interesting and important subject for tribologist. In this study to verify estimation of temperature rising, calculated temperatures were compared with measured temperatures. It is possible to calculate bulk and flash temperature.

  • An experimental study was performed to investigate the effect of surface temperature mismatch on measurements of skin friction using a plug-type skin friction gage mounted on the side wall of a supersonic wind tunnel. The freestream Mach number was 2.4 and Reynolds number per meter was $5.25 {\times}10^7$ with total pressure of 50 psi and total temperature of 275K. Temperature mismatch between the gage surface and surrounding wall surface was generated by hot water injection using the active temperature control system. Results of the tests showed that the temperature mismatch made sizable effects on the measurements of skin friction.

  • Temperature uniformity of a wafer in a semiconductor process is a very important factor that determines the overall yield. Therefore, it is very important to confirm the temperature characteristics of the chuck surface on which the wafer is lifted. The temperature characteristics of the chuck depend on the external heat source, the shape of the cooling channel inside the chuck, the material on the chuck surface, and so on. In this study, CFD confirms the change of temperature characteristics according to the stacking order of ceramic materials on the chuck surface, and suggests the best lamination method.

  • Recently, interest in urban temperature change and ground surface temperature change has been increasing due to weather phenomenon due to global warming, heat island phenomenon caused by urbanization in urban areas. In Korea, weather data such as temperature and precipitation have been collected since 1904. In recent years, there are 96 ASOS stations and 494 AWS weather observation stations. However, in the case of terrestrial networks, terrestrial meteorological data except measurement points are predicted through interpolation because they provide point data for each installation point. In this study, to improve the resolution of ground surface temperature measurement, the surface temperature using satellite image was calculated and its applicability was analyzed. For this purpose, the satellite images of Landsat 8 OLI TIRS were obtained for Seoul Metropolitan City by seasons and transformed to surface temperature by applying NASA equation to the thermal bands. The ground measurement data was based on the temperature data measured by AWS. Since the AWS temperature data is station based point data, interpolation is performed by Kriging interpolation method for comparison with Landsat image. As a result of comparing the satellite image base surface temperature with the AWS temperature data, the temperature difference according to the season was calculated as fall, winter, summer, based on the RMSE value, Spring, in order of applicability of Landsat satellite image. The use of that attribute and AWS support starts at $2.11^{\circ}C$ and RMSE ${\pm}3.84^{\circ}C$, which reflects information from the extended NASA.

  • This study carried out to understand the thermal characteristics of various surface material which compose the city through the observation in the summer. To examine passive cooling effect of planting of building, it is arranged four different materials that is natural grass, grass block, concrete slab and artificial grass. The results of this study are as follows; (1) Natural grass and grass block show the lower surface temperature because of the structures of leaf can do more thermal dissipation effectively. (2) There is little surface temperature between artificial grass and concrete. But there is little high surface temperature difference between natural grass and concrete because of latent heat effect. (3) The concrete can play a role of the tropical nights phenomenon as high heat capacity of concrete compare with other materials. (4) It is nearly same color in artificial grass and natural grass but there is large difference between natural grass and artificial grass at albedo. There is different albedo in near infrared ray range. (5) A short wave radiation gives more effect at the globe temperature than long wave radiation. (6) The artificial turf protected the slab surface temperature increase in spite of thin and low albedo materials.
