THE INFLUENCE OF THE VITAL BLEACHING AGENTS ON TRANSLUCENCY OF THE BOVINE ENAMEL (생활치 미백제가 우치 법랑질의 투명도에 미치는 영향)

  • This study was done to evaluate whether vital bleaching agents could influence on the translucency of the bovine enamel. The anterior bovine teeth that were extracted one day before and without any gross discoloration were obtained and then were preserved in physiologic saline. 6 mm cylindrical tooth specimens were fabricated with diamond puncher perpendicularly on labial surface of bovine tooth. After embedded in transparent acrylic resin with labial surface being exposed, they were cut to a thickness of 1.2 mm with low speed diamond saw (Isomat, Buehler Co., Lake Bluff, IL, USA). They were smoothly ground to 1 mm thickness of enamel with sandpaper. 24 specimens were randomly divided into 3 groups and control group respectively. Opalescence (10% carbamide peroxide, Ultradent, South Jordan, USA), Rembrandt (10% carbamide peroxide, DenMat, USA) and Opalescence F (15% carbamide peroxide with fluoride, Ultradent, USA) were applied on labial sides of the bovine enamel for 7 days (bleaching agents were reapplied every 24 hours) and the opposite surface was contacted to cotton that soaked in distilled water. The control group was soaked in distilled water. Three stimulus value X, Y and Z were evaluated with colorimeter (Color ' Color Differencerneter, Model TC-6FX, Tokyo Denshoku Co., Japan) on the labial surface of all specimen three times on white and black background plate before the bleaching agents were applied and on 3rd, 5th and 7th day after applied. The degree of translucency was normally assessed by measuring the inverse property, opacity (contrast ratio). 10% Opalescence, 15% Opalescence-F, and control group showed no significant variation in the translucency of bovine enamel, However Rembrandt decreased the translucency of it (p < 0.01).

  • The purpose of this study was to evaluate the abrasion resistance of surface penetrating sealant which was applied on a composite resin restoration and to provide proper time to reapply sealant on composite resin surface. Two hundred rectangular specimens, sized $8\times3\times2mm$, were made of Micronew (Bisco, Inc., Schaumburg, IL, U.S.A) and divided into two groups; F group (n = 10) was finished with coarse and medium grit of Sof-Lex discs and BisCoverwas applied B group (n = 190) after finishing with discs. B group was again subdivided into nineteen subgroups From B-1 group to B-18 group were subjected to toothbrush abrasion test using a distilled water-dentifrice slurry and toothbrush heads B-IM group was not subjected to toothbrush abrasion test. Average surface roughness (Ra) of each group was calculated using a surface roughness tester (Surfcorder MSE-1700: Kosaka Laboratory Ltd., Tokyo, Japan) . A representative specimen of each group was examined by FE-SEM (S-4700: Hitachi High Technologies Co., Tokyo, Japan). The data were analysed using cluster analysis, paired t-test, and repeated measure ANOVA. The results of this study were as follows; 1. Ra off group was $0.898{\pm}0.145{\mu}m$ and B-IM group was $0.289{\pm}0.142{\mu}m$. Ra became higher from B-1 group $(0.299{\pm}0.48{\mu}m$ to B-18 group $(0.642{\pm}0.313{\mu}m$. 2. Final cluster center of Ra was $0.361{\mu}m$ in cluster 1 $(B-IM\simB-7)$, $0.511{\mu}m$ in cluster 2 $(B-8\simB-14)$ and $0.624{\mu}m$ in cluster 3 ($(B-15\simB-18)$. There were significant difference among Ra of three clusters. 3 Ra of B-IM group was decreased 210.72% than Ra of F group. Ra of B-8 group and B-15 group was increased 35.49% and 51.35% respectively than Ra of B-IM group. 4. On FE-SEM, B-IM group showed the smoothest resin surface. B-8 group and B-15 group showed vertically shallow scratches , and wide and irregular vertical scratches on composite resin surface respectively. Within a limitation of this study, finished resin surface will be again smooth and glazy if BisCover would be reapplied within 8 to 14 months after applying to resin surface.

Changes in Cerebral Blood flow Following Fermented Garlic Extract Solution with High Content of Nitrite (흰쥐에서 고용량 아질산이온 함유 마늘 발효농축액에 의한 뇌혈류 변화)

  • Nitrate-nitrite-nitric oxide (NO) pathway is a major alternative source of NO and is essential for NO - dependent physiological functions in body. Food supplements having nitrate/nitrite can improve metabolic syndromes including hypertension through antioxidant activity or vasodilation. The purpose of this study was to observe the effects of fermented garlic (F. garlic) having high concentration of NO2- on changes in blood flow and nitric oxide synthesis in the cerebral cortex of rodents. The generation of nitric oxide detected by a chemi-luminescence detector was higher in F. Garlic compared with NaNO2 solution under artificial gastric juice with pH 2.0. Ether F. garlic or NaNO2 diluted with artificial cerebrospinal fluid was directly applied into around the needle probe of laser Doppler flow meter that was located on epidural surface of the cortex. Direct application of F. garlic resulted in increase of cerebral blood flow detected by a laser Doppler flow meter with a dose-dependent manner. Compared with NaNO2 solution, F. garlic produced changes in cerebral blood flow at lower concentration of NO2-. Pretreatment of methylene blue, a guanylyl cyclase inhibitor prevented upregulation of cerebral blood flow by the treatment of F. garlic. In addition, the application of F. garlic with 250, 500ppm of NO2- caused significantly the production of NO in the cortical tissue but NaNO2 solution with 500ppm of NO2- did not. In summary, these results suggested that F. garlic with high content of NO2- induce increase in cerebral blood flow through nitric oxide-dependent signal pathway.

Corrosion Behavior of Nanotube Formed on the Bone Plate of Ti-6Al-4V Alloy for Dental Use (치과용 Ti-6Al-4V 합금 골 고정판 표면에 형성된 나노튜브의 부식거동)

  • Titanium and titanium alloys are widely used for orthopedic and dental implants for their superior mechanical properties, low modulus, excellent corrosion resistance and good biocompatibility. In this study, corrosion behaviors of nanotube formed on the bone plate of Ti-6Al-4V alloy for dental use have been investigated. $TiO_2$ nanotubes were formed on the dental bone plates by anodization in $H_3PO_4$ containing 0.6 wt % NaF solution at $25^{\circ}C$. Electrochemical experiments were performed using a conventional three-electrode configuration with a platinum counter electrode and a saturated calomel reference electrode. Anodization was carried out using a scanning potentiostat (EG&G Co, Model 263A USA), and all experiments were conducted at room temperature. The surface morphology was observed using field emission scanning electron microscopy (FE-SEM) and energy dispersive x-ray spectroscopy(EDS). The corrosion behavior of the dental bone plates was examined using potentiodynamic test(potential range of -1500~2000 mV) in a 0.9% NaCl solution by potentiostat (EG&G Co, PARSTAT 2273. USA). The inner diameter of nanotube was about 150~180 nm with wall thickness of about 20 nm. The interspace of nanotube to nanotube was 50 nm. The passive region of the nanotube formed bone plates showed the broad range compared to non-nanotube formed bone plates. The corrosion surface of sample was covered with corrosion products.

  • Fluorinated polymeric membranes were prepared by direct surface modification of PDMS with fluorine gas ($50{\sim}2000\;{\mu}mol/mol$ in nitrogen). The formed fluorinated polymeric membranes were characterized by FT-IR spectroscopy, GC (Gas chromatography), atomic force microscopy, and scanning electron microscopy. Direct fluorination resulted in the change of permeability and selectivity of various gases (pure gases such as $CO_2$, $O_2$, $N_2$, $C_2H_4$, mixture of He, Ne, Kr, Xe) through PDMS membranes. Fluorination resulted in the maximum 50% increase of selectivity through PDMS membrane.

Surface and Electrical Properties of Sr Based Thin Film with Annealing Temperature (열처리 온도에 따른 Sr계 박막의 표면 및 전기적인 특성)

  • The Sr based ceramic thin films were deposited on Si substrate by RF magnetron sputtering method. And Sr based thin films were annealed at $500{\sim}700^{\circ}C$ using RTA. The surface roughness showed about 2.4 nm in annealed thin film at $600^{\circ}C$. The capacitance density of Sr based thin films were increased with the increase of annealing temperature. The maximum capacitance density of $0.6{\mu}F/cm^2$ was obtained by annealing temperature at $700^{\circ}C$. The voltage dependence of dielectric loss showed about 0.02 in voltage ranges of -10~+10 V. The leakage current density of annealing temperature of $600^{\circ}C$ was the $4.0{\times}10^{-6}\;A/cm^2$ at applied voltage of -5~+5 V.

The Optimal Mixing Design of the PHC Piles Utilizing the Air Cooled Blast Furnace Slag as Coarse Aggregate (서냉 고로슬래그 굵은골재를 활용한 PHC 파일의 최적배합 및 물리적 특성)

  • The PHC pile utilizing the air-cooled blast-furnace slag as coarse aggregate was studied. This research was progressed with the range from the indoor mixing design evaluation into the actual goods production. The physical properties of the PHC pile are determined to satisfy through the appropriate mixing design adjustments. However, it should eliminate the aggregates including CaO and MgO in SG when it utilize in an AC (autoclave) type manufacturing process. It satisfied the bending moment, shear strength, and compressive strength of KS F 4306 except the surface states of the pile.

Specific kinesin and dynein molecules participate in the unconventional protein secretion of transmembrane proteins

  • Secretory proteins, including plasma membrane proteins, are generally known to be transported to the plasma membrane through the endoplasmic reticulum-to-Golgi pathway. However, recent studies have revealed that several plasma membrane proteins and cytosolic proteins lacking a signal peptide are released via an unconventional protein secretion (UcPS) route, bypassing the Golgi during their journey to the cell surface. For instance, transmembrane proteins such as the misfolded cystic fibrosis transmembrane conductance regulator (CFTR) protein and the Spike protein of coronaviruses have been observed to reach the cell surface through a UcPS pathway under cell stress conditions. Nevertheless, the precise mechanisms of the UcPS pathway, particularly the molecular machineries involving cytosolic motor proteins, remain largely unknown. In this study, we identified specific kinesins, namely KIF1A and KIF5A, along with cytoplasmic dynein, as critical players in the unconventional trafficking of CFTR and the SARS-CoV-2 Spike protein. Gene silencing results demonstrated that knockdown of KIF1A, KIF5A, and the KIF-associated adaptor protein SKIP, FYCO1 significantly reduced the UcPS of △F508-CFTR. Moreover, gene silencing of these motor proteins impeded the UcPS of the SARS-CoV-2 Spike protein. However, the same gene silencing did not affect the conventional Golgi-mediated cell surface trafficking of wild-type CFTR and Spike protein. These findings suggest that specific motor proteins, distinct from those involved in conventional trafficking, are implicated in the stress-induced UcPS of transmembrane proteins.

The effect of surface treatment conditioning on shear bond strength between zirconia and dental resin cements (지르코니아 세라믹의 표면처리에 따른 치과용 접착제의 전단결합강도)

  • Purpose: The purpose of this study was to evaluate the effect of surface treatment on the shear bond strength of zirconia ceramic to 3 resin cements. Materials and methods: A total of 143 disk-shaped Zirconia blocks (HASS Co., Gangneung, Korea) were randomly divided into three treatment groups: (1) only 50 ${\mu}m$ $Al_2O_3$ sandblasting, (2) 50 ${\mu}m$ $Al_2O_3$ sandblast and zircona liner, (3) 50 ${\mu}m$ $Al_2O_3$ sandblasting and Rocatec (3M ESPE, Seefeld, Germany). Bistite II (Tokuyama Dental Co., Japan), Panavia F (Kuraray Medical, Japan), and Superbond C&B (Sun Medical, Japan) were used to cement onto the zirconia. After 24h of storage in distilled water, shear bond strength was evaluated. High value group was re-tested after thermocycling at 5,000 cycles(5-$55^{\circ}C$). Shear bond strength data were analyzed with one-way ANOVA, two-way ANOVA test and Post Hoc Test (${\alpha}$=.05). Shear bond strength data before and after thermocycling were analyzed with Independent sample T test (${\alpha}$=.05). Results: Super-bond C&B treated with Rocatec showed the most high shear bond strength. Super-bond C&B groups resulted in significantly higher than other cement groups (P<.05). Rocatec groups resulted in significantly higher than other surface treatment groups (P<.05). Shear bond strength has increased in Panavia F treated with Zirconia liner (P<.05). After thermocycling, shear bond strength was increased in Super-bond C&B treated with Rocatec but decreased in other groups (P<.05). Conclusion: Super-bond C&B cement resulted the highest shear bond strength and Rocatec system enhanced the shear bond strength. After thermocycling, shear bond strength has decreased in most resin cements except Super-bond C&B treated with Rocatec.

An Investigation of Mild Steel with Nitrogen-containing Inhibitor in Hydrochloric Acid

  • Pickling inhibitors can be used to form an adsorbed layer on the metal surface to hinder the discharge of H^+$ and dissolution of metal ions. Nitrogen-containing inhibitors were selected as corrosion inhibitors for mild steel (MS) in pickling acid process. In this study, the addition of inhibitor, the pickling temperatures and the pickling times were the parameters to investigate the effects on the inhibition efficiency (IE) for MS by using weight loss measurement. Preliminary results show that the IE increased with the increase in pickling time from 10 minutes to 60 minutes, and the IE also increased with the increase in temperature at room temperature and $40^{\circ}C$. At the higher temperature. the IE values are higher and almost independent with the pickling time. Furthermore, the potentiodynamic polarization, open circuit corrosion potential-time and corrosion current-time studies show that nitorgen-containing inhibitor behaves predominantly as cathodic polarization. The roughness test and SEM investigation are also studied in this paper.
