  • All vegetation colonies have layered structure. This layer is called 'forest vertical structure.' Nowadays it is considered as an important indicator to estimate forest's vital condition, diversity and environmental effect of forest. So forest vertical structure should be surveyed. However, vertical structure is a kind of inner structure, so forest surveys are generally conducted through field surveys, a traditional forest inventory method which costs plenty of time and budget. Therefore, in this study, we propose a useful method to classify the vertical structure of forests using remote sensing aerial photographs and machine learning capable of mass data mining in order to reduce time and budget for forest vertical structure investigation. We classified it as SVM (Support Vector Machine) using RGB airborne photos and LiDAR (Light Detection and Ranging) DSM (Digital Surface Model) DTM (Digital Terrain Model). Accuracy based on pixel count is 66.22% when compared to field survey results. It is concluded that classification accuracy of layer classification is relatively high for single-layer and multi-layer classification, but it was concluded that it is difficult in multi-layer classification. The results of this study are expected to further develop the field of machine learning research on vegetation structure by collecting various vegetation data and image data in the future.

  • The seriousness of fire is rising because fire causes enormous damage to property and human life. Therefore, this study aims to predict various risk factors affecting fire by fire type. The predictive analysis of fire factors was carried out targeting Gyeonggi-do, which has the highest number of fires in the country. For the analysis, using machine learning methods SVM (Support Vector Machine), RF (Random Forest), GBRT (Gradient Boosted Regression Tree) the accuracy of each model was presented with a high fit model through MAE (Mean Absolute Error) and RMSE (Root Mean Squared Error), and based on this, predictive analysis of fire factors in Gyeonggi-do was conducted. In addition, using machine learning methods such as SVM (Support Vector Machine), RF (Random Forest), and GBRT (Gradient Boosted Regression Tree), the accuracy of each model was presented with a high-fit model through MAE and RMSE. Predictive analysis of occurrence factors was achieved. Based on this, as a result of comparative analysis of three machine learning methods, the RF method showed a MAE = 1.765 and RMSE = 1.876, as well as the MAE and RMSE verification and test data were very similar with a difference between MAE = 0.046 and RMSE = 0.04 showing the best predictive results. The results of this study are expected to be used as useful data for fire safety management allowing decision makers to identify the sequence of dangers related to the factors affecting the occurrence of fire.

  • The social network service (SNS) is one of the important marketing channels, so many companies actively exploit SNSs by posting SNS messages with appropriate content and style for their customers. In this paper, we focused on the psychological distances embedded in the SNS messages and developed a method to measure the psychological distance in SNS message by mixing a traditional content analysis, natural language processing (NLP), and machine learning. Through a traditional content analysis by human coding, the psychological distance was extracted from the SNS message, and these coding results were used for input data for NLP and machine learning. With NLP, word embedding was executed and Bag of Word was created. The Support Vector Machine, one of machine learning techniques was performed to train and test the psychological distance in SNS message. As a result, sensitivity and precision of SVM prediction were significantly low because of the extreme skewness of dataset. We improved the performance of SVM by balancing the ratio of data by upsampling technique and using data coded with the same value in first content analysis. All performance index was more than 70%, which showed that psychological distance can be measured well.

  • Particulate matter (PM) that has been artificially generated during the recent of rapid industrialization and urbanization moves and disperses according to weather conditions, and adversely affects the human skin and respiratory systems. The purpose of this study is to predict the PM10 concentration in Seoul using meteorological factors as input dataset for multiple linear regression (MLR), support vector machine (SVM), and random forest (RF) models, and compared and evaluated the performance of the models. First, the PM10 concentration data obtained at 39 air quality monitoring sites (AQMS) in Seoul were divided into training and validation dataset (8:2 ratio). The nine meteorological factors (mean, maximum, and minimum temperature, precipitation, average and maximum wind speed, wind direction, yellow dust, and relative humidity), obtained by the automatic weather system (AWS), were composed to input dataset of models. The coefficients of determination (R2) between the observed PM10 concentration and that predicted by the MLR, SVM, and RF models was 0.260, 0.772, and 0.793, respectively, and the RF model best predicted the PM10 concentration. Among the AQMS used for model validation, Gwanak-gu and Gangnam-daero AQMS are relatively close to AWS, and the SVM and RF models were highly accurate according to the model validations. The Jongno-gu AQMS is relatively far from the AWS, but since PM10 concentration for the two adjacent AQMS were used for model training, both models presented high accuracy. By contrast, Yongsan-gu AQMS was relatively far from AQMS and AWS, both models performed poorly.

  • With the five-day workweek system in bank and the increased usage of ATM(Automatic Toller Machine), it is required that the financial crime using stolen credit card should be prevented. Though a CCTV camera is usually installed in near ATM, an intelligent criminal can cheat it disguising himself with sunglass or mask. In this paper, we propose facial feature verification system which can detect whether the user's face can be Identified or not, using image processing algorithm and SVM(Support Vector Machine). Experimental results show that FAR(Error Rate for accepting a disguised man as a non-disguised one) is 1% and FRR(Error Rate for rejecting a normal/non-disguised man as a disguised one) is 2% for training data. In addition, it shows the FAR of 2.5% and the FRR of 1.43% for test data.

  • Widespread use of smartphones and wireless LAN accompany a threat called rogue AP. When a user connects to a rogue AP, the rogue AP can mount the man-in-the-middle attack against the user, so it can easily acquire user's private information. Many researches have been conducted on how to detect a various kinds of rogue APs, and in this paper, we are going to propose an algorithm to identify and detect a rogue AP that impersonates a regular AP by showing a regular AP's SSID and connecting to a regular AP. User is deceived easily because the rogue AP's SSID looks the same as that of a regular AP. To detect this type of rogue APs, we use a machine learning algorithm called SVM(Support Vector Machine). Our algorithm detects rogue APs with more than 90% accuracy, and also adjusts automatically detection criteria. We show the performance of our algorithm by experiments.

  • There are many airline customer evaluation data, but they are insufficient in terms of predicting customer satisfaction in practice. In particular, they are generally insufficient in case of verification of data value and development of a customer satisfaction prediction model based on customer evaluation data. In this paper, airline customer satisfaction analysis is conducted through an experiment of correlation analysis between customer evaluation data provided by Google's Kaggle. The difference in accuracy varied according to the three types, which are the overall variables, the top 4 and top 8 variables with the highest correlation. To build an airline customer satisfaction prediction model, they are applied to three classification algorithms of Random Forest, SVM, DNN and conduct a classification experiment. They are divided into training data and verification data by 7:3. As a result, the DNN model showed the lowest accuracy at 86.4%, while the SVM model at 89% and the Random Forest model at 95.7% showed the highest accuracy and performance.

  • Considering the volatility, intermittent and random of photovoltaic (PV) generation systems, accurate forecasting of PV power output is important for the grid scheduling and energy management. In order to improve the accuracy of short-term power forecasting of PV systems, this paper proposes a prediction model based on environmental factors and support vector machine optimized by genetic algorithm (GA-SVM). In order to improve the prediction accuracy of this model, weather conditions are divided into three types, and the gray correlation coefficient algorithm is used to find out a similar day of the predicted day. To avoid parameters optimization into local optima, this paper uses genetic algorithm to optimize SVM parameters. Example verification shows that the prediction accuracy in three types of weather will remain at between 10% -15% and the short-term PV power forecasting model proposed is effective and promising.

  • The research of climate change impact in hydrometeorology often relies on climate change information. In this paper, neural networks models such as support vector machine neural networks model (SVM-NNM) and multilayer perceptron neural networks model (MLP-NNM) are proposed statistical downscaling of the monthly precipitation. The input nodes of neural networks models consist of the atmospheric meteorology and the atmospheric pressure data for 2 grid points including $127.5^{\circ}E/35^{\circ}N$ and $125^{\circ}E/35^{\circ}N$, which produced the best results from the previous study. The output node of neural networks models consist of the monthly precipitation data for Seoul station. For the performances of the neural networks models, they are composed of training and test performances, respectively. From this research, we evaluate the impact of SVM-NNM and MLP-NNM performances for the downscaling of the monthly precipitation data. We should, therefore, construct the credible monthly precipitation data for Seoul station using statistical downscaling method. The proposed methods can be applied to future climate prediction/projection using the various climate change scenarios such as GCMs and RCMs.
