  • Since the financial turmoil in 1997, both the national and local governments have initiated a variety of policy measures to support small and medium-size firms to strengthen the national and regional economies. It is no doubt that such policies contributed to establish better business environment for them. However, many analytical reports and academic studies in recent years diagnose that the economy conditions for the small and medium-size firms are in crisis because many policy measures are made based on the supply-side approach rather than demand-side consideration. In order for the governments' efforts to be more realistic and effective, it is necessary to see what the policy target groups(that is. the small and medium-size entrepreneurs) want. This study surveyed entrepreneurs in Hwaseung city, Kyonggi-do, which has more than three-thousands of small and medium-size firms. It finds that in spite of locational advantages and a variety of policy supports from the provincial and local governments, they need more financial supports, more effective mass transportation system for commuting workers. less bureaucratic barriers, and so on.

  • Objectives : The aim of this study was to examined the mediating role of empowerment in relations to job and organizational factors, and job satisfaction and organizational commitment in hospital organizations. Methods : Job variety, clarity, significance, and fitness were examined as the job factors, and security, reward justice, and organizational support as the organizational factors. Data were collected from 8 national university hospitals with 1,289 data points used for the final analysis. Results : All the job factors were found to positively influence empowerment, as were all the organizational factors, with the exception of reward justice . As hypothesized, empowerment had significant effects on both job satisfaction and organizational commitment, and was the most influential variable of all those examined. Conclusions : In the relations to job satisfaction, empowerment completely mediated job significance, security and organizational support, and partially mediated all other variables, with the exception of reward justice. In the relations to organizational commitment, empowerment completely mediated job variety and job fitness, and partially mediated all other variables, with the exception of reward justice. The theoretical and practical implications of these results have been discussed.

  • Development of digital information and internet technology causes the changes of technology environments and companies, and the variety of customer needs has been dynamically changed in terms of integrating information system with customer satisfaction. Moreover a new logistics concept is needed through the sharing information between suppliers and consumers, which maximizes the level of customers service and its flexibility by changing functional-oriented to process-oriented. In other words, Supply Chain Management (SCM) is now considered as a key aspect of business, which controls the flows of information, funds, and goods in the supply chain. Rationalization of transport-delivery system will be one of the most important issues on logistics management to the domestic companies. The companies need the effective delivery system. Especially in the case of delivery system from distribution centers to customers or vendors, it might take a long time to control the delivery system manually because it would be hard to apply the automatic vehicle routing algorithm effectively considering all the practical constraints. Thus this study develops a heuristic algorithm of automatic vehicle delivery support system in terms of grouping by short ranges of vehicle movement utilizing postal coordinates, which satisfies a variety of realistic constraints and reduces controlling time of manual operations. In addition, the performance of the algorithm developed in this study is evaluated through the case study.

환경특성이 TV 드라마 제작자의 장르 다양성 수준에 미치는 영향 (TV Drama Producers' Changing Adaptive Behaviors in Terms of Genre Variety)

  • 본 연구는 한국 TV 드라마 제작 산업을 대상으로 하여 환경 변화에 따른 드라마 제작자의 대응 전략 변화를 분석하였다. 구체적으로 본 연구에서는 전략적 상황이론에 근거하여, 상이한 환경특성을 가진 두 시기 사이에 드라마 제작자들이 제작한 드라마의 장르 다양성 수준에 차이가 있는지를 검증하였다. 실증분석결과, 안정적인 환경특성의 시기(1994년-2002년)보다 불확실성이 높은 환경특성의 시기(2003년-2009년)에 장르 다양성 수준이 높은 것으로 나타났다. 이러한 결과는 드라마 제작자가 안정적인 환경에서는 동일한 장르를 반복적으로 활용하여 효율을 추구하는 반면, 불확실한 환경에서는 장르의 다양성을 높여 혁신을 추구하는 방식으로 환경특성에 적합한 전략을 사용한다는 것을 시사하고 있다.

Multioutput LS-SVR based residual MCUSUM control chart for autocorrelated process

  • Most classical control charts assume that processes are serially independent, and autocorrelation among variables makes them unreliable. To address this issue, a variety of statistical approaches has been employed to estimate the serial structure of the process. In this paper, we propose a multioutput least squares support vector regression and apply it to construct a residual multivariate cumulative sum control chart for detecting changes in the process mean vector. Numerical studies demonstrate that the proposed multioutput least squares support vector regression based control chart provides more satisfying results in detecting small shifts in the process mean vector.

  • When a semiconductor package is assembled, various materials such as die attach adhesive, lead frame, EMC (Epoxy Molding Compound), and gold wire are used. For better preconditioning performance, the combination between the packaging materials by studying the compatibility of their properties as well as superior packaging material selection is important. But it is not an easy task to find proper packaging material sets, since a variety of factors like package design, substrate design, substrate size, substrate treatment, die size, die thickness, die passivation, and customer requirements should be considered. This research applies case-based reasoning(CBR) technique to solve this problem, utilizing prior cases that have been experienced. Our particular interests lie in building decision support model to aid the selection of proper die attach adhesive. The preliminary results show that this approach is promising.

Retrieval of oceanic primary production using support vector machines

  • One of the most important tasks of ocean color observations is to determine the distribution of phytoplankton primary production. A variety of bio-optical algorithms have been developed estimate primary production from these parameters. In this communication, we investigated the possibility of using a novel universal approximator-support vector machines (SVMs)-as the nonlinear transfer function between oceanic primary production and the information that can be directly retrieved from satellite data. The VGPM (Vertically Generalized Production Model) dataset was used to evaluate the proposed approach. The PPARR2 (Primary Production Algorithm Round Robin 2) dataset was used to further compare the precision between the VGPM model and the SVM model. Using this SVM model to calculate the global ocean primary production, the result is 45.5 PgC $yr^{-1}$, which is a little higher than the VGPM result.

Forecasting volatility via conditional autoregressive value at risk model based on support vector quantile regression

  • The conditional autoregressive value at risk (CAViaR) model is useful for risk management, which does not require the assumption that the conditional distribution does not vary over time but the volatility does. But it does not provide volatility forecasts, which are needed for several important applications such as option pricing and portfolio management. For a variety of probability distributions, it is known that there is a constant relationship between the standard deviation and the distance between symmetric quantiles in the tails of the distribution. This inspires us to use a support vector quantile regression (SVQR) for volatility forecasts with the distance between CAViaR forecasts of symmetric quantiles. Simulated example and real example are provided to indicate the usefulness of proposed forecasting method for volatility.

  • Research in the decision sciences has continued to develop a variety of mathematical models as well as software tools supporting corporate decision-making. Yet. in spite of their potential usefulness, the models are little used in real-world decision making since the model solution processes are too complex for ordinary users to get accustomed. This paper proposes an intelligent and flexible model-solver integration framework that enables the user to solve decision problems using multiple models and solvers without having precise knowledge of the model-solution processes. Specifically, for intuitive model-solution, the framework enables a decision support system to suggest the compatible solvers of a model autonomously without direct user intervention and to solve the model by matching the model and solver parameters intelligently without any serious conflicts. Thus, the framework would improve the productivity of institutional model solving tasks by relieving the user from the burden of leaning model and solver semantics requiring considerable time and efforts.

건강가정지원센터의 가족봉사단 및 건강가정캠페인 사업 운영 현황 및 발전방향에 관한 연구 (A Study on the Improvement Direction for the Activity of Family Voluntary Service Group and Healthy Family Campaign in Healthy Family-Support Center)

  • This research evaluated the present condition of the family voluntary service group and healthy family campaign, which was being carried out as one of the healthy family culture businesses of the Healthy Family-Support Center. Furthermore, it suggests ways to improve these business activities. Research centered on the analysis of business documents created between December 2006 and November 2007. The results were as follows. First, the family voluntary service group and the healthy family campaign business in the Center must be able to have specificity or individuality. Second, the Center must manage the scale, frequency, and contents of the businesses systematically. Third, the businesses must concern themselves with family life in general, make better use of the advisory committee or steering committee, concern variety of business performing system.
