Effects of Acculturative Stress and Emotional Control on Depression/Anxiety in Children from Multicultural Families: Mediating Effects of Social Support (문화적응스트레스 및 정서조절이 다문화가정 아동의 우울/불안에 미치는 영향 : 사회적 지지 매개효과를 중심으로)

  • This study examines the mediating effects of social support on 1) the relationships between acculturative stress and depression/anxiety and 2) the relationships between emotional control and depression/anxiety in children from multicultural families. Pearson's correlations between variables were analyzed, and hierarchical regression analyses were conducted to identify direct and indirect effects of acculturative stress, emotional control, and social support on children's depression/anxiety. The sample included a total of 199 primary school students in grades 3 to 6 who lived in the Gwangju or Chonnam regions of Korea. First, there were positive correlations between acculturative stress and depression/anxiety and negative correlations between emotional control and social support. Second, social support from both peers and teachers partially mediated the relationships between acculturative stress and depression/anxiety. Third, social support from peers fully mediated the relationships between emotional control and depression/anxiety, and that from teachers partially mediated these relationships. The results suggest that social support from peers and teachers may reduce depression/anxiety in multicultural children as a mediating variable.

The Main & Buffering Effects of Perceived Social Support on Burnout of Insurance Review Nurses (보험심사간호사가 지각한 사회적 지지가 소진에 미치는 직접효과 및 완충효과)

  • Purpose: The purposes were to survey the level of work stress, social support, burnout of insurance review nurses and to measure the main & buffering effect of perceived social support on burnout. Method: The samples were 285 insurance review nurses who were registered in Review Nurses Association of Korea at the period of 25 July and 12 August in 2005. Data were analyzed by using of t-test, Pearson's correlation, stepwise multiple regression, two-way ANOVA. Results: There were significant differences of burnout according to the work experience, position, and work satisfaction of insurance review nurses. Among the variables explaining the level of burnout of review nurses, the most significant variable was work stress, followed by current work satisfaction, social support, position and total variance explained was 40.8%. For the analysis of the buffering effects of perceived social support on work stress and burnout, the interaction between work stress and social support was not significant. Conclusions: It is necessary to construct the social support system and to reduce the work stress in order to reduce the level of the burnout of insurance review nurses.

The Effect of Adult-Children Support Network on the Psychological Well-Being of the Single and Couple Elderly Households in Rural Areas (성인자녀관계망이 농촌단독가구노인의 심리적 복지감에 미치는 영향)

  • This study examines the effect of adult-children support network on the psychological well-being of the single and couple elderly households in rural areas. Adult-children support networks include both structural and functional characteristics. For the purpose of this research, 476 participants, who are older than 60 years old, living in rural areas, were selected. The results of this study are summarized as follows: the average degree of psychological well-being of the rural elderly was high. Emotional support from adult children was higher than economic or instrumental support. In the case of the single elderly households, adult children's economic support was the strongest variable affecting the psychological well-being. In the case of the couple elderly households, adult children's emotional support had the greater effect on psychological well-being. On the basis of this analysis, policy implications regarding the single and couple elderly households in rural areas were discussed.

The Influence of Senior Entrepreneurship Competency and Start-up Support Policy on Entrepreneurship Intention: Focusing on the Moderating Effect of Mentoring (시니어 창업자 역량과 창업지원정책이 창업의지에 미치는 영향: 멘토링의 조절효과를 중심으로)

  • With the recent increase in senior retirement, and senior start-ups are becoming more active due to high interest in start-ups. Research on young entrepreneurship, including college students, is being actively conducted, but most of the preceding research on senior entrepreneurship was conducted mainly on personal characteristics and social environment, and there were not many empirical studies on the influencing factors of entrepreneurship support policies. In this study, research and discussion on the entrepreneurial support policy and entrepreneurial competence as the influencing factors of senior entrepreneurship. As the independent variable of this study, the founder's competency was adopted as two factors: technical competence and creative competency, and the entrepreneurial support policy was divided into education support and funding support. Mentoring was set as a controlling variable and entrepreneurial intention was set as a dependent variable. A total of 232 questionnaires collected from seniors in their 40s or older were empirically analyzed. To verify the hypothesis of the study, SPSS 23 was used for exploratory factor analysis and regression analysis, and Process 3.4 was used for moderation effect. As a result of the study, it was found that the factors of technical competence, creative competence, educational support, and funding all have a significant influence on the will of entrepreneurship. It was found that creative competency(𝛽=.318), funding support(𝛽=.188), educational support(𝛽=.152), and technical competence(𝛽=.139), in this order, influenced the entrepreneurial intention. It was verified that the moderating effect of mentoring was significant between technical competence, creative competence, and entrepreneurial intention, but the moderating effect of mentoring between educational support, funding and entrepreneurial intention was not. The implications of this study will contribute to the research of senior start-up support policies, institutional supplementation, and differentiated start-up support programs by studying the factors of senior start-up capabilities and start-up support policies. It is also believed that it will contribute to the search for ways to increase creative capabilities that have a high influence on the willingness to start a business and the expansion of mentoring functions.

Predicting Quality of Life in Women Having Hysterectomies (자궁절제술 여성의 삶의 질 영향요인)

  • The purpose of this study was to provide a basis for nursing intervention to enhance quality if life in women having hysterectomies. Data was collected using a self-report questionnaire from 205 women having hysterectomies at the outpatient clinics of four general hospitals and a mail survey in Pusan City. Reliability of eight instrument's was tested with Cronbach's alpha which ranged from .601-.901. The data were analyzed by percentage, mean, SD, Pearson's Correlation and Stepwise Multiple Regression by using the SPSS 7.5 WIN Program. The results are as follows: 1) The average score for the quality of life was 74.33(score range 23-92). 2) There was a significant correlation between the predictive variables on quality of life. The most significant correlation was sexual identity(r=.516, p=.000). 3) When quality if life score was entered into the equation as the dependent variable, 7variables explaining 54.5% of the variation in quality if life score. Sexual identity was the main predictor of quality of life and accounted for 24.6% of the variance in quality of life. 4) When physical domain score was entered into equation as the dependent variable, 5variables explaining 29.2% of the variation in physical domain score. 5) When psychological domain score was entered into the equation as the dependent variable, 5variables explaining 46.0% of the variation in psychological domain score. 6) When sexual life domain score was entered into the equation as the dependent variable, 6variables explaining 39.4% of the variation in sexual life domain score. In conclusion, sexual identity, pre-operational symptom, sense of loss, spouse's support, age, professional support, coping behavior were identified as important variables in the quality of life in women having hysterectomies.

  • Purpose : This study aims to suggest social support composed of organizational support and managerial support would be systematically managed to enhance Disaster Operations Management at Seoul Emergency Operations Center. Method : Emotional labor was used as an independent variable, and organizational commitment was used as a dependent variable to analyze the mediating effects of social support. Results : First, in the aspect of organizational support, the objective evaluation of disaster situation management, disaster situation management emotional labor reduction education and training program development, monitoring of disaster situation management, quality improvement and work imbalance mitigation of firefighters, and emergency coordination managers are needed for systematic work management for emotional labor settlement. Secondly, it is necessary to select competent firefighters in the level of managerial support, to prepare healing measures for structured phased emotional labor for firefighters, and to have counseling competency for managers for emotional labor firefighting officers. Conclusion : In order to improve disaster management ability, education and training programs should be developed to improve organizational commitment based on social support.

High-Performance Variable-Length Reed-Solomon Decoder Architecture for Gigabit WPAN Applications (기가비트 WPAN용 고성능 가변길이 리드-솔로몬 복호기 구조)

  • This paper presents a universal architecture for variable-length eight-parallel Reed-Solomon (RS) decoder for high-rate WPAN systems. The proposed architecture can support not only RS(255,239) code but various shortened RS codes. Moreover, variable-length architecture provides variable low latency for various shortened RS codes and the eight-parallel design also provides high data processing rate. Using 90-$nm$ CMOS standard cell technology, the proposed RS decoder has been synthesized and measured for performance. The proposed RS decoder can provide a maximum 19-$Gbps$ data rate at clock frequency 300 $MHz$.

Variables Affecting Burnout among Teachers of Infants and Toddlers (영아교사의 개인적 배경 및 근무여건과 사회적 지지가 소진에 미치는 영향)

  • A questionnaire was distributed to 102 teachers who worked in non-profit, for-profit and company-operated child care centers. The relationships of demographic, work conditions, and social support variables were examined by correlation, one-way ANOVA, and multiple regressions. Results showed that working hours, salary and social support were the most important factors influencing emotional exhaustion. Higher levels of burnout were found among teachers of infants and toddlers who worked for more than 12 hours on average, teachers with lower salary, and those with a lower level of social support. Results in general indicated that shorter working hours was a very important variable for reduction in burnout among teachers of infants and toddlers.

  • In this paper, we propose a new fuzzy membership function for FSVM(Fuzzy Support Vector Machines). We apply a fuzzy membership to each input point of SVM and reformulate SVM into fuzzy SVM (FSVM) such that different input points can make different contributions to the learning of decision surface. The proposed method enhances the SVM in reducing the effect of outliers and noises in data points. This paper compares classification and estimated performance of SVM, FSVM(1), and FSVM(2) model that are getting into the spotlight in time series prediction.

Teachers' Goal Orientation and Support for Seeking Help as Predictors of Academic Help-Seeking Behaviors (교실목표 및 수업환경 지각과 도움요청 행동의 관계)

  • The present study examined the relation between academic help-seeking behaviors and classroom context based on students' perceptions of various classroom goals stressed by their teachers and their perceived teacher support for seeking help. The 305 subjects were 5th grade students(162 boys and 143 girls) of an elementary school in Gwangyang. The students completed a questionnaire. Data were analyzed by $2{\times}2$ ANOVA. Results showed that students' help-seeking behaviors were influenced by their teachers' goal orientation and perceived teacher support for seeking help. The results of this study suggest that perceived teacher support for seeking help may be expecially important for some students who could use instrumental help to continue task engagement, and teachers' learning-focused goal orientation is an important variable of instrumental help-seeking behavior.
