Critical Current Properties of Bi-2223/Ag tapes with respect to axial Strain (Bi-2223/Ag 고온 초전도 선재 변형에 따른 입계전류 특성)

  • In this study, we fabricated Bi-2223/Ag high temperature superconducting tapes using PIT(Powder-In-Tube) process to apply the superconducting magnet, cable and etc. It is inevitable to deform the superconducting taps with axial strain for application. Therefore, for the characterization of the strain sensitivity of the superconducting properties, the degradation of Bi-2223/Ag tapes due to axial strain were investigated by measuring the critical current as a function of applied tension strain and external magnetic field. The critical current of Bi-2223/Ag tapes were decreased slightly up to 0.3∼0.4% applied strain but, drastically decreased more than these strains. Superconducting filament cores consisted of brittle ceramic fibers were broken easily by the large strain and current path were decreased simultaneously.

  • We present investigations of a hybrid type superconducting fault current limiter (SFCL), which consists of transformers and resistive superconducting elements. The secondary windings of the transformer were separated into several electrically isolated circuits and linked inductively with each other by mutual flux, each of which has a superconducting current limiting element of $YBa_2Cu_3O_7$ (YBCO) stripes as a current limiting element. Simple connection in series of the SFCL elements tends to produce ill-timed quenching because of power dissipation unbalance between SFCL elements. Both electrical isolation and mutual flux linkage of the elements provides a solution to power dissipation unbalance, inducing simultaneous quench and current redistribution of the YBCO films. This design enables to increase the voltage rating of SFCL with given YBCO stripes.

  • For fabricating high T$\sub$c/ superconducting deposited film, novel electrophoretic deposition technique applied to deposit surface charged Particles on metal substrate with oxy d.c field has been studied. The electric properties of superconducting film don't improve easily because the particles of deposition film are deposited randomly on substrate and don't make orientation affected to its critical current density. In this paper, we studied conventional electrophoresis in addition to a.c field assisted for the improvement of BSCCO superconducting film with high orientation of deposition particles.

  • HTS superconducting tapes are now commercially available for practical applications such as magnets and cables. Since superconductors in such applications are subjected to high mechanical loads that can significantly degrade the superconducting properties, mechanical properties and the strain tolerance known as the strain effect on superconducting properties are needed to be estimated for developing superconducting devices. Influences of loading mode on the Ic degradation and the interaction on strain effect were discussed in this study.

  • An electromagnetic memory effect observed in superconducting YBCO system was studied. From the measurement of differential conductance, it was cleared that the mechanism of electromagnetic memory can not be explained by using conventional flux flow model. By changing the density of external magnetic flux, changes in inductance of a coil in which a superconducting bar is inserted were also measured. It was concluded that the electromagnetic memory effect aries from the interaction between the trapped magnetic flux and the weak link of the filament formed in the superconducting bar.

  • In this paper, dc reactor lot the inductive high-Tc superconducting fault current limiter (SFCL) was optimally designed by finite element method(FEM). The Prototype high-Tc do reactor was manufactured and compared to the results of design. This dc reactor consists of 4∼stacked double pancake coils which are wounded with Bi-2223 wire coated with SUS315L. Kapton tape is used for the insulation of turn to turn and layer to layer. Each pancake is connected in series by soldering Finally, optimal design and manufacture method lot the dc reactor is suggested in this paper. Through the comparison of result of optimal design and experimental result of prototype high-Tc superconducting dc reactor, reliance on the design of the high-Tc dc reactor tot the 1.2 kV/80 A SFCL is proved.

  • In the electrophoresis for fabrication of a superconducting wire and film, the enough deposition and formal sustain of a film condition affect to superconducting state of samples. In this paper, a superconducting film was fabricated with various suspension solution such as acetone, buthanol, and ethanol. As a results, the best deposition condition with d.c 250 V and a.c 25 V of applied voltage, and 90 sec of applied time for BSCCO superconducting film by electrophoresis was investigated.

  • In this paper, we analyzed the operational characteristics of the fault current limiting according to the amplitude of the fault current for the transformer type superconducting fault current limiter (SFCL). If the fault current happens, the superconducting element connected to the secondary coil is occurred quench and the fault current is limited. When the larger fault current occurs, the superconducting element connected to the third coil is occurred additional quench and the peak fault current is limited. We found that the fault current can be more effectively controlled through the analysis of the fault current limiting and the short-circuit tests.
