Korean Speaker's Edge Tone Patterns of English Conjunctive Utterances (한국인 학습자의 영어 접속사 발화에 나타난 가장자리성조 패턴)

  • This paper shows the tonal patterns of English conjunctive utterances produced by Korean speakers of English, presenting that Korean speakers realize either the H - phrase tone or the H% boundary tone at the phrase-final part of the conjunctive utterances. Based on Pierrehumbert & Hirschberg's (1990) claim that either H- or H% tone indicates that a phrase is related to the following one, Korean speakers seem to produce the satisfactory patterns of edge tones in conjunctive sentences. In the experiment, we made up conjunctive sentences including both coordinate conjunctions such as and, but, or, and so and subordinate conjunctions like if, when and though. We varied the stimuli according to the existence of a comma and the lengths of connecting words and phrases. We also divided the subjects into two levels of English proficiency based on their English written test scores to see if Korean speakers' performance ability of edge tones is related with their general competence of English. Results show that Korean speakers produced 84% of the H- phrase tone in intermediate phrases and H-L% and L-H% boundary tones in intonational phrases. Also, coordinate and subordinate conjunctions show little difference in their tonal contours, and the existence of a comma or the lengths of connecting words and phrases do not affect Korean speakers' production of the H- phrasal tone and the H% boundary tone. This may suggest that pitch accents, rather than edge tones, should be put more focus on in teaching English intonation in Korea as much work has already shown that Korean speakers have serious problem with producing pitch accents in speaking English.

Against the Asymmetric CP- V2 Analysis of Old English

  • The paper is to argue against the asymmetric CP-V2 analysis of Old English, according to which finite verbs invariably undergo movement into a clause-final T within subordinate clauses and reach the functional head C within main clauses. The asymmetric CP-V2 analysis, first of all, faces difficulty in explaining a wide range of post-verbal elements within subordinate clauses. To resolve the problem, the analysis has to abandon the obligatoriness of V-to-T movement or introduce various types of extraposition whose status is dubious as a legitimate syntactic operation. Obligatory V-to-T movement in Old English lacks conceptual justification as well. Crosslinguistic evidence reveals that morphological richness in verbal inflection cannot entail overt verb movement. Moreover, the operation is always string-vacuous under the asymmetric CP- V2 analysis and has no effect at the interfaces, in violation of the principle of economy. The distribution of Old English finite verbs in main clauses also undermines the asymmetric CP-V2 analysis. Conceptually speaking, a proper syntactic trigger cannot be confirmed to motivate obligatory verb movement to C. The operation not only gets little support from nominative Case marking, the distribution of expletives, or complementizer agreement but also requires the unconvincing stipulation that expletives as well as sentence-initial subjects result from string-vacuous topicalization. Finally, textual evidence testifies that Old English sometimes permits non-V2 ordering patterns, many of which remain unexplained under the asymmetric CP-V2 analysis.

  • Induced longitudinal voltage and induced noise voltage are used in the analysis on the power induction phenomenon and it is well known that these are in the subordinate relationship. But sometimes. there is a confusing situation that these voltages have not exact subordinate relationship in the actual measurement fields. So. we have analyze the correlation between induced longitudinal voltage and induced noise voltage by using tile actual measured data in the fields of 30 urban areas and 30 rural areas.

A Multivariate Model Development For Stream Flow Generation (다변량 모형에 의한 하천유량의 모의 발생)

  • Various modeling approaches to study along term behavior of streamflow or groundwater storagge have been conducted. In this study, a Multivariate AR (1) Model has been applied to generate monthly flows of the one key station which has historical flows using monthly flows of the three subordinate stations. The Model performance was examined using statistical comparisons between the historical and generated monthly series such as mean, various, skewness. Also, the correlation coefficients(lag-zero, and lag-one)between the two monthly flows were compared. The results showed that the modeled generated flows were statistically similar to the historical flows.

Influences of Interpersonal Relations Competency of University Students of Dental Technology on Their Smartphone Addiction (치기공학과 대학생의 대인관계유능성이 스마트폰 중독에 미치는 영향)

  • Purpose: This study aims to prevent Smartphone addiction and provide a basic material for intervention strategy by inquiring into the correlation between interpersonal relations competency and Smartphone addiction. Methods: This study carried out a questionnaire survey oriented to 323 people who agreed to participate in this research. For the final analysis, this study selected 298 sheets of questionnaires excluding 25 sheets with insufficient response qualities. Results: According to the results of regression analysis, significant correlation between interpersonal relations competency and Smartphone addiction level was not observed. However, according to the results of correlation analysis, the subordinate factor of Smartphone addiction "directionality of virtual world" showed a significant negative correlation with "opinion expression regarding rights or refusal" of interpersonal relations competency (p<0.05), while "withdrawal," the subordinate factor of interpersonal relations competency and Smartphone addiction displayed a negative correlation with Smartphone addiction (p<0.05). Conclusion : However, the mean of the 3DP group was within the clinical tolerance suggested by the previous researchers. Based on this, dental prosthesis fabricated by 3D printing technology is considered to be clinically acceptable.

Abusive Supervision: Domestic Research Trends and Future Research Directions: Focusing on Antecedents and Outcome Variables (비인격적 감독의 국내 연구 동향과 향후 방향성: 선행요인과 결과변수를 중심으로)

  • Purpose - This study reviewed domestic empirical studies on abusive supervision published from 2009 to 2020 and summarized the accumulated results. In particular, this study classified previous studies on abusive supervision as antecedents (supervisor characteristics, subordinate characteristics, and contextual factors) and outcome variables (cognition/awareness, affection/emotion, attitude, behavior, and others). Based on the results, this study suggested potential issues of previous studies and future directions for abusive supervision. In addition, this study proposed the academic and practical implications and limitations. Design/methodology/approach - The domestic studies on abusive supervision can be divided into antecedents and outcome variables, and each study was organized into the characteristics of the supervisor, subordinate, and situational characteristics, and the resultant variables were divided into cognition/awareness, affection/emotion, attitude, behavior, and others. Finding - Prior studies on abusive supervision had several limitations in obtaining clear results with individual characteristics or fragmented approaches at the organizational level. In the future, more comprehensive approaches will be needed. Research implications or Originality - This study will provide academic and practical implications for future research on abusive supervision by deepening an understanding of the negative consequences of abusive supervision.

The effect of semantic categorization of episodic memory on encoding of subordinate details: An fMRI study (일화 기억의 의미적 범주화가 세부 기억의 부호화에 미치는 영향에 대한 자기공명영상 분석 연구)

  • Grouping episodes into semantically related categories is necessary for better mnemonic structure. However, the effect of grouping on memory of subordinate details was not clearly understood. In an fMRI study, we tested whether attending superordinate during semantic association disrupts or enhances subordinate episodic details. In each cycle of the experiment, five cue words were presented sequentially with two related detail words placed underneath for each cue. Participants were asked whether they could imagine a category that includes the previously shown cue words in each cycle, and their confidence on retrieval was rated. Participants were asked to perform cued recall tests on presented detail words after the session. Behavioral data showed that reaction times for categorization tasks decreased and confidence levels increased in the third trial of each cycle, thus this trial was considered to be an important insight where a semantic category was believed to be successfully established. Critically, the accuracy of recalling detail words presented immediately prior to third trials was lower than those of followed trials, indicating that subordinate details were disrupted during categorization. General linear model analysis of the trial immediately prior to the completion of categorization, specifically the second trial, revealed significant activation in the temporal gyrus and inferior frontal gyrus, areas of semantic memory networks. Representative Similarity Analysis revealed that the activation patterns of the third trials were more consistent than those of the second trials in the temporal gyrus, inferior frontal gyrus, and hippocampus. Our research demonstrates that semantic grouping can cause memories of subordinate details to fade, suggesting that semantic retrieval during categorization affects the quality of related episodic memory.

A study on 'lèi[類]' and 'míng[名]' in early China (중국 고대의 '류(類)'와 '명(名)')

  • The purpose of this paper is to study logical status and meaning of '$l{\grave{e}}i$[類]' in integrated concept system of 'míng[名]'. The subordinate relationships and integrated systems between genus and species are made up 'míng[名]' in pre-Chin's logical arguments. And '$l{\grave{e}}i$[類]' is a concept that designate what kind of category in all names of sorts and kinds in early China. The logical argumentations of early Chinese philosophers reflect subordinate relationship and integrated system of 'míng[名]'. And then early Chinese philosophers use the 'míng[名]' in other to denote a general concept that totally indicate meanings of genus and species like as Confucius' '$zh{\grave{e}}ng$ míng[正名]'. However early Chinese philosophers make philosophical issues of correspondence between míng[名] and shí[實], not subordinate relationships between genus and species. And then they use the 'míng[名]' in other to denotes not a general concept but a kind of category. Therefore the concept of 'míng[名]' used as a meaning of general concept and sorted out integrated concept system of 'míng[名]' as two categories of míng[名] and shí[實] at the same time in logical argumentations of early Chinese philosophers. The '$l{\grave{e}}i$[類]' of pre-Chin difference from genus of Aristotle spontaneously and conceptually. It is not a concept that in other to compose subordinate relationships and integrated systems. It is not a kind of genus. It divide a kind of denotation that means some kind of aggregations into existence and nonexistence. And it divide a kind of connotation that means some kind of attributes into same and difference. When early Chinese philosophers make distinction and demonstration the correspondence between míng[名] and shí[實], so to speak distinction mean to divide and classify into correspondence or non-correspondence, and demonstration mean to argue about the division and classification. Therefore the concept of '$l{\grave{e}}i$[類]' is a criteria that is to divide and classify the correspondence between míng[名] and shí[實] in integrated concept system of 'míng[名]'.

Effects of Teaching Behavior Type of Expression Activity Class on Flow and Competence in Elementary School (초등학교 표현활동수업에서의 교수행동유형이 몰입과 유능감에 미치는 영향)

  • The purpose of this study was to know the effects of teaching behavior type of expression activity class on flow and competence in elementary school. The subject for this research consisted of elementary students located in Busan were selected as a population. The sampling method was convenience sampling out of non-probability sampling method. A total of 300 questionnaires were distributed and 280 copies were collected back. Out of those returned questionnaires, insincerely replied or double-replied questionnaires were excluded and finally 216 questionnaires were analyzed for this study. Collected data were put to frequency analysis, exploratory factor analysis reliability analysis, correlation analysis, and multiple regression analysis using the SPSS Win Ver. 22.0 program. The results of these analyses are as follows. First, the commanding type, the autocratic type, the democratic type and the reward type which are the subordinate variables of the teaching behavior type, were all found to have significant effects on the flow. Second, the democratic type and the reward type which are the subordinate variables of the teaching behavior type, were found to have significant effects on the competence. But, the commanding type and the autocratic type which are the subordinate variables of the teaching behavior type, were not found to have significant effects on the competence. Third, the flow were found to have significant effects on the competence.

  • In the 21st century, the Korean university education system is focused on innovation and change, including cooperation between industry and universities. It should be a goal to foster an industry-university ecosystem through interactions between universities and industry. Therefore, it is important to measure their relationships and to find advisable ways to measure the final results of industry-university cooperation. This paper sets out the achievements in cooperation and the satisfaction from such enterprises and measures mutual relationships influencing satisfaction from industry-university cooperation as to adherence and cooperation. Therefore, this research focuses on regression equation analysis in order to analyze the influence from satisfaction with industry-university cooperation based on factors in the relations between industry and universities. Also, as we examined the multicollinearity problem, before analyzing multiple regression, the multicollinearity problem appeared to be relatively irrelevant. In particular, the satisfaction variable, which can also be set as a subordinate variable, was in this research constructed as a high-dimensional subordinate variable composed of five individual variables. We then analyzed how the adherence construct factor and degree of cooperation construct factor influences the respective and subordinate satisfaction variables. As a result, the degree of realization of local customized programs was shown by the most significant variables. The biggest factor influencing satisfaction with industry-university cooperation proves the degree of realization for appropriate programs under local conditions, such as education, research, and technique guidance.
