  • Objective : This study aimed to evaluate the relationship between comorbid obsessive compulsive disorder (OCD) and quality of life in stable patients with schizophrenia. Methods : We interviewed 162 symptom-stable inpatients who have been on a constant dose of antipsychotics for at least 3 months prior and diagnosed as chronic schizophrenia. Subsequently, patients were classified according to the existence of OCD as evaluated using the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders-IV (DSM-IV). Further, all clinical and demographic data were collected and evaluated. To investigate potential interrelationships, the Yale-Brown Obsessive-Compulsive Scale (Y-BOCS), Korea-Positive and Negative Symptom Scale (K-PANSS), Korean Modification of the Scale to Measure Subjective Well-Being under Neuroleptic Treatment (KmSWN) and Korean Version Quality of Life Scale (K-QOLS) were performed. Independent t-test and Chi-square test were used to compare groups and regression analysis was done to assess the relationship between the Y-BOCS and quality of life. Results : Schizophrenia patients with OCD showed significantly earlier onset of schizophrenia, more severe psychiatric symptoms and lower quality of life, compared to those without comorbid OCD. OCD might be associated with lower quality of life in schizophrenia. Conclusion : Schizophrenia patients with OCD showed lower quality of life than those without OCD. In the treatment for schizophrenia, evaluation of OCD might be needed to improve their quality of life and social function.

  • The purpose of this paper was to present the proximity of clothing to self(PCS) which is a subjective measure developed by Sontag and Lee(2004). PCS is the scale to examine the relationship between self and clothing. Since PCS scale was prepared for American consumers, it is necessary to verify the validity as a measure to Korean consumers. Consumers' quality of life are functionally related to satisfaction with all of life's domain and subdomains. Clothing in life facilitates the creativity and expressiveness to the wearer, especially to adolescent. The concept of bottom-up spillover effect developed by Lee et al.(2002) was adopted as research model. Data were gathered by surveying university students using convenient sampling, 419 questionnaires were used in the statistical analysis. It was proved that PCS scale was effective measure to Korean consumers. And also PCS scale could be a proxy indicator in view of the fact that clothing was deeply related to consumers' quality of life.

This study was conducted to present a social integration model for the purpose of solving the social problem of social integration of multicultural families. The purpose of this study is as follows. First, this study examines the role of local social capital for social integration by improving the quality of life of multicultural families and increasing their intention to participate in society. Second, the purpose of this study is to examine the effects of multicultural family members on the formation of local social capital, subjective quality of life and social participation intention, focusing on the role of social enterprises. To achieve the purpose of this study, members of multicultural families living in Seoul and Gyeonggi Province were selected as samples, and responses to local social capital, subjective quality of life, social participation intention and social identity were collected through structured questionnaires. A total of 363 valid questionnaires were tested for the relationship between variables through the structural equation model. The analysis result of this study is that first, human social capital and corporate social capital of members of multicultural families have a significant positive effect on subjective quality of life. Second, it was found that the corporate social capital and community social capital of members of multicultural families had a significant positive effect on the intention to participate in society. Third, it was found that the subjective quality of life of members of multicultural families did not significantly affect their intention to participate in society. Finally, it was found that social identity plays a partly controlling role when community capital of multicultural family members affects their intention to participate in society. Through this analysis result, it is expected that it will play a meaningful role as basic data for policy proposals for social integration of multicultural families.

  • Purpose: In modern society, many urban problems are occurring, such as aging, hollowing out old city centers and polarization within cities. In this study, we intend to apply big data and machine learning methodologies to predict depression symptoms in the elderly population early on, thus contributing to solving the problem of elderly depression. Research design, data and methodology: Machine learning techniques used random forest and analyzed the correlation between CES-D10 and other variables, which are widely used worldwide, to estimate important variables. Dependent variables were set up as two variables that distinguish normal/depression from moderate/severe depression, and a total of 106 independent variables were included, including subjective health conditions, cognitive abilities, and daily life quality surveys, as well as the objective characteristics of the elderly as well as the subjective health, health, employment, household background, income, consumption, assets, subjective expectations, and quality of life surveys. Results: Studies have shown that satisfaction with residential areas and quality of life and cognitive ability scores have important effects in classifying elderly depression, satisfaction with living quality and economic conditions, and number of outpatient care in living areas and clinics have been important variables. In addition, the results of a random forest performance evaluation, the accuracy of classification model that classify whether elderly depression or not was 86.3%, the sensitivity 79.5%, and the specificity 93.3%. And the accuracy of classification model the degree of elderly depression was 86.1%, sensitivity 93.9% and specificity 74.7%. Conclusions: In this study, the important variables of the estimated predictive model were identified using the random forest technique and the study was conducted with a focus on the predictive performance itself. Although there are limitations in research, such as the lack of clear criteria for the classification of depression levels and the failure to reflect variables other than KLoSA data, it is expected that if additional variables are secured in the future and high-performance predictive models are estimated and utilized through various machine learning techniques, it will be able to consider ways to improve the quality of life of senior citizens through early detection of depression and thus help them make public policy decisions.

  • The purpose of this study was to examine the differences in satisfaction of leisure life and quality of life using standardized evaluation tools developed by WHO. Resource availability when dining out was measured by objective index(time of dining out, dining out expense) and subjective index(perceived satisfaction with time of dining out and dining out expense). In this study, 500 questionnaires(male & female adults) located in Seoul and the metropolitan area were sampled by convenience sampling and gather in 433 sheets of questionnaire. Data was analyzed by frequency analysis, factor analysis, reliability analysis, correlation analysis and regression analysis using SPSS Win 12.0. As a result there was high positive correlation between time of dining out, dining out expense and perceived satisfaction with time of dining out and dining out expense. Moreover, dining out resources impact on leisure life satisfaction and quality of life. Leisure life satisfaction had fairly high effects on quality of life. Since there is an increase in leisure time the desire to improve quality of life while enjoying dining out as a part of leisure life is increasing and as various forms of consumption takes place, it suggests that segmentation of dining out market is necessary and marketing strategy should be established.
