Basic Research on Women Engineering Recognition by Using Triangulation Method (삼각측정법을 적용한 여성 공학도 인식에 관한 기초조사)

  • The purpose of this study is to research the women engineers' recognition with a triangulation method and make suggestions on desirable education in engineering. The research period is for about 4 months from December 15, 2007 to April 4, 2008. The objects of the research are two groups of female engineers at D college located in the metropolitan area - the first group had 187 women engineering majors, 3 women graduate students and 2 women professors in engineering department, and the second group had 5 women engineering majors who once stayed out of school temporarily, 4 women engineering graduates, and 5 graduates who are currently working. The second group is intently selected in order to look into the detailed factors that affect the recognition of women engineers. The methods of the research varied and included were surveys on the web, personal interviews, focus meetings, surveys by e-mail and telephone, etc. The results of the study show what the women engineers want in engineering education includes to have role models of women engineers who can cast a vision to them, get a leadership training especially for when they lead a group that has both man and woman members. It was also found that experincing a cooperative learning through diverse projects is essential to build basic character training and competency, and practical education is required for the major or becoming a full time worker.

Concept Mapping Analysis on the Meaning of Coffee-Drinking Behavior (커피음용행동의 의미와 목적에 대한 개념도 분석)

  • It has been suggested that few studies were completed on psychological aspect of coffee drinking behavior though coffee researches have been mainly focused on marketing or business purposes. In this study, fifteen university students were participated to a group interview for concept mapping analysis asking about their meaning and purpose of coffee drinking behavior. Sixty nine statements were extracted from the interview, and categorized into seven clusters using multi dimensional scaling analysis and hierarchical cluster analysis. Seven clusters were Personal method of getting the desired physical effect, As a method of social activities, Method to get psychological consolation, Drink for spending time and using space, Habitual drink and use of caffeine's effect, Enjoying coffee's various characteristic and attraction, and Enjoying coffee's various characteristic and attraction. Two factors were identified based on these clusters such as internal-external motivation to drink coffee and emotional-physical effect of coffee. Participants ranked their priority of those clusters; the cluster of "Drink for spending time and using space" was first ranked. Limitations and suggestions for future research were also discussed.

Development of Emotion Assessment Scale in Evaluation of Television Picture Quality (TV 화질에 대한 감성평가척도 개발)

  • The article reports findings on: (1) development of emotion assessment scale in evaluating the Television(TV) picture quality; and (2) how psychological and physical factors relate to TV picture quality. A total of 152 adjectives that specifically describe emotional reactions were first selected from a Korean dictionary of adjectives, followed by ratings on their suitability for the evaluation of TV picture quality. The final selection of 19 adjective, based on the reported rating scores greater than 4.1, were used on 126 college students who were asked to perform similarity ratings on the adjectives. Based on factor analyses (i.e., principal component analysis with oblique rotation) on the similarity of scores, the following adjectives were selectively chosen for the development of the new emotion assessment scale: 'neat-messy', 'refreshing-gloomy', 'clean-dirty', 'comfortable-tense', 'smooth-rough', 'bright-dark', 'gorgeous-plain', 'diverse-monotonous', 'satisfying', 'natural', and 'sensuous'. These adjectives composed into two distinct constructs, 'cleanness or smart' factor and 'gorgeousness' factor, which demonstrated sensitivity to changes in brightness, contrast, color, and tint in the TV picture quality, except for changes in sharpness.

Characteristics of the Process of Visual Attention during Spatial Depth Perception (공간의 깊이감 지각과정에 나타난 시각정보획득 특성)

  • Understanding the process of spatial perception plays a significant role in the design process as well as in the use of actual spaces. The perception of spatial depth can vary according to the space composition and design even there is no change in the actual size of the space. The properties of 3-dimensional space are its width, height, and depth; however, compared to the perception of spatial width and height, little research and theories exist on spatial depth perception. The reasons may be there less interest lies in the effect of spatial depth perception than that of spaciousness or height of space. This study is an investigation of the process of spatial depth perception using an eye-tracking device with stimuli developed through Computer Graphics. A total of 44 interior design major students participated in the eye tracking experiment; and they looked at three images comprised of an identical room with only changes in the rear wall condition. The results show that a significant difference in the fixation duration per stimulus exists. In addition, a significant difference exists on the fixation duration per stimulus according to the participants' answer of the deepest space. The result of this study can help identify factors for spatial depth perception, validate the assumption on it, and provide knowledge on how to acquire desirable spatial depth by utilizing the research result.

A casestudy-Composition with basic objectswas exea.rted by individual for distributed asynchronous rmde. The results of this thesis are summarized for four factors. Rrst, it was easy to transform idea. Serond, student-oriented working was performed. Third, interaction among students was activated. Fourth, not only final results, but also midterm results was oonsidered for evaluation. These methods also have problems as rerent instruction methods, but it rould be used as a instruction tool to compensate for existing instruction methods.

Subtypes based on the psychological characteristics of perpetrators of school violence (학교폭력 가해 학생의 심리적 특성에 따른 유형)

  • The purpose of this study is to classify the subtypes of perpetrators of school violence based on their psychological characteristics. In order to classify the students, questionnaires/interviews which consist of 6 factors (Cognitive Impulsivity, Unplanned Impulsivity, Depression, Anxiety, Peer Conformity, and Self assertion) and 19 questions were administered to 86 perpetrators of school violence. Then, a two-step cluster analysis was performed with the survey results of 74 perpetrators. As a result, three clusters were identified and named as follows: 1) Impulsive Vulnerability, 2) Emotional Vulnerability, and 3) Social Vulnerability. Scrutinizing the detailed characteristics of each cluster, the first cluster, Impulsive Vulnerability, showed higher scores on Cognitive Impulsivity and Unplanned Impulsivity, compared to the other two clusters, while Depression and Anxiety scores were lower. The second cluster, Emotional Vulnerability, showed higher scores on Depression and Anxiety, while Cognitive Impulsivity and Unplanned Impulsivity scores were lower. The third cluster, Social Vulnerability, showed the highest score on Peer Conformity among the three clusters. However, Self assertion scores were the lowest in this cluster, and Cognitive Impulsivity, Unplanned Impulsivity, depression, and anxiety scores were lower than in the others. This study will provide a useful insight for facilitating teachers and parents' understanding of the psychological characteristics of school violence perpetrators and thereby contributing to effective intervention.

Understanding Characteristics of the Gifted in Invention for Establishing the Concept of the Gifted in Invention (발명영재상 수립을 위한 발명영재의 특성 이해)

  • Educating gifted students in invention is a totally new area for researchers as well as educators. Establishing the theoretical concept of the gifted in invention has been a challenging task to many education researchers in Korea for last several years. This study was conducted to understand characteristics of the gifted in invention with the eventual purpose to conceptualize 'giftedness in invention.' The Future Mind by Gardner was adopted as the frame for categorizing the characteristics of the gifted in invention. Based on Five Minds, this study listed 25 factors with their 80 characteristics after intensive literature review and field surveys. The findings of this study are expected to contribute to establishing the theoretical base of educating the gifted in invention, to identifying gifted youngsters to be great inventors, and to designing the educational programs for them.

  • In the research and analysis for survey practice on stability on the nutrition intake relities to an affect influence factor for variable reason to discovers dweller in cities area which is in order to prevent an unfortunately influence that thus obviously restricted by nutrition intake would be restoration. And then attempted to avhivement of stability fulfil to correct nutrition intake needed under the establish for effectiveness measured to provide the primary required resources be considerations must accomplish certain survey of goals. Therefore subject of criticism for survey was conducted during January 4 1990 to January 24 1990 through 20 days adapted place were Seoul, Taegu and Pohang cities dweller 1206 person be conducted under the expert survey personnel by directly the survey was conducted with the questional form has atapted for its survey conclusion of result be summarixed as bellow. 1) The subject of criticism for survey was ferformed to personnel adapted age group 40 to 49 were 24.9%, Age group 50 to 59 were 18.4% shows most adult group has significant higher value rate appearenced. In consideration the education level were evaluated the college grauated ; 48.8% and High School graduated: 30.1% shows that more educated level has significant higher rate value were appearenced. 2) On the subject of criticism to evaluation for adapted personnel by native place such as larger citypeople ; 29.6%, Farming and fishing village people were 28.4%, although the classfication of job analysis for estimation appearence rate were ; students 27.4%, Sales and service field personnel rate ; 15.1% and expert technique field personnel were ; 90% comprehensively appearenced. Although consideration for ecnomics situation review to the middle level shows of rate ; 61.7% and lower level was appearenced rate ; 23.9% of each others. 3) The people of resident in cities were appearenced nutrition intake has more than 2 weeks continuousely practiced by experiance rate shows ; 72% thus intake has experianced rate were 74.6% and female was 68.5% affact is comprehensively male has more many higher rate valued. In the classfication by age group 60 year old has 100% they have experiaced of nutrition intake and age group 50 to be appearenced its rate ; 76.4 % and age group 40 were 75.5% Thus result of survey for comparative rate shows in generally say more aged group has intake significant higher than younger age of group. Nevertheless, age group 10 years old be experienced of nutrition of intake rate ; 63.2% and age group 20 shows 73.9% was comparative more significant higher than age group 30 years old level adolescents.

Black ginseng-enriched Chong-Myung-Tang extracts improve spatial learning behavior in rats and elicit anti-inflammatory effects in vitro

  • Background: Chong-Myung-Tang (CMT) extract is widely used in Korea as a traditional herbal tonic for increasing memory capacity in high-school students and also for numerous body ailments since centuries. The use of CMT to improve the learning capacity has been attributed to various plant constituents, especially black ginseng, in it. Therefore, in this study, we have first investigated whether black ginseng-enriched CMT extracts affected spatial learning using the Morris water maze (MWM) test. Their molecular mechanism of action underlying improvement of learning and memory was examined in vitro. Methods: We used two types of black ginseng-enriched CMT extracts, designated as CM-1 and CM-2, and evaluated their efficacy in the MWM test for spatial learning behavior and their anti-inflammatory effects in BV2 microglial cells. Results: Our results show that both black ginseng-enriched CMT extracts improved the learning behavior in scopolamine-induced impairment in the water maze test. Moreover, these extracts also inhibited nitric oxide production in BV2 cells, with significant suppression of expression of proinflammatory cytokines, especially inducible nitric oxide synthase, cyclooxygenase-2, and $interleukin-1{\beta}$. The protein expression of mitogen-activated protein kinase and nuclear $factor-{\kappa}B$ pathway factors was also diminished by black ginseng-enriched CMT extracts, indicating that it not only improves the memory impairment, but also acts a potent anti-inflammatory agent for neuroinflammatory diseases. Conclusion: Our research for the first time provides the scientific evidence that consumption of black ginseng-enriched CMT extract as a brain tonic improves memory impairment. Thus, our study results can be taken as a reference for future neurobehavioral studies.

Credibility Judgement of Information by Tweens (트윈세대의 정보 신뢰성 판단에 관한 연구)

  • This study investigates the credibility judgements of information by tweens using digital media and information. Particularly, the study focused on tweens' perception of internet research and information use and on their credibility judgement of source and message, internet service providers, and on consulting with others for their credibility judgement. The survey methodology was used to collect data from grade 5 and 6 students in two elementary schools whose parents are likely in middle and upper class. 336 valid questionnaires were collected among 400. Descriptive statistics, factor analysis, and t-test were used to analyze the data collected using SPSS 25. Findings suggested that tweens understood the importance of using smart media and computers, that they used Youtube, Naver, Kakao talk, Naver JisikIN much in sequence, and that they believed the Internet research was easy and fun. Using exploratory factor analysis, the survey questions for credibility judgement were classified into three factors: Internet service providers, sources and information, and consulting with others. Tweens used sources and information credibility, consulting with others credibility, Internet service providers credibility in sequence. However, it was interesting to find that there were greater deviation in answers on knowing how to find out the cognitive authority of the authors and on the importance of using current information. This study suggests the critical need for tweens' credibility judgement research for promoting critical thinking skills as well as for proactive educational practices in schools and libraries on information literacy.
