  • Sustainability continues to gain traction in all industry sectors as people become aware of the advantages of green products. The voluntary use of green products in buildings in the United States continues to grow due to long-term cost saving and the ecological benefit to nature. The voluntary installation of green products is associated with end-users' expectations and perceptions including cost saving, sustainable behavior, and social responsibility. Although involuntary use of green products has similar expectations and perceptions, the installation decision is not based on the goodwill from end-users. This paper surveys college students to capture current experience levels, expectations, and perceptions in regard to green products and/or sustainability and to understand their attitudes about involuntary use of a green product. The installation of low water pressure showerheads in a dormitory provides data to support perception, expectation, and future direction of adoption of green products in public buildings. This information may be used to facilitate sustainable behaviors among involuntary groups regarding to the adoption of green products. The primary objective of this paper is to investigate the college students' perception of a green product, particularly when the students are involuntarily exposed to the green products. As a secondary objective, the paper also attempts to address the college students' general understanding on sustainability and green products. The findings of this study could support the growing importance of sustainable behavior among higher education beyond social responsibility and provide a benchmark against which to improve future change while fostering sustainable behaviors over time among the public.

  • This research is to investigate the perception and satisfaction of high school students for Saenghwal Hanbok school uniforms. With this study we will be able to provide useful information for clothing companies as well as schools which are planning to introduce Saenghwal Hanbok as a uniform. The research subjects included 446 high school students of Chungcheong and Gyeonggi areas. The results of this study are as follows: 1. Male students evaluated Saenghwal Hanbok affirmatively in terms of its activity convenience. Female students, on the other hand, thought highly of it in such aspects as modern beauty, aesthetic color, distinction, symmetry, wearability, tidiness, color harmony, color unity, decoration details, and suitability for special occasions as well as modem daily life. 2. The satisfaction with Saenghwal Hanbok as a school uniform stayed, on an average, below a mid-level. It appeared that high schools with long history showed more interest than comparatively newly-established schools. Also, students with obesity liked Saenghwal Hanbok more than normal students. 3. The students' demand for price cut was highest among other demands of Saenghwal Hanbok school uniform. • The purpose of this study was to investigate the influences of adolescents' body image and communication with their parents on the alienation of male and female middle school students. The subjects were 253 middle school students. The data were analyzed with SPSS win 18.0 using Cronbach's ${\alpha}$, t-test, one-way ANOVA, Scheff$\acute{e}$ test and stepwise regression. The findings showed that problematic communication with the father was the strongest factor in explaining the alienation of male middle school students. The second strongest factor was the middles school student's open communication with the mother, and the third strongest factor was the middle school student's perception of physical health. Unlike male students, open communication with the father was the strongest factor in explaining the alienation of female middle school students. Problematic communication with the mother was the second strongest factor. Perception of physical appearance was the third strongest, and perception of physical health was the fourth strongest factor. Based on the results of the study, implications were discussed in terms of the alienation of male and female middle school students.

  • The purpose of this study was to investigate perception of the Food Allergy Labeling System (FALS) of school foodservice in female middle school students. The subjects were 148 female middle school students in the Incheon metropolitan area. In this cross-sectional study, data were collected using self-administered questionnaires. Only 20.9% of subjects had experience of food allergy education. There was no significant difference in food allergy knowledge by grade. The scores of perception of food allergy labeling by school foodservice were significantly higher in lower grade students (p<0.001). In all grades, highest scores were observed for 'food allergy labeling is necessary', whereas the lowest scores were for 'I check the food allergy labeling'. The percentages of subjects who wanted to participate in food allergy education were significantly different (p<0.01); 73.8% in 1st grade, 50.0% in 2nd grade, and 35.7% in 3rd grade. For desired education contents to enhance perception of FALS, 57.5% of subjects answered 'emergency management' and 23.0% said 'information of food allergy causing food'. Therefore, it is necessary to increase food allergy education and educate female middle school students according to grade in order to enhance perception of FALS.
