  • The innovative intelligent fuzzy weighted input estimation method which efficiently and robustly estimates the unknown time-varying input force in on-line is presented in this paper. The algorithm includes the Kalman Filter (KF) and the recursive least square estimator (RLSE), which is weighted by the fuzzy weighting factor proposed based on the fuzzy logic inference system. To directly synthesize the Kalman filter with the estimator, this work presents an efficient robust forgetting zone, which is capable of providing a reasonable compromise between the tracking capability and the flexibility against noises. The capability of this inverse method are demonstrated in the input force estimation cases of the plate structure system. The proposed algorithm is further compared by alternating between the constant and adaptive weighting factors. The results show that this method has the properties of faster convergence in the initial response, better target tracking capability, and more effective noise and measurement bias reduction.

  • A digitally controlled phase-locked loop (DCPLL) is described. The DCPLL has basically the same structure as a conventional analog PLL except for a tracking analog-to-digital converter (ADC). The tracking ADC generates the control signal for voltage controlled oscillator. Since the DCPLL employs neither digitally controlled oscillator nor time-to-digital converter-the key building blocks of digital PLL (DPLL), there is no need for the 03de-off between jitter, power consumption and silicon area. The DCPLL was implemented in a $0.18\mu$m CMOS process and the active area is 1mm $\times$0.35 mm The DCPLL consumes S9mW during the normal opuation and $984\{mu}W$ during the power-down mode from a 1.8V supply. The DCPLL shows 16.8ps ms jitter.

  • In this paper, we proposed a new W-band monopulse tracking system based on reflectarray antenna structure. The proposed reflectarray antenna monopulse tracking system consists of four feed horn antennas and a planar reflector using a microstrip reflectarray. The four feed horn antennas have a gain of 10 dBi and a half-power beam-width of 56 degrees symmetrically in the E/H plane. It was confirmed that the reflectarray antenna using one feed horn antenna has a size of 41.8 × 41.8 mm2, a gain of 26.8 dBi, and a half-power beam-width of about 5.6 degrees. The reflectarray monopulse tracking system using 4 feeding horn antennas is well matched from 75 GHz to 90 GHz, and the isolation is secured by more than 10 dB. Finally, the proposed system shows the tracking range of 5.98 degrees and the tracking error range was 0.02 degrees.

  • Purpose: To Study the dosimetric advantage of the Jaw tracking technique in intensity-modulated radiotherapy (IMRT) and volumetric-modulated arc therapy (VMAT) for Head and Neck Cancers. Materials and Methods: We retrospectively selected 10 previously treated head and neck cancer patients stage (T1/T2, N1, M0) in this study. All the patients were planned for IMRT and VMAT with simultaneous integrated boost technique. IMRT and VMAT plans were performed with jaw tracking (JT) and with static jaw (SJ) technique by keeping the same constraints and priorities for a particular patient. Target conformity, dose to the critical structures and low dose volumes were recorded and analyzed for IMRT and VMAT plans with and without JT for all the patients. Results: The conformity index average of all patients followed by standard deviation (${\bar{x}}{\pm}{\sigma}_{\bar{x}}$) of the JT-IMRT, SJ-IMRT, JT-VMAT, and SJ-VMAT were $1.72{\pm}0.56$, $1.67{\pm}0.57$, $1.83{\pm}0.65$, and $1.85{\pm}0.64$, and homogeneity index were $0.059{\pm}0.05$, $0.064{\pm}0.05$, $0.064{\pm}0.04$, and $0.064{\pm}0.05$. JT-IMRT shows significant mean reduction in right parotid and left parotid shows of 7.64% (p < 0.001) and 7.45% (p < 0.001) compare to SJ-IMRT. JT-IMRT plans also shows considerable dose reduction to thyroid, inferior constrictors, spinal cord and brainstem compared to the SJ-IMRT plans. Conclusion: Significant dose reductions were observed for critical structure in the JT-IMRT compared to SJ-IMRT technique. In JT-VMAT plans dose reduction to the critical structure were not significant compared to the SJ-IMRT due to relatively lesser monitor units.

  • This paper proposes a new fuzzy controller using variable structure control theory. In this paper, after the time-varying fuzzy sliding surface is designed, the fuzzy rules are defined based on the variable structure control theory. This design method makes the fuzzy controller design more structured and can guarantee the stability and robustness of the fuzzy controller and overcome the shortcoming of the variable structure system. Through computer simulation and experiment of nonlinear inverted pendulum system, this thesis demonstrate that system has the robustness against disturbance and modelling error, and the tracking performance of it is improved.

  • A new filtering algorithm for radar tracking is developed based on the fact that correct evaluation of the measurement error covariance can be made possible by doing it with respect to the Cartesian state vector. The new filter may be viewed as a modification of the extended Kalman filter where the variance of the range measurement errors is evaluated in an adaptive manner. The structure of the proposed filter allows sequential measurement processing scheme to be incorporated into the scheme, and this makes the resulting algorithm favorable in both estimation accuracy and computational efficiency.

  • In this paper, we present a wavelet neural network (WNN) approach to the solution of the path tracking problem for mobile robots that possess complexity, nonlinearity and noise. First, we discuss a WNN based control system where the control signals are directly obtained by minimizing the difference between the reference track and the pose of a mobile robot. This compact network structure is helpful to determine the number of hidden nodes and the initial value of weights. Then, the data with various noises provided by odometric and external sensors are here fused together by means of an Extended Kalman Filter (EKF) approach for the pose estimation problem of mobile robots. This control process is a dynamic on-line process that uses the wavelet neural network trained via the gradient-descent method with estimates from EKF. Finally, we verify the effectiveness and feasibility of the proposed control system through simulations.

  • This paper proposes a new linear recursive target state estimator for automotive collision warning system. The target motion is modeled in Cartesian coordinate system while the radar measurements such as range, line-of-sight angle and range rate are obtained in polar coordinate system. To solve the problem by nonlinear relation between these two coordinate system, a practical linear filter design scheme employing the predicted line-of-sight Cartesian coordinate system (PLCCS) is proposed. Especially, PLCCS can effectively incorporate range rate measurements into target tracking system. It is known that the utilization of range rate measurements enables the improvement of target tracking performance. Moreover, PLCCS based target tracking system is implemented by linear recursive filter structure and hence is more suitable scheme for the development of reliable collision warning system. The performance of the proposed method is demonstrated by computer simulations.

  • This paper presents a new velocity estimation strategy of a non-salient permanent magnet synchronous motor(PMSM) drive without high frequency signal injection or special PWM pattern. This approach is based on the d-axis current regulator output voltage of the drive system which has the information of rotor position error. The rotor velocity can be estimated through a rotor position tracking PI controller that controls the position error to aero. For zero and low speed operation, the PI gains of rotor position tracking controller have a variable structure. The PI tuning formulas are derived by analyzing this control system using the frequency domain specifications such as phase margin and bandwidth assignment.
