  • In this paper, a method for controlling the a single-phase grid-connected photovoltaic(PV) system using Z-source inverter (ZSI) is proposed. The operating region of grid-connected ZSI system with a variation of PV output voltage are analyzed by considering the voltage stress across switching devices. The switching patterns for controlling effectively the shoot-through time while reducing the switching loss are suggested. Both the simulation studies and experimental results with 32-bit DSP are carried out to verify the performances of proposed system.

  • This paper studies a soft switching DC/DC converter to achieve zero voltage switching (ZVS) for all switches under a wide range of load condition and input voltage. Two three-level PWM circuits with the same power switches are adopted to reduce the voltage stress of MOSFETs at $V_{in}/2$ and achieve load current sharing. Thus, the current stress and power rating of power semiconductors at the secondary side are reduced. The series-connected transformers are adopted in each three-level circuit. Each transformer can be operated as an inductor to smooth the output current or a transformer to achieve the electric isolation and power transfer from the input side to the output side. Therefore, no output inductor is needed at the secondary side. Two center-tapped rectifiers connected in parallel are used at the secondary side to achieve load current sharing. Due to the resonant behavior by the resonant inductance and resonant capacitance at the transition interval, all switches are turned on at ZVS. Experiments based on a 1kW prototype are provided to verify the performance of proposed converter.

  • In this paper, a zero current transition (ZCT) double-ended flyback converter is proposed. All of the switching elements act under soft switching conditions and the voltage stress of the main switches is limited to the input voltage due to the innate behavior of the double-ended flyback converter. Providing soft switching conditions and clamping the voltage stress improves the efficiency and electromagnetic compatibility (EMC). The Proposed converter is analyzed in detail and its operating modes are discussed in detail. Experimental results are presented to verify the theoretical predictions. Moreover, the conducted electromagnetic emissions of the proposed ZCT double-ended flyback converter are measured to show another merit of the proposed converter in addition to providing soft switching conditions. The measured electromagnetic interference (EMI) of the proposed converter demonstrates that its EMI is lower than the conventional double-ended flyback converter. Furthermore, two simple and cost effective EMI reduction methods are applied to satisfy the EMC standard.

  • In light of the sure protection function, the most important factors of a varistor are the clamping voltage ratio and degradation characteristics. The degradation characteristics of Pr/Co/Cr/Er co-doped zinc oxide varistors were investigated by impulse currents (0.4~2.1 kA) stress for the specified content of $Er_2O_3$ (0.5 and 2.0 mol%). The varistor doped with 2.0 mol% $Er_2O_3$ exhibited the best clamp characteristics, with the clamp voltage ratio (K) in the range of K = 1.63~1.88 at the impulse currents of 5-50 A. However, the varistor doped with 0.5 mol% exhibited excellent electrical stability, with variation rates for the breakdown field, for the nonlinear coefficient, and for the leakage current density of -6.9%, -12.6%, and -14.3%, respectively, after application of an impulse current of 2.1 kA. In contrast, the varistor doped with 2.0 mol% was destroyed after application of an impulse current of 1.2 kA.

  • In this paper, a new soft-switching Two-switch Forward converter topology has been proposed. Compared with conventional two-switch forward converter, the proposed converter employs an auxiliary switch and a clamp capacitor to instead of two reset diodes, not only its duty cycle can exceed 0.5 to achieve wide range input voltage, but also soft switching can be achieved for all switches. Especially, voltage stress across main switches can be clamped at $1/2V_{in}$, voltage stress across auxiliary switch can be clamped at $V_{in}$. In addition, due to clamp capacitor series with the transformer, duty ratio can be extended with equation $V_o=\frac{V_{in}(1-D}D{N}$. Therefore, as a kind of better cost-effective approach, it is very attractive for high input, wide range and high efficiency application.

  • This paper proposes a modularized two-stage charge equalization converter for a series-connected lithium-ion battery string. In this paper, the series-connected battery sting is modularized into M modules, and each module has K cells in series. With this modularization, low voltage stress on the electronic devices can be achieved. A two-stage dc-dc converter with cell selection switches is employed. The first stage dc-dc converter steps down the high bus voltage to about 10 V. The second stage dc-dc converter integrated with selection switches equalizes the cell voltages. A prototype for 88 lithium-ion battery cells is optimally designed and implemented. Experimental results verify that the proposed equalization method has good cell balancing performance showing low voltage stress, small size, and low cost.

  • We have investigated degradation of short channel n-type poly-Si TFTs with LDD under high gate and drain voltage stress due to self-heating. We have found that the threshold voltage of short channel TFT is shifted to negative direction on the selfheating stress, whereas the threshold voltage of long channel is moved to positive direction.

  • The multi-resonant converter(MRC) can reduce the switching losses exiting in a converter, so it is capable of operating at a high frequency. Such a few MHz high frequency application provides a high power density [$W/inch^{3}$]. But the high voltage stress across a switch of the resonant circuit is about 4$\sim$5 times the input voltage, it causes increasing of the conduction loss in MRC. In this paper, the mode analysis for the suggested AT Forward MRC with low voltage stress is discussed. The operational modes of the AT Forward MRC are divided to 8 equivalent modes according to the two switching sequences, Each mode is analyzed over all of the paper.

  • This paper presents an accelerated life test for burn out of tungsten filament of automotive halogen lamp. There are many failure modes and failure factors that associated with tungsten filament. But in this explain the dominant failure mode of tungsten filament is the bumout of the filament failure. At first, over voltage, high temperature, inrush current and vibration are selected as stress factors by using of two stage Quality Function Deploymeng(QFD). And we planed accelerated life test that has one factor(voltage) and three levels. By experiment it has absorbed that over voltage has an effect on the life of halogen lamp. Using ALTA programs, we estimated the common shpae parament of Weibull distribution, life-stress relationship and $B_{100p}$ life.
