  • This paper proposes an expert system which is able to enhance the accuracy and productivity by determining the test strategy based on heuristic rules for test of the hybrid electronic circuit board producted massively in production line. The test heuristic rules are obtained from test system designer, test experts and experimental results. The guarding method separating the tested device with circumference circuit of the device is adopted to enhance the accuracy of measurements in the test of analog devices. This guarding method can reduce the error occurring due to the voltage drop in both the signal input line and the measuring line by utilizing heuristic rules considering the device impedance and the parallel impedance. Also, PSA(Parallel Signature Analysis) technique Is applied for test of the digital devices and circuits. In the PSA technique, the real-time test of the high integrated device is possible by minimizing the test time forcing n bit output stream from the tested device to LFSR continuously. It is implemented in Visual C++ computer language for the purpose of the implementation of the inference engine using the dynamic memory allocation technique, the interface with the electronic circuit database and the hardware direct control. Finally, the effectiveness of the builded expert system is proved by simulating the several faults occurring in the mounting process the electronic devices to the surface of PCB for a typical hybrid electronic board and by identifying the results.

  • There have already been studies analyzing the trajectories of objects from data streams of moving objects. Among those studies, there are also studies to discover groups of objects that move together, called companion groups. Most studies to discover companion groups use existing clustering techniques to find groups of objects close to each other. However, these clustering-based methods are often difficult to find the right companion groups because the number of clusters is unpredictable in advance or the shape or size of clusters is hard to control. In this study, we propose a new method that discovers companion groups based on the distance specified by the user. The proposed method does not apply the existing clustering techniques but periodically determines the groups of objects close to each other, by using a technique that efficiently finds the groups of objects that exist within the user-specified distance. Furthermore, unlike the existing methods that return only companion groups and their trajectories, the proposed method also returns their appearance and disappearance time. Through various experiments, we show that the proposed method can detect companion groups correctly and very efficiently.

  • A rapid expansion of the moist air or stream through transonic nozzle often leads to not-equilibrium condensation shock, causing a considerable amount of energy loss to the entire flow field. Depending on amount of heat released, condensation shock wave occurs in the nozzle and interacts with the boundary layer flow. In the current study, a passive control technique using a porous wall with a plenum cavity underneath is applied for purpose of alleviation the condensation shock wave in a transonic nozzle. A droplet growth equation is incorporated into two-dimensional wavier-Stokes equation systems. Computations are carried out using a third-order MUSCL type TVD finite-difference scheme with a second-order fractional time step. An experiment using an indraft transonic wind tunnel is made to validate the present computational results. The results obtained show that the magnitude of condensation shock wave is reduced by the current passive control method.

  • Rapid expansion of a moist air or a stream through a supersonic nozzle often leads to non-equilibrium condensation shock wave, causing a considerable energy loss in flow field. Depending on amount of latent heat released due to non-equilibrium condensation, the flow is highly unstable or a periodical oscillation accompanying the condensation shock wave in the nozzle. The unsteadiness of the condensation shock wave is always associated with several kinds of instabilities as well as noise and vibration of flow devices. In the current study, a passive control technique using a porous wall with a plenum cavity underneath is applied for the purpose of alleviation of the condensation shock oscillations in a transonic nozzle. A droplet growth equation is coupled with two-dimensional Navier-Stokes equation system. Computations are carried out using a third-order MUSCL type TVD finite-difference scheme with a second-order fractional time step. An experiment using an indraft wind tunnel is made to validate the present computational results. The results show that the oscillations of the condensation shock wave are completely suppressed by the current passive control method.

  • This paper proposes high performance coprocessor architecture for real time dense disparity computation based on a phase-based binocular stereo matching technique called local weighted phase-correlation(LWPC). The algorithm combines the robustness of wavelet based phase difference methods and the basic control strategy of phase correlation methods, which consists of 4 stages. For parallel and efficient hardware implementation, the proposed architecture employs SIMD(Single Instruction Multiple Data Stream) architecture for each functional stage and all stages work on pipelined mode. Such that the newly devised pipelined linear array processor is optimized for the case of row-column image processing eliminating the need for transposed memory while preserving generality and high throughput. The proposed architecture is implemented with Xilinx HDL tool and the required hardware resources are calculated in terms of look up tables, flip flops, slices, and the amount of memory. The result shows the possibility that the proposed architecture can be integrated into one chip while maintaining the processing speed at video rate.

  • Recently, the frequency of severe storms increases in Korea. Severe storms occurring in a short time cause huge losses of both life and property. A considerable research has been performed for the flood control system development based on an accurate stream discharge prediction. A physical model is mainly used for flood forecasting and warning. Physical rainfall-runoff models used for the conventional flood forecasting process require extensive information and data, and include uncertainties which can possibly accumulate errors during modelling processes. ANFIS, a data driven model combining neural network and fuzzy technique, can decrease the amount of physical data required for the construction of a conventional physical models and easily construct and evaluate a flood forecasting model by utilizing only rainfall and water level data. A data driven model, however, has a disadvantage that it does not provide the mathematical and physical correlations between input and output data of the model. The characteristics of a data driven model according to functional options and input data such as the change of clustering radius and training data length used in the ANFIS model were analyzed in this study. In addition, the applicability of ANFIS was evaluated through comparison with the results of HEC-HMS which is widely used for rainfall-runoff model in Korea. The neuro-fuzzy technique was applied to a Cheongmicheon Basin in the South Han River using the observed precipitation and stream level data from 2007 to 2011.

  • This paper introduces a novel and fast synthesizing method for 3D motions of quadrupedal animals that uses only a small set of motion capture data. Unlike human motions, animal motions are relatively difficult to capture. Also, it is a challenge to synthesize continuously changing animal motions in real time because animals have various gait types according to their speed. The algorithm proposed herein, however, is able to synthesize continuously varying motions with proper limb configuration by using only one single cyclic animal motion per gait type based on the biologically driven Froude number. During the synthesis process, each gait type is automatically determined by its speed parameter, and the transition motions, which have not been entered as input, are synthesized accordingly by the optimized asynchronous motion blending technique. At the start time, given the user's control input, the motion path and spinal joints for turning are adjusted first and then the motion is stitched at any speed with proper transition motions to synthesize a long stream of motions.

  • This paper proposes a new method for the discovery and design of an optimal heat exchanger network. The method is based upon the concept of pinch, a problem reduction technique and the heuristics developed in this work. It generates subproblems in a logical way and solves the subproblems by the heuristics to synthesize an optimal network structure. It is thought that the heuristics can preserve the minimum utility consumption, the minimum number of heat exchanger units, and the minimum number of stream splittings needed for a given problem. The minimum heat exchanger area for the optimal network can then be obtained by adjusting the temperatures associate with the heat exchanger in the optimal network structure. The method is applied to the problems appeared in the literatures. The results show the reductions in the number of heat exchanger units for some problems.
