Carbon fiber reinforced polymer (CFRP) has extensive use in strengthening reinforced concrete structures due to its high strength and elastic modulus, low weight, fast and easy application, and excellent durability performance. Many studies have been carried out to determine the performance of the CFRP confined concrete cylinder. Although studies about the prediction of confined compressive strength using ANN are in the literature, the insufficiency of the studies to predict the strain of confined concrete cylinder using ANN, which is the most appropriate analysis method for nonlinear and complex problems, draws attention. Therefore, to predict both strengths and also strain values, two different ANNs were created using an extensive experimental database. The strength and strain networks were evaluated with the statistical parameters of correlation coefficients (R2), root mean square error (RMSE), and mean absolute error (MAE). The estimated values were found to be close to the experimental results. Mathematical equations to predict the strength and strain values were derived using networks prepared for convenience in engineering applications. The sensitivity analysis of mathematical models was performed by considering the inputs with the highest importance factors. Considering the limit values obtained from the sensitivity analysis of the parameters, the performances of the proposed models were evaluated by using the test data determined from the experimental database. Model performances were evaluated comparatively with other analytical models most commonly used in the literature, and it was found that the closest results to experimental data were obtained from the proposed strength and strain models.
The hyperbolic stress-strain model has been shown to be valid for modeling nonlinear stress-strain behavior for rockfill materials. The Duncan-Chang nonlinear constitutive model was adopted to characterize the behavior of the modeled rockfill materials in this study. Accurately estimating the model parameters of rockfill materials is a key problem for simulating dam deformations during both the dam construction period and the dam operation period. In order to estimate model parameters, triaxial compression experiments of rockfill materials were performed. Based on a genetic algorithm, the constitutive model parameters of the rockfill material were determined from the triaxial compression experimental data. The investigation results show that the predicted strains provide satisfactory precision when compared with the observed strains and the strains forecasted by a gradient-based optimization algorithm. The effectiveness of the proposed inversion procedure of model parameters was verified by experimental investigation in a laboratory.

An analytical compressive stress-strain relationship model for circular and rectangular concrete specimens confined with laminated carbon fiber sheets (CFS) is studied. Tsai-Hill and Tsai-Wu failure criteria were used to implement orthotropic behavior of laminated composite materials. By using these criteria, an algorithm which analyzes the confinement effect of CFS on concrete was developed. The proposed analytical model was verified through the comparison with experimental data. Various parameters such as concrete strength, ply angle, laminate thickness, section shape, and ply stacking sequences were investigated. Numerical results by the proposed model effectively simulate the experimental compressive stress-strain behavior of CFS confined concrete specimens. Also, the pro-posed model estimates the compressive strength of the specimen to a high degree of accuracy.

This work describes a method of determining material parameters included in recrystallization and grain growth models. Focus is on the recrystallization and grain growth models of Ni-Fe base superalloy, Alloy 718. High temperature compression tests at different strain, strain rate and temperature conditions were chosen to determine the material parameters of dynamic recrystallization model. The critical strain and dynamically recrystallized grain size and fraction at various process variables were quantitated with the microstructual analysis and strain-stress relationships of the compression tests. Besides, isothermal heat treatments were utilized to fit the material constants included in the grain growth model. Verification of the determined material parameters is carried out by comparing the measured data obtained from other compression tests.

This paper presents the newly developed model for the stress-strain relationship of ultra high- strength concrete on the basis of the more refined statistical to analysis the various test results available in the literature to be more rigorous in accuracy and generalized scheme. Through the comprehensive analysis of the previously existing equations for each model, multiple curves equation has turned out to be most appropriate to simulate the linearly varying ascending branch and brittle type of descending one. The principal variables to model the stress-strain relationship such as the modulus of elasticity, ultimate strain and deformation characteristics due to stress softening phenomenon were extensively studied to be simplified in the function of the concrete compressive strength.
With the continuous increase of computational capacity, more and more complex nonlinear elastoplastic constitutive models were developed to study the mechanical behavior of elastoplastic materials. These constitutive models generally contain a large amount of physical and phenomenological parameters, which often require a large amount of computational costs to determine. In this paper, an inverse parameter determination method is proposed to identify the constitutive parameters of elastoplastic materials, with the consideration of both strain rate effect and temperature effect. To carry out an efficient design, a hybrid optimization algorithm that combines the genetic algorithm and the Nelder-Mead simplex algorithm is proposed and developed. The proposed inverse method was employed to determine the parameters for an elasto-viscoplastic constitutive model and Johnson-cook model, which demonstrates the capability of this method in considering strain rate and temperature effect, simultaneously. This hybrid optimization algorithm shows a better accuracy and efficiency than using a single algorithm. Finally, the predictability analysis using partial experimental data is completed to further demonstrate the feasibility of the proposed method.
To properly extract the strain components under varying operational conditions is very important in bridge health monitoring. The abnormal sensor readings can be correctly identified and the expected operational performance of the bridge can be better understood if each strain components can be accurately quantified. In this study, strain components under varying load conditions, i.e., temperature variation and live-load variation are evaluated based on field strain measurements collected from a real concrete box-girder bridge. Temperature-induced strain is mainly regarded as the trend variation along with the ambient temperature, thus a smoothing technique based on the wavelet packet decomposition method is proposed to estimate the temperature-induced strain. However, how to effectively extract the vehicle-induced strain is always troublesome because conventional threshold setting-based methods cease to function: if the threshold is set too large, the minor response will be ignored, and if too small, noise will be introduced. Therefore, an autoencoder framework is proposed to evaluate the vehicle-induced strain. After the elimination of temperature and vehicle-induced strain, the left of which, defined as the model error, is used to assess the operational performance of the bridge. As empirical techniques fail to detect the degraded state of the structure, a clustering technique based on Gaussian Mixture Model is employed to identify the damage occurrence and the validity is verified in a simulation study.
The performance of several turbulence models in computing an axisymmetric supersonic base flow is investigated. A compressible Navier-Stokes code, which incorporates k-ε, k-ω model and Reynolds stress closure with three kinds of pressure-strain correlation model, has been developed using implicit LU-SGS algorithm with second-order upwind TVD scheme. Numerical computations have been carried out for Herrin and Dutton's base flow. It is observed that the two-equation models give large backward axial velocity approaching to the base and somewhat larger variation of base pressure distribution than the Reynolds stress model. It is also found that the Reynolds stress model with third order pressure-strain model in the anisotropy tensor predicts most accurate mean flow field.

A new nonlinear near-wall turbulence model is developed to predict turbulent flow and heat transfer in strongly nonequilibrium flows. The k-$\varepsilon$-f$\sub$${\mu}$/, model of Park and Sung$\^$(1)/ is extended to a nonlinear formulation. The stress-strain relationship is the thrid-order in the mean velocity gradients. The strain dependent coefficients are obatined from the realizability constraints and the singular behavior at large strains. An improved explicit heat flux model is proposed with the aid of Cayley-Hamilton theorem. This new model includes the quadratic effects of flow deformations. The near-wall asymptotic behavior is incorporated by modifying the f$\sub$λ/ function. The model performance is shown to be satisfactory.
We proposed the improved Langmuir adsorption relations considering volume change effect of coal matrix during primary production of CBM and Enhanced-CBM with injection of carbon dioxide or CCS in coalseam but also volumetric strain. To verify this model, experimental data of pure gas adsorption such as $CO_2$, $CH_4$, and $N_2$ on coals were used to compare conventional Langmuir model with this model. From the results, we obtained that the larger adsorption capacity of coal and the higher adsorption affinity of gas, the larger error occur with Langmuir model. Using this model, however, we found not only substantially better fit in all condition but also reasonable volumetric strain of the coal matrix. We also applied this volume modified pure gas adsorption model to the IAS model to describe gas adsorption and volumetric strain for mixed gas. This modified-IAS model fitting experimental data by Hall et al(1994) improved accuracy of mixed gas adsorption calculation compared with conventional model.
