  • In order to improve the storage ability of Spur Red Delicious apple, calcium ingredients were applied to the apple tree during the growing period, and then the effects of calcium on appearances and respiratory activity of harvest apples were investigated during the storage period. The results of this work were summarized as follows: 1. The freshness of apples treated by calcium compounds reached $73{\sim}78%$, but that of control group was 68% by March of next year. 2. The respiratory rate of the apples that had been applied the high concentration of ammonium sulfate in field during the growing period, was accelerated rather than control group, and that of calcium treatment groups was continuously inhibited during the storage period. 3. The direct foliar application of calcium compounds in the field was more effective than dipping apples in calcium chloride solution for better quality and improving storage ability after harvest. 4. The freshness and hardness relatively not much decreased in calcium treatment groups even after 5 month storage.

  • The functional sausage added to effective extracts are prepared to carried out to investigate functional and storage characteristics. This products were stored at different temperature. The changes of pH were tended to be a little ranged from pH 6.07 to pH 6.35 in control. At the same time, the pH changes treated with plant extracts showed the same tendency as control. The treatments using natural extracts revealed a little low TBARS value during storage at 10$^{\circ}C$. The nitrite scavenging ability of extracts from pine needle were higher than those of green tea extracts, irrespective of storage temperature. The VBN content was tended to be increased as storage time goes by, irrespective of storage temperature. The treatments using plant extracts revealed a little low VBN content, compared to control during storage. The changes of total bacteria were more increased to 2.2${\times}$10$^1$∼3.2 ${\times}$ 10$\^$6/ CFU/g during storage at 30$^{\circ}C$ than 2.2${\times}$10$^1$∼3.3${\times}$10$^2$CFU/g in case of storage at 10$^{\circ}C$. The treatments using plant extracts revealed an antimicrobial activity until storage at 3 days, compared to control. The lightness of sausage color were a little more decreased gradually during storage at 30$^{\circ}C$ than those of storage at 10$^{\circ}C$. Overall, the lightness of sausage color treated with pine needle extracts were a more bright than those of control. However, the redness of sausage color treated with pine needle and green tea showed the most lowest red color, compared to control. Sensory test suggested that the changes of sausage color, flavor, texture and taste were tended to be decreased gradually. In conclusion, pine needle extract was the most effective natural resources on the basis of the functional and physico-chemical properties of sausage of sausage.

  • Three kinds of porous polymer were synthesized using a solvothermal of tri-4,4'-diphenylmethane diisocyanate (MDI-trimer) and different diamino monomers. The effects of the synthesis conditions and the monomer selection on the synthesis of porous polymer properties were studied. The results show that the synthesis of $NH_2$-containing monomer molecules smaller the microporous polymers was easy to implement; the specific surface areas of the polymers are related to the monomer ratio and the reaction time. The results show that the synthesized porous polymer had good hydrogen storage performance; the hydrogen storage ability improved with the addition of heterocyclic nitrogen.

  • Concentrated solar power(CSP) is receiving attention for its ability to generate dispatchable power from heat stored in thermal energy storage(TES). There are currently four types of CSP technology, however experts expect that only parabolic trough and solar tower are to survive from the market due to its higher efficiency and larger capacity in storage. While the initial cost for installing CSP plant is still expensive, the experts expect that investment cost of CSP would decline to the level which would be competitive with PV or wind in the near term future. In addition, further growth in its installation capacity is expected due to the United States and China's aggressive investments in CSP.

  • A non-isolated Multiple Input Converter (MIC) with an input port, two storage ports and a load port is proposed. The synthesis of the proposed four port converter with its switch realization is presented. A steady state analysis of each operating mode with a small-signal model is derived, and a stability analysis is done. A mode selection controller is proposed to automatically choose a specific operating mode based on the voltage levels of the different source and storage units. In addition, a voltage control loop is used to regulate the output voltage. A 200W prototype is built with a TMS320F28027 DSP controller to test the feasibility of the operating modes. Simulation and experimental results show the ability of the proposed converter to handle multiple inputs either individually or simultaneously.

  • Twigs bearing floral buds of Rhododendron yedoense var. poukhanense(Ryp) and R. sinmsii(Rs), hardy species in Korea, were used to investigate the cold hardiness in relation to the developmental and anatomical characteristics, and the changes of water content. In floral buds of both species, the reproductive organs, pistils and stamens, matured within the bud scales in early ctober to prepare for a cold acclimation. The ray parenchymatous areas occupied in xylem were 41% in Ryp and 38% Rs. As the storage temperature is raised from 2 to 17$^{\circ}C$, water content increased more highly in Rs than in Ryp. Exotherm temperature of floral bud in Ryp was generally lower than that in Rs. The result supports that the higher cold-hardiness is achieved owing to the earlier maturation of floral buds, to the larger area of ray parenchyma in xylem, and to the lesser increase of water content as the storage temperature is raised.

  • The binding ability and hydrogen storage capacity of nitrogen doped carbon nanotube with divacancy (4NDCNxNT) that is decorated with transition metals was investigated based on density functional theory calculations. Results indicate that scandium shows an ideal reversible hydrogen binding capability with promising system-weight efficiency compared with other transition metals when functionalized with 4ND-CNxNT. The (Sc/4ND)10-CNxNT can store up to 50H2 molecules, corresponding to a maximum gravimetric density of 5.8 wt%. Detailed structural stability and electronic properties were reported as hydrogen molecules were absorbed. It takes about 0.16 eV/H2 to add one H2 molecule, which assures reversible storage of H2 molecules under ambient conditions.

  • This paper proposes an analytic tool for long-term generation expansion planning based on the maximum principle. Many research works have been performed in the field of generation expansion planning. But few works can be found with the maxinmum principle. A recently published one worked by professor Young Moon Park et al. shows remarkable improvements in modeling and computation. But this modeling allows only thermal units. This paper has extended Professor Park's model so that the optimal pumped-storage operation is taken into account. So the ability for practical application is enhanced. In addition, the analytic supply-shortage cost function is included. The maximum principle is solved by gradient search due to its simplicity. Every iteration is treated as if mathematical programming such that all controls from the initial to the terminal time are manipulated within the same plane. Proposed methodology is tested in a real scale power system and the simulation results are compared with other available package. Capability of proposed method is fully demonstrated. It is expected that the proposed method can be served as a powerful analytic tool for long-term generation expansion planning.
