  • The purpose of this paper is to study new notions of stochastic comparisons and ageing classes based on the total time on test transform order. We give relationships to other stochastic orders and aging classes given previously. Several preservation properties under the reliability operations of random minima and series system are given.

  • The purpose of this paper is to investigate the properties of order statistics under various stochastic relations. We study the stochastic comparison of order statistics in a single sample. And we consider two sample case too. For example, F(t) > G9t) for t > 0 when X and Y are random variables symmetric about 0, with c.d.f.s F and G. Two examples are provided.

  • Due to an increased demand for longevity risk analysis, various stochastic models have been suggested to evaluate uncertainly in estimated life expectancy and the associated value of future annuity payments. Recently updated data allow us to analyze mortality for a longer historical period and extended age ranges. This study followed up previous case studies using up-to-date empirical data on Korean mortality and the recently developed R package StMoMo for stochastic mortality models analysis. The suitability of stochastic mortality models, focusing on retirement ages, was investigated with goodness-of-fit, validity of models, and ability of generating reasonable sets of simulation paths of future mortality. Comparisons were made across various types of models. Based on the selected models, the variability of important estimated measures associated with pension, annuity, and reverse mortgage were quantified using simulations.

  • We consider a Markovian retrial queue with waiting space in which the service rates and retrial rates depend on the number of customers in the service facility and in the orbit, respectively. Each arriving customer from outside or orbit decide either to enter the facility or to join the orbit in Bernoulli manner whose entering probability depend on the number of customers in the service facility. In this paper, a stochastic order relation between two bivariate processes(C(t), N(t)) representing the number of customers C(t) in the service facility and one N(t) in the orbit is deduced in terms of corresponding parameters by constructing the equivalent processes on a common probability space. some applications of the results to the stochastic bounds of the multi-server retrial model are presented.

Stochastic space vibration analysis of a train-bridge coupling system

  • The Pseudo-Excitation Method (PEM) is applied to study the stochastic space vibration responses of train-bridge coupling system. Each vehicle is modeled as a four-wheel mass-spring-damper system with two layers of suspension system possessing 15 degrees-of- freedom. The bridge is modeled as a spatial beam element, and the track irregularity is assumed to be a uniform random process. The motion equations of the vehicle system are established based on the d'Alembertian principle, and the motion equations of the bridge system are established based on the Hamilton variational principle. Separate iteration is applied in the solution of equations. Comparisons with the Monte Carlo simulations show the effectiveness and satisfactory accuracy of the proposed method. The PSD of the 3-span simply-supported girder bridge responses, vehicle responses and wheel/rail forces are obtained. Based on the $3{\sigma}$ rule for Gaussian stochastic processes, the maximum responses of the coupling system are suggested.

Scour around vertical piles due to random waves alone and random waves plus currents on mild slopes

  • This paper provides a practical stochastic method by which the maximum equilibrium scour depth around a vertical pile exposed to random waves plus a current on mild slopes can be derived. The approach is based on assuming the waves to be a stationary narrow-band random process, adopting the Battjes and Groenendijk (2000) wave height distribution for mild slopes including the effect of breaking waves, and using the empirical formulas for the scour depth on the horizontal seabed by Sumer and Fredsøe (2002). The present approach is valid for wave-dominant flow conditions. Results for random waves alone and random wave plus currents have been presented and discussed by varying the seabed slope and water depth. An approximate method is also proposed, and comparisons are made with the present stochastic method. For random waves alone it appears that the approximate method can replace the stochastic method, whereas the stochastic method is required for random waves plus currents. Tentative approaches to related random wave-induced scour cases on mild slopes are also suggested.

Optimum Chycle Time and Delay Caracteristics in Signalized Street Networks (계통교통신호체계에서의 지체특성과 최적신호주기에 관한 연구)

  • The common cycle time for the linded signals is usually determined for the critical intersecion, just because the cpacity of a signalized intersection depends on the cycle time. This may not be optimal since the interactions between the flow and the spatial structure of the route or the area are disregarded in this case. It is common to separate the total delay incurred at signals into two parts, a deterministic or uniform delay and a stochastic or random delay. The deterministic delays and the stochastic delays on the artery particularly related to signal cycle time. For this purpose a microscopic simulation technique is used to evaluate deterministic delays, and a macroscopic simulation technique based on the principles of Markov chains is used to evaluate stochastic delays with over flow queue. As a result of investigating the relations between deterministic delays and cycle time in the various circumstances of spacing of signals and traffic volume. As for stochastic delays the resalts of comparisons of the macroscopic simulation and Newell's approximation with the microscopic simulation indicate that the former is valid for the degree of saturation less than 0.95 and the latter is for that above 0.95. Newell's argument that the total stochastic delay on an arterial is dominated by that at or caused by critical intersection is certified by the simulation experiments. The comprehensive analyses of the values of optimal cycle time with various conditions lead to a model. The cycle time determined by this model shows to be approximately 70% of that calculated by Webster's.
