  • In this paper, the static and dynamic characteristics in the sensor tube of a mass flow controller(MFC) were studied by experiments. In the sensor tube of MFC. the difference of temperature between inlet and outlet was necessary for calculating the mass flow rate. Therefore, the relations among flow rate, heat generated by heating wire. and sensor location were investigated to find optimized condition. Finally, the relation between sensor voltage through analog digital conversion(ADC) and flow rate in the sensor tube can be represented. Based on this study, static and dynamic characteristics of sensor tube can be used for design of mass flow controller.

  • In rigid-plastic finite element method, there is a heavy computation time and convergence problem. In this study. static-explicit rigid-plastic finite element method will be introduced. This method is the way that restrict the convergence interval. In result, convergence problem and computation time due to large non-linearity in the existing numerical analysis method were no longer a critical problem. Also, we investigated the effect of punch stroke and the strain increment this method. It is expected that various results from the numerical analysis will give very useful information for the design of tools in sheet metal forming process.

  • The static stability of a high-speed hovercraft is estimated by model tests, simplified restoring moment equations and CFD. Well-known methods to increase the stability of hovercrafts are introduced. Roll and pitch moments of a scaled model with a skirt system are measured over inclination angles. The tests are performed on cushion at zero speed both on-land and over-water. To predict the static stability performance, simple restoring moment equations and CFD approach are introduced. Both shows a quantitative difference from the model test results, however, could be used as a design tool for relative comparison prior to model tests.

  • The safety evaluations of railway wheelsets make use of the static fracture toughness obtained in ingot materials. The static fracture toughness of wheelset materials has been extensively studied by experiments, but the dynamic fracture toughness with respect to wheelset materials has not been studied enough yet. It is necessary to evaluate the characteristics of the fracture mechanics depending on each location for a full-scale wheelset for high-speed trains, because the load state for each location of the wheelset while running is different the contact load between the wheel and rail, cyclic stress in the wheel plate, etc. This paper deals with the fracture toughness depend on load rates. The fracture toughness depending on load rate data shows that once the downward curve from quasi-static values was reached, subsequent values showed a slow increase with respect to the impact velocity. This means that dynamic fracture toughness should be considered in the design code of the wheelset material.

  • In this study, transient and quasi-static analysis were done for the evaluation of structural integrity of the platform screen door due to train wind pressure. Fluent 6.0 was used to calculate the train wind pressure, and Ansys 10.0 was used to evaluate the structural stability of platform screen door due to train wind pressure. Transient analysis was used to check the design requirements of platform screen door, and quasi-static analysis was introduced to save the calculating time and check quickly structural performances when compared to those of transient analysis. The results show that structural stability of the platform screen door under train wind pressure is proven and quasi-static analysis can quickly check the structural integrity of platform screen door.

  • Detecting a set of longest paths is one of the crucial steps in static timing analysis and optimization. Recently, the process variation during manufacturing affects performance of the circuit design due to nanometer feature size. Measuring the performance of a circuit prior to its fabrication requires a considerable amount of computation time because it requires multi-corner and multi-mode analysis with process variations. An efficient algorithm of detecting the K-most critical paths in multi-corner multi-mode static timing analysis (MCMM STA) is proposed in this paper. The ISCAS'85 benchmark suite using a 32 nm technology is applied to verify the proposed method. The proposed K-most critical paths detection method reduces about 25% of computation time on average.

  • In the analysis and design of reinforced concrete frames beam-column joints are sometimes assumed as rigid. This simplifying assumption can be unsafe because it is likely to affect the distributions of internal forces and moments, reduce drift and increase the overall load-carrying capacity of the frame. This study is concerned with the relevance of shear deformation of beam-column joints, in particular of exterior ones, on the quasi-static behavior of regular reinforced concrete sway frames. The included parametric studies of a simple sub-frame model reveal that the quasi-static monotonic behavior of unbraced regular reinforced concrete frames is prone to be significantly affected by the deformation of beam-column joints.

  • Recently, the motor-integrated spindle systems have been used to simplify the machine tool structure, to improve the motion flexibility of machine tool, and to perform the high-speed machining. In this study, a static and dynamic analysis system for motor-integrated high-speed spindle systems is developed based on Timoshenko theory, finite element method and windows programming techniques. Since the system has various analysis modules related to static deformation analysis, modal analysis, frequency response analysis, unbalance response analysis and so on, it is useful in performing systematically the design and evaluation processes of motor-integrated high-speed spindle systems under windows GUI environment.

  • This paper investigates the static configurations and the dynamic behaviors of a single point mooring line. To obtain the static configuration and static tension distribution along the mooring line, including the effect of fluid nonlinear drag and the elasticity of the line, the Runge-Kutta fourth order numerical method was used. The relationship between the horizontal excursion and the horizontal restoring force component of the mooring line, which is very important to a mooring line design, and the effect of a subsurface buoy on the static configuration are presented. In nonlinear dynamic analysis including nonlinear fluid drag acting on the line and geometrical nonlinearity for large deflections, finite element method using updated Lagrangian was used to obtain the solution. In the case of upper end harmonic excitation of the mooring line, the dynamic motion and the tension were also presented.
