Due to their high sensitivity, fast response, small energy consumption and ease of integration, nanoelectromechanical systems (NEMS) have attracted much interest in various applications such as high speed memory devices, energy harvesting devices, frequency tunable RF receivers, and ultra sensitive mass sensors. Since the device performance of NEMS is closely related with the mechanical and flexural properties of the material in NEMS, analysis of the mechanical and flexural properties such as intrinsic tensile stress and Young's modulus is a crucial factor for designing the NEMS structures. In the present work, the intrinsic mechanical properties of highly stressed silicon nitride (SiN) beams are investigated as a function of the beam length using two different techniques: (i) dynamic flexural measurement using optical interferometry and (ii) quasi-static flexural measurement using atomic force microscopy. The reliability of the results is analysed by comparing the results from the two different measurement techniques. In addition, the mass density, Young's modulus and internal stress of the SiN beams are estimated by combining the techniques, and the prospect of SiN based NEMS for application in high sensitive mass sensors is discussed.
Selective laser melting (SLM) is an additive manufacturing process by melting metallic powders and stacking into layers, and can product complex shapes or near-net-shape (NNS) that are difficult to product by conventional processes. Also, SLM process is able to raise the efficiency of production by creating a streamlined manufacturing process. For manufacturing in SLM process using Ti-6Al-4V powder, analysis of microstructural evolution and evaluation of mechanical properties are essential because of rapid melting and solidification process of powders according to high laser power and rapid scan speed. In addition, it requires a post-processing because the soundness and mechanical properties are degraded by defects such as pore, un-melted powder, lack-of-fusion, etc. In this study, hot isostatic press (HIP) was conducted as a post-processing on SLM-printed Ti-6Al-4V alloy. Microstructure of post-processed Ti-6Al-4V alloy was compared to as-built Ti-6Al-4V, and the evolution of quasi-static (Vickers hardness, room temperature tensile characteristic) and dynamic (high-cycle fatigue characteristic) mechanical properties were analyzed.
In this study, an effective load increment method for multi modal adaptive non-linear static (pushover) analysis (NSA) for building type structures is presented. In the method, lumped plastisicity approach is adopted and geometrical non-linearties (second-order effects) are included. Non-linear yield conditions of column elements and geometrical non-linearity effects between successive plastic sections are linearized. Thus, load increment needed for formation of plastic sections can be determined directly (without applying iteration or step-by-step techniques) by using linearized yield conditions. After formation of each plastic section, the higher mode effects are considered by utilizing the essentials of traditional response spectrum analysis at linearized regions between plastic sections. Changing dynamic properties due to plastification in the system are used on the calculation of modal lateral loads. Thus, the effects of stiffness changes and local mechanism at the system on lateral load distribution are included. By using the proposed method, solution can be obtained effectively for multi-mode whereby the properties change due to plastifications in the system. In the study, a new procedure for determination of modal lateral loads is also proposed. In order to evaluate the proposed method, a 20 story RC frame building is analyzed and compared with Non-linear Dynamic Analysis (NDA) results and FEMA 356 Non-linear Static Analysis (NSA) procedures using fixed loads distributions (first mode, SRSS and uniform distribution) in terms of different parameters. Second-order effects on response quantities and periods are also investigated. When the NDA results are taken as reference, it is seen that proposed method yield generally better results than all FEMA 356 procedures for all investigated response quantities.

Elastomers, which are engine mounts and body mounting rubbers, are traditionally designed for NVH use in vehicles, and they are designed to isolate specific unwanted frequencies. According to the measurement of the characteristics of engine mounts and body mounting rubbers, dynamic stiffness changes with respect to the driving miles accumulated in engine mounts and initial load in body mounting. This study looks at the variability in same engine mount properties, and the desired dynamic stiffness may increased with driving miles accumulated. And the dynamic stiffness of body mounting rubber changes very stiff above 150Hz.

The identification of the dynamic properties of structural joints is important for predicting the dynamic behavior of assembled systems. However, the identification of the properties using analytical or experimental approaches is extremely difficult or even impossible. Several studies have proposed hybrid or synthesis methods that simultaneously used analytical and experimental approaches to identify the dynamic properties of a joint. However, among the many types of joints, only the bolt joint was treated as a practical example in these studies. In this study, for a simple assembly system comprising two plates and one hinge joint, a simple methodology involving the use of the static-based subpart analysis method to identify the dynamic properties is proposed. Finally, the proposed method is applied to a glove box in a passenger vehicle that includes hinge joints.

This paper presents to predict the powertrain structure-borne noise which is primary resource of interior noise. As the first step, it is built up a hybrid powertrain model which is based on the real powertrain which is verified with static and dynamic properties. The methods for verifying are modal analysis and running vibration testing which are experimentally implemented. Based on the Hybrid powertrain component model, an initial predictive assembly model is simulated. As the second step, the characteristic transfer functions are measured that are dynamic stiffness of rubber mounts and vibro-acoustic transfer function based on the acoustic reciprocity. Several techniques utilizing special experimental devices have been proposed for this research. Finally, the structure-borne noise by powertrain will be predict and verify with dynamic simulation and experiment.
Vibration, buckling and dynamic stability of a cantilever rectangular plate subjected to an in-plane sinusoidally varying load applied along the free end are analyzed. The thin plate small deflection theory is used. The Rayleigh-Ritz method is employed to solve vibration and buckling of the plate. The dynamic stability problem is solved by using the Hamilton principle to drive time variables. The resulting time variables are solved by the harmonic balance method. Buckling properties and natural frequencies of the plate are shown at first. Unstable regions are presented for various loading conditions. Simple parametric resonances and combination resonances with sum type are obtained for various loading conditions, static load and damping.
This paper is intended to investigate interaction response of a train running over a suspension bridge undergoing support settlements. The suspension bridge is modeled as a single-span suspended beam with hinged ends and the train as successive moving oscillators with identical properties. To conduct this dynamic problem with non-homogeneous boundary conditions, this study first divides the total response of the suspended beam into two parts: the static and dynamic responses. Then, the coupled equations of motion for the suspended beam carrying multiple moving oscillators are transformed into a set of nonlinearly coupled generalized equations by Galerkin's method, and solved using the Newmark method with an incremental-iterative procedure including the three phases: predictor, corrector, and equilibrium-checking. Numerical investigations demonstrate that the present iterative technique is available in dealing with the dynamic interaction problem of vehicle/bridge coupling system and that the differential movements of bridge supports will significantly affect the dynamic response of the running vehicles but insignificant influence on the bridge response.

Urethane is a high polymeric and elastic material useful in designing mechanic parts that cannot be molded with rubber or plastic material. In particular, urethane is high in mechanical strength and anti-abrasive. Hereby, a urethane coated aluminum wheel is used to support of the OHT vehicle moving back and forth to transport products. For the sake of verifying the safety of the vehicle, structural safety fur applied maximum dynamic load on a urethane wheel must be examined carefully while driving. Therefore, we performed a dynamic simulation on the OHT vehicle model and we determined the driving load. The area definition of applied load may be obtained from the previous study of Hertzian and Non-Hertzian contact force model having exact properties of contact material. But the static analysis is simulated after we have performed the actual contact area test for each load since the proper material properties of urethane have not been guaranteed. In this study, the method of distributing loads for each node is included. Finally, in coMParison with the results of analysis and load-displacement curve obtained from the compression test, we have defined the material properties of urethane. In the analysis, we verified the safety of the wheel. Finally, we performed a mode analysis using the obtained material properties. With these results, we presented a reliable finite element model.
