  • This paper proposes a new finite control set-model predictive control (FCS-MPC) method for induction motors. In the method, the reference state that satisfies the given torque and rotor flux requirements is derived. Cost indices for the FCS-MPC are defined using the state tracking error, and a linear matrix inequality is formulated to obtain a proper weighting matrix for the state tracking error. The on-line procedure of the proposed FCS-MPC comprises of two steps: select the output voltage vector of the two level inverter minimizing the cost index and compute the optimal modulation factor of the minimizing output voltage vector in order to reduce the state tracking error and torque ripple. The steady state tracking error is removed by using an integrator to adjust the reference state. The simulation and experimental results demonstrated that the proposed FCS-MPC shows good torque, rotor flux control performances at different rotating speeds.

  • In this paper, an alternate method for state-covariance assignment for SISO(single input single output) linear systems is proposed. This method is based on the inverse solution of the Lyapunov matrix equation and the resulting formulas are similar in structure to the formulas for pole placement. Further, the set of all assignable covariance matrices to a SISO linear system is also characterized.

  • m-Phenylene-linked biscarbenes, bisnitrenes and carbenonitrenes can be formed photochemically from appropriate nitrogenous precursors. Generation of such reactive intermediates under matrix-isolation conditions allows for their characterization by spectroscopic techniques such as ESR, UV /vis and IR. The latter method is also useful in characterizing secondary products derived from these reactive intermediates. Computational chemistry methods complement experimental IR data, aiding, thus, in identification of such compounds. In addition electronic structure calculations help in developing qualitative and semi-quantitative models, which can be useful in predicting ground-state multiplicities. The parent systems of m-phenylene-linked carbenes and nitrenes have high-spin ground states, but a switching to lower multiplicity can be achieved by chemical substitution. The ground state and various low-lying excited states of m-phenylenecarbenonitrenes can be reasonably approximated by simple valence-bond depictions. Finally, m-phenylenecarbenonitrenes are photoreactive in the inert matrix isomerizing to cyclopropene derivatives.

  • This paper proposes the receding horizon $H_{\infty}$ predictive control (RHHPC) for systems with a state-delay. We first proposes a new cost function for a finite horizon dynamic game problem. The proposed cost function includes two terminal weighting terns, each of which is parameterized by a positive definite matrix, called a terminal weighting matrix. Secondly, we derive the RHHPC from the solution to the finite dynamic game problem. Thirdly, we propose an LMI condition under which the saddle point value satisfies the well-known nonincreasing monotonicity. Finally, we shows the asymptotic stability and $H_{\infty}$-norm boundedness of the closed-loop system controlled by the proposed RHHPC. Through a numerical example, we show that the proposed RHHC is stabilizing and satisfies the infinite horizon $H_{\infty}$-norm bound.

  • This paper introduces M-ary multitrack run-length (d.k) constrained codes for optical storage systems. We calculate capacities and densities of the codes. We have driven a general form of the state transition matrix for M-ary multitrack (d,k) codes. Using the largest eigenvalue of the transition matrix, we calculate the capacity and density. The capacity approaches to the limit with a small k constraint compared to single-track codes.

  • This paper proposes LQ optimal controller design method based on the modal decomposition. Here, the design problem of linear time-invariant systems is considered by using pencil model. The mathematical model based on matrix pencil is one of the most general representation of the system. By adding some conditions the model can be reduced to traditional system models. In pencil model, the state feedback is considered as an algebraic constraint between the state variable and the control input variable. The algebraic constraint on pencil model is called purely static mode, and is included in infinite mode. Therefore, the information of the constant gain controller is included in the purely static mode of the augmented system which consists of the plant and the control conditions. We pay attention to the coordinate transformation matrix, and LQ optimal controller is derived from the algebraic constraint of the internal variable. The proposed method is applied to the numerical examples, and the results are verified.

  • For an $m{\times}n$ nonnegative integral matrix A, a generalized inverse of A is an $n{\times}m$ nonnegative integral matrix G satisfying AGA = A. In this paper, we characterize nonnegative integral matrices having generalized inverses using the structure of nonnegative integral idempotent matrices. We also define a space decomposition of a nonnegative integral matrix, and prove that a nonnegative integral matrix has a generalized inverse if and only if it has a space decomposition. Using this decomposition, we characterize nonnegative integral matrices having reflexive generalized inverses. And we obtain conditions to have various types of generalized inverses.

  • This study is dedicated to the dynamic elasticity problem for a semi-strip. The semi-strip is loaded by the dynamic load at the center of its short edge. The conditions of fixing are given on the lateral sides of the semi-strip. The initial problem is reduced to one-dimensional problem with the help of Laplace's and Fourier's integral transforms. The one-dimensional boundary problem is formulated as the vector boundary problem in the transform's domain. Its solution is constructed as the superposition of the general solution for the homogeneous vector equation and the partial solution for the inhomogeneous vector equation. The matrix differential calculation is used for the deriving of the general solution. The partial solution is constructed with the help of Green's matrix-function, which is searched as the bilinear expansion. The case of steady-state oscillations is considered. The problem is reduced to the solving of the singular integral equation. The orthogonalization method is applied for the calculations. The stress state of the semi-strip is investigated for the different values of the frequency.

  • In order to investigate the excited-state intramolecular proton transfer (ESIPT) process of dihydroxyanthraquinones (DHAQ; 1,5-DHAQ and 1,8-DHAQ) in organic-inorganic hybrid matrices, transparent SiO2, SiO2- Al2O3, and Al2O3 matrices chemically bonded with DHAQ were prepared using a sol-gel technique. The absorption maxima of 1,5- and 1,8-DHAQ in SiO2 matrices are observed at around 420 nm, whereas those of DHAQ in both SiO2-Al2O3 and Al2O3 matrices are markedly shifted to longer wavelength compared with those in SiO2 matrix. This indicates that DAHQ forms a chemical bond with an Al atom of Al2O3. The DHAQ in SiO2 matrix shows a markedly Stokes-shifted emission which is originated from the ESIPT in DHAQ. Based on the emission lifetimes of DHAQ, the ESIPT of DHAQ was found to be strongly affected by the chemical interaction with Al atom in the Al2O3-related matrices.

  • A new robust stabilizing method of uncertain system is proposed. The model uncertainty is considered to be the system matrix perturbations. The region of perturbed system eigenvalues are estimated by union of the disks which have the constant radius. Full state feedback control matrix which satisfies the new stabilization condition can be obtained by weighted LQ regulator or pole assignment technique.
