  • In this paper, we propose two hot standby architectures which not only provide high system availability but also lose little data on fault occurrence. In order to evaluate the performance of the proposed hot standby architectures, the warm standby architecture. In order to evaluate the performance of the propose d hot standby architectures, the warm standby architecture which is made from the hot standby architecture by eliminating its synchronization unit is considered. After system unavailability for each architecture is computed by using the corresponding Markov state diagram, the results are compared and evaluated. As the results, in most cases, hot standby architectures have higher availability than warm standby architecture. Also, hot standby architecture with external synchronization unit always maintains a little higher availability than hot standby architecture with internal synchronization unit. Active set time and personnel recovery rate for each architecture have little effect on system availability. However, in the case that data recovery time is too long, system availabilities of hot standby architectures and warm standby architecture degrade rapidly. In this case, the performance degradation of hot standby architectures is severe, and system availabilities of hot standby architectures eventually become lower than system availability of warm standby architecture.

  • Using DG for peak-shaving unit could reduce the overall system operating cost, and using DG for standby power unit could improve the reliability of the distribution system The models of peak-shaving unit and standby power unit are different from each other. The Monte-Carlo simulation is suitable for the purpose of the analysis of two DG models. In this paper, the reliability indices are calculated from the time-sequential method, and the merit and defect of the peak-shaving unit and standby power unit are investigated.

  • This paper deals with the effectiveness analysis of an engineering system, which has two units of different strengths in parallel and one unit as a cold standby unit. Failure times for all the units have negative exponential distribution whereas their repair times have general distribution. Single server caters the need for the system. The effectiveness analysis of the system is done by using regenerative point technique. The different measures of effectiveness such as mean sojourn time, mean time to system failure, availability, busy period, etc, are derived. Cost factors also taken into consideration.

  • In this paper, we consider the warm standby redundant system(WSRS) which is consisted of an active unit, a standby unit and a switchover device. In addition, the switchover processing is controlled by a control module. The effect of failure of the control module is taken into account to develop our reliability model for the redundant structure. For the performance evaluation of a redundant system with the function of switchover processing which is assumed to cause the increase of the failure rate of the system, some reliability indices, such as availability, average availability, reliability and steady state availability, are considered.

  • This investigation deals with reliability and sensitivity analysis of a repairable embedded system with standby wherein repairman takes multiple vacations. The hardware system consists of 'M' operating and 'S' standby components. The repairman can leave for multiple vacations of random length during its idle time. Whenever any operating unit fails, it is immediately replaced by a standby unit if available. Moreover, governing equations of an embedded system are constructed using appropriate birth-death rates. The vacation and repair time of repairman are exponentially distributed. The matrix method is used to find the steady-state probabilities of the number of failed components in the embedded system as well as other performance measures. Reliability indexes are presented. Further, numerical experiments are carried out for various system characteristics to examine the effects of different parameter. Using a special class of neuro-fuzzy systems i.e. Adaptive Network-based Fuzzy Interference Systems (ANFIS), we also approximate various performance measures. Finally, the conclusions and future research directions are provided.

  • In this paper, we consider the simple redundant structures with the function of hardware based active/standby control. The system includes two switch modules. The switch module is connected to a data bus, but only the active switch module has control of the data bus. The standby unit takes over the function of the active unit when the active unit failure or mode command are asserted. And this paper illustrate the high-speed router system and the overall redundant system architecture. The proposed redundant architecture for 80G Router system is verified and implemented with experiment.

  • A device is said to have three states if it has one good state and two mutually exclusive failure modes ; e. g., in one failure mode, it operates when it should not, in the other it doesn't operate when it Should. Some examples of such device include a fluid flow valve, an automatic machine, and an explosive. A Markov model is developed to obtain the availability Function of a 2-unit standby redundant system of such devices.
