This research designed usable standard color chart which was planned by hue and tone color system. This research studied 5 types standard color chart by designed tone map and preceding research. "Basic Color Chart 14 Colors" was planned for kindergarteners. "Primary Color Chart 63 Colors" was planned for schoolboys. "Middle Grade Color Chart 114 Colors" was planned for junior high school students. "High Grade Color Chart 152 Colors" was planned for senior high school students. "Hue and Tone 205 Colors" was planned for university students and general publics. These 5 types standard color chart were produced the trial color coordinate card and attached the Munsell notation which could reappear the spare color paper when needed. These 5 types standard color chart would be offered the data base for efficient color coordinate education as school age.

Recently, the use of image analysis methods and commercial equipments has been extensively increased in the field of rock engineering. However the problem of errors involved in the image acquisition and subsequent analysis procedure has been frequently neglected. In addition there has been few studies dealing with this problem. So proper color calibration method is needed to be developed for the objectivity and improvement of reliability on image analysis of rock. Color calibration method using standard color rendition chart was adopted on this study. Color calibration and error analysis were carried out for the image acquired from granite rock samples. As a result, comparison among other rock images and improvement of reliability on whole analysis were possible.

Soil color characteristics were measured by a optical instrument, colorimeter, comparing with the conventional Munsell color chart and related to the chemical properties of soils. Total of the 67 experimental soils were taken from tobacco fields that located at Cheongwon, Enmseong, Boeun, Goesan, Jincheon, and Chungju countries in Chungbuk Province having the 29 soil series including Samgag. The values of L, a, and b measured by colorimeter were closely related with hue, value, and chroma of Munsell color chart, respectively, indicating the quantitative measurement of soil color characteristics. The standard deviations in measurement for L, a, and b values was smaller in soil sample passed by 0.5 mm sieve than 2 mm sieve, suggesting that soil particle size less than 0.5 mm was better condition for colorimeter measurement. The values of L and b measured by colorimeter showed a tendency to decrease as increase of soil moisture content but nearly on difference with moisture condition for the value of a. However, correlation coefficient between air dry samples and wet soil samples(soil moisture retension of -10 hPa) for measurements of L, a and b value were more than 0.9 showing the same tendency in measurement. Consequently, air dry soil passed by 0.5 mm sieve was recommended to desirable conditions for stable measurement by colorimeter. The measured values by colorimeter were significantly correlated with organic matter, CEC, exchangeable Ca and Mg, showing the highest correlation coefficient between L value and organic matter.

This paper proposes an auto flesh tone balance algorithm for the picture that is taken for people. General white balance algorithms bring neutral region into focus. But, other objects can be basis if its spectral reflectance is known. In this paper the basis for white balance is human face. For experiment, first, transfer characteristic of image sensor is analyzed and camera output RGB on average face chromaticity under standard illumination is calculated. Second, Output rate for the image is adjusted to make RGB rate for the face photo area taken under unknown illumination RGB rate that is already calculated. Input tri-stimulus XYZ can be calculated from camera output RGB by camera transfer matrix. And input tri-stimulus XYZ is transformed to standard color space (sRGB) using sRGB transfer matrix. For display, RGB data is encoded as eight-bit data after gamma correction. Algorithm is applied to average face color that is light skin color of Macbeth color chart and average color of various face colors that are actually measured.

In this paper, we propose a color correction technique for images acquired through a multi-view camera system for acquiring a 3D model. It is assumed that the 3D volume is captured indoors, and the position and intensity of the light is constant over time. 8 multi-view cameras are used, and converging toward the center of the space, so even if the lighting is constant, the intensity and angle of light entering each camera may be different. Therefore, a color optimization function is applied to a color correction chart taken from all cameras, and a color conversion matrix defining a relationship between the obtained 8 images is calculated. Using this, the images of all cameras are corrected based on the standard color correction chart. This paper proposed a color correction method to minimize the color difference between cameras when acquiring an image using 8 cameras of 3D objects, and experimentally proved that the color difference between images is reduced when it is restored to a 3D image.

Image processing systems have been used to measure the plant parameters such as size, shape and structure of plants. There are yet some limited applications for evaluating plant colors due to illumination conditions. This study was focused to present adaptive methods to analyze plant leaf color regardless of illumination conditions. Color patches attached on the calibration bars were selected to represent leaf colors of lettuces and to test a possibility of health monitoring of lettuces. Repeatability of assigning leaf colors to color patches was investigated by two-tailed t-test for paired comparison. It resulted that there were no differences of assignment histogram between two images of one lettuce that were acquired at different light conditions. It supported that use of the calibration bars proposed for leaf color analysis provided color constancy, which was one of the most important issues in a video color analysis. A health discrimination equation was developed to classify lettuces into one of two classes, SOUND group and POOR group, using the machine vision. The classification accuracy of the developed health discrimination equation was 80.8%, compared to farmers' decision. This study could provide a feasible method to develop a standard color chart for evaluating leaf colors of plants and plant health monitoring system using the machine vision.

Nuclear medicine imaging devices such as PET diagnose disease after injecting radiopharmaceuticals in human body for diagnosis. Radiopharmaceuticals should maintain the proper pH for human body safety. In general, pH paper is used to measure the pH of the radiopharmaceutical. pH of the sample compared with the standard color chart is used for measurement. However, the pH reading difference according to the experience of a rater can be generated. Also, a pH meter for measuring pH has a high sensitivity and contamination of the sensor must be avoided. In this paper, we developed the new hardware device for pH reading method and software was developed with vision algorithm to measure pH easily and simply.

Color is one of the most effective factor in visual aspect influencing consumer's choice. However, the color preference varies as time passes, society changes, new culture develops, that is variable in its nature. And the underlying meaning or accompanying color image differs in every area. We believe the study on the color preference is meaningful, especially on BRICs market, recently gathering attentions for their market competitiveness and growth potential. For this research, data collected from 5 countries(including Korea) by 1:1 interview during 3 weeks in Aug. 2005. Usable data from 923 adult urban residents were used for final data analysis. Color chart for research was categorized by using COS Color System into KS standard color 10grades plus 1 neutral, with 5 grades of tones. Through this empirical study, the data were analyzed by mean, ANOVA, Duncan-test of SPSS Win(ver.10.0). The result generated from this study are as follows : First, analysis through hue & tone system reveals that preference on principle colors (R, Y, G, B, P) is higher than intermediate colors and pale, light, vivid tones were preferred to dare and deep tones. Second, personal color preference is reflected in color preference in fashion items. Thus, we may conclude color preference in fashion item largely influenced by country characteristics. Third, biggest difference by country from hue analysis are neutral and PB colors. Neutral, widely preferred color in every county, more preferred in India, Russia, Brazil than China. We expect this result can be utilized as a basic material for developing BRICs market.

For the color offset printing, it starts with input of data. The past days, drum scanner or flat scanner used to input of data, but now it changes gradually into using of digital camera because digital camera become popular. The high quality digital camera saves as a data(RAW format), sRGB which have built in digital camera, or Adobe RGB format. sRGB of ICC(International Color Consortium) profile is a standard color gamut of digital camera. Distribution of color gamut in sRGB is less than Adobe RGB have a distribution in ICC profile. sRGB also can not be expressed in some specific part, because distribution of color gamut in sRGB is not able to cover all parts in ICC Profile of international standards CMYK. It is more popular to use Adobe RGB than sRGB to do high quality offset printing and software basis color setting in Europe and Japan. In spite of this data basis, there is a difficulty of doing color correction between the color proofing prints and the final prints. To see how the software color setting effects to RGB data, this thesis will use Gretag Macbeth ColorChecker 24 patch which has the most general natural color chart to compare sRGB and Adobe RGB to check the differences of color changes. It will use the several factors that came out from the process of making ICC Profile to figure out the optimum In-house profile. It also compares the differences of using matt paper and glossy paper to do best quality color proof offset printing, and how the Rendering Intent effects the proof print.

In the past, making IR photography needed somewhat complicated process, so its application fields were limited. However, it has become easy to make IR photography with advanced digital technology, so it is expected that the fields of IR photography and existing limit due to difficult making process will be expanded. Therefore, in this study, it is decided that the need of IR standard chart which allows us to manage exposure and tone of IR photography for scientific purpose will increase. Two methods were used to make IR standard chart. First method is to use aluminum. When aluminum has oxide coating through anodic oxidation, it has high durability, corrosion resistance and heat resistance. Also, IR reflectance of aluminum can be controlled in some degree depending on the thickness of oxide coating. Second method is to use pigments. Yellow 10P150 pigment is used for the brightest patch. This pigment is appropriate in this study due to high heat resistance and IR reflectance. Carbon black is used for the darkest patch. Carbon black absorbs much IR, and its color is not faded by any source of light. IR reflectance is adjusted elaborately by mixing two pigments. Finally, 6 patches are selected with consideration for actual IR reflectance of patches. As a result, IR reflectance of random subjects can be known approximately and IR photographs can have appropriate contrast with the IR standard chart.
