  • For linear operators between Banach algebras "spectral boundedness" is derived from ordinary boundedness by substituting spectral radius for norm. The interplay between this concept and some of its near relatives is conspicuous in a result of Curto and Mathieu.

  • In this paper, a non-overlapping rectangular domain decomposition method is presented in order to numerically solve two-dimensional telegraph equations. The method is unconditionally stable and efficient. Spectral radius of the iteration matrix and convergence rate of the method are provided theoretically and confirmed numerically by MATLAB. Numerical experiments of examples are compared with several methods.

  • In 2017, Nikiforov proposed the A𝛼-matrix of a graph G. This novel matrix is defined as A𝛼(G) = 𝛼D(G) + (1 - 𝛼)A(G), 𝛼 ∈ [0, 1], where D(G) and A(G) are the degree diagonal matrix and adjacency matrix of G, respectively. Recently, Zhai, Xue and Liu [39] considered the Brualdi-Hoffman-type problem for Q-spectra of graphs with given matching number. As a continuance of it, in this contribution we consider the Brualdi-Hoffman-type problem for A𝛼-spectra of graphs with given matching number. We identify the graphs with given size and matching number having the largest A𝛼-spectral radius for ${\alpha}{\in}[{\frac{1}{2}},1)$.

  • In this paper, we are concerned with the algebraic representation of the quasi-nilpotent part for prehermitian operators on Banach spaces. The quasi-nilpotent part of an operator plays a significant role in the spectral theory and Fredholm theory of operators on Banach spaces. Properties of the quasi-nilpotent part are investigated and an application is given to totally paranormal and prehermitian operators.

  • In this paper it is shown that the spectrum ${\sigma}$ is continuous at every p-hyponormal operator when restricted to the set of essentially p-hyponormal operators and moreover ${\sigma}$ is continuous when restricted to the set of compact perturbations of p-hyponormal operators whose spectral pictures have no holes associated with the index zero.

  • We fabricated concave optical fiber tips using hydrofluoric acid solution and photothermal effect induced by $1.55{\mu}m$ wavelength laser applied to an optical fiber. The radius of curvature of the concave optical fiber tips fabricated with different applied laser power, etching time, and concentration of hydrofluoric acid was measured with an optical microscope. Then, we analyzed how the radius of curvature changes for those three variables. In addition, the reliability of the measurement method using a microscope was verified through a free spectral range(FSR) and a scanning electron microscope(SEM). Through this paper, the radius of curvature can be adjusted by the variables of the fabrication process of concave optical fiber tips; thus, it is overcoming the limitations of conventional optical fiber etching methods using hydrofluoric acid solutions.

  • For a switched system with constraint on switching sequences, which is also called a subshift action, on a metric space not necessarily compact, two kinds of topological entropies, average topological entropy and maximal topological entropy, are introduced. Then we give some properties of those topological entropies and estimate the bounds of them for some special systems, such as subshift actions generated by finite smooth maps on p-dimensional Riemannian manifold and by a family of surjective endomorphisms on a compact metrizable group. In particular, for linear switched systems on ${\mathbb{R}}^p$, we obtain a better upper bound, by joint spectral radius, which is sharper than that by Wang et al. in [42,43].

  • For roughened annular pipes with diameter ratios of 0.26, 0.39, and 0.56 and with Reynolds numbers ranging 13,000 to 67,000, friction factor, autocorrelation coefficients, power spectral density functions, and integral length scales for each flow condition using X-type hot wire anemometry system are experimentally investigated. Distributions of these quantities show that the times which the streamwise autocorrelation coefficients become zero first increase with decreasing the radius ratios of concentric annuli and Reynolds numbers, however the power spectra density functions increase with increasing the radius ratios and Reynolds number.

  • For solving complex symmetric positive definite linear systems, we propose a single step real-valued (SSR) iterative method, which does not involve the complex arithmetic. The upper bound on the spectral radius of the iteration matrix of the SSR method is given and its convergence properties are analyzed. In addition, the quasi-optimal parameter which minimizes the upper bound for the spectral radius of the proposed method is computed. Finally, numerical experiments are given to demonstrate the effectiveness and robustness of the propose methods.

  • Temperature distribution of high pressure mercury lamp has been mesured as a function of time using spectroscopic method. Sampling signal which is synchronized by lamp voltage was used to mesure temporal line intensity at each radius. To obtain radial temprature distribution, the mesured intensity was transformed into radial line intensity by Abel's formula. Absolute temperature profile was calculater from relative intensities of spectral lines as a function of line and tube radius. The temperature profile is very similar to the electrical tube current profile.
