In order to understand the influence of ferroxidase center on the protein assembly and solubility of tadpole ferrin, three mutant plasmids, pTH58K, pTH61G, and pTHKG were constructed with the aid of site-directed mutagenesis and mutant proteins were produced in Eshcerichia coli. Mutant ferritin H-subunits produced by the cells carrying plasmids pTH58K and pTHKG were active soluble proteins, whereas the mutant obtained from the plasmid pTH61G was soluble only under osmotic stress in the presence obtained from the plasmid pTH61G was soluble only under osmotic stress in the presence of sorbitol and betaine. Especially, the cells carrying pTH61G together with the plasmid pGroESL harboring the molecular chaperone genes produced soluble ferritin. The mutant ferritin H-subunits were all assembled into ferritin-like holoproteins. These mutant ferritns were capable of forming stable iron cores, which means the mutants are able to accumulate iron with such modified ferroxidase sites. Further functional analysis was also made on the individual amino acid residues of ferroxidase center.

The solubility of Cr in cubic carbides in the systems WC-Co-TaC and WC-Co-ZrC has been determined using equilibrium samples. Thermodynamic calculations were used to design the alloys through extrapolations of Gibbs energy expressions. The alloys were designed to have a microstructure containing the following phases: WC, liquid, $M_7C_3$, graphite and cubic carbide. The alloys were investigated using scanning electron microscopy and analyzed using energy-dispersive X-ray spectrometry. The present work shows how the Cr solubility depends on which cubic carbide former that is present. The WC-Co-Cr-Zr alloy has no detectable amount of Cr whereas the WC-Co-Cr-Ta alloy has 12% Cr in the cubic carbide.
The stability and solubility of piroxicam in propylene glycol (PG), polyethylene glycol (PEC), and PG-water cosolvents have been studied by using high performance liquid chromatography. The degradation rate followed an apparent first-order kinetic and the reaction rate constants at 70, 80, and $90^{circ}C$ were determined. From these rate constants, the activation energy and the rate constant of piroxicam at $25^{circ}C$ in pure PG calculated by Arrhenius equation were 23.34 kcal/mole and $7.0\;{\times}\;10^{-4}\;day^{-1}$, respectively. Both of PG and PEG increased the solubility of the drug, but PEG was more effective.
To increase fire proofing characteristics of protective coating based on soluble alkali silicate, silicate coatings were studied on thermal properties, IR spectroscopy, solubility and intumescence. Intumescence and solubility of the samples were dependent on the strength of cationic cross-links between polysilicate particles. The degree of intumescence and solubility decrease K-silicate > Na-silicate > Li-silicate in the order. Especially Si$_2$O$_{5}$$^{-2}$ crystalline regions were found to exist in Potassium silicate sample. Mixture of two kinds of silicate, for example, Lithium silicate when added to sodium silicate or potassium silicate was find to significantly reduce efflorescence and increase water resistance. This appears to be a result of stronger crosslinking between polysilicate particles by the small lithium cation.
The pure-separation of calcium chloride-treated fibroin hydrolysates could be carried out using gel filtration chromatography. Also, the effect of its enzymatic hydrolysis was investigated in order to find out the enhancement of their functionality. The average molecular weight(Mw), solubility and free amino acid compositions of three hydrolysates samples (calcium chloride, calcium chloride-flavourzyme and calcium chloride-thermoase)were measured to compare their characteristics. The molecular weight of calcium chloride hydrolysate was about Mw 46,800 and it can be reduced to Mw 12,500 and 1,070 upon the enzymatic hydrolysis by flavourzyme and thermoase, repectively. A solubility of calcium chloride-treated samples shows about 60% while calcium chloride/enzyme-treated samples are perfectly soluble (100% solubility). The total amino acid composition of calcium chloride enzymatic hydrolysates are much higher than that of calcium chloride hydrolysate.
Rifampicin-arginine complex was prepared to increase the solubility and dissolution rate of rifampicin. Solvation method was applied to make the complex and its formation was identified by the solubility method, powder x-ray diffractometry, differential thermal analysis and spectroscopic determination. The complex was formed in the molar ratio of 1 : 1 which was proved by the slope ratio method and continuous variation method. The complex was a non-crystalline form determined by the x-ray powder diffractometric analysis. The solubility of complex in water was significantly higher than that of rifampicin itself. The stability constant and thermodynamical properties of the complex were determined to investigate the solubilization phenomena. The thermodynamic data showed that the complexation between rifampicin and arginine was an exothermic and spontaneous reaction. Simulated absorption studies carried out through the artificial lipid barrier in artificial gastric and intestinal juices. The results showed that the complex had an enhanced absorption rate of rifampicin nearly twice compared with that of rifampicin itself.
The solubility variations of Abies koreana Wilson wood and their correlations ammong the factors which effect the extraction were investigated. In hot water solubility for 10 hours, extracted contents were 2.33% in heart wood, 12.30% in sapwood. In base solubility (here, used NaOH), the solubility content was 8.23% only for 1 hour. In organo-soluble fractions, there was not any variation between the content 4.00% for 1 hour and 4.44% for 10 hours, about the temperature effect, in the neutral solvent, at temperature $25{\pm}3^{\circ}C$, $50{\pm}3^{\circ}C$ and $97{\pm}3^{\circ}C$ and the solubility contents were 2.73%, 3.29%, 7.32% respectably. In the pH variations, initinal pH of solution, 6.5 became as low 5.4 after 10 hours extraction. Generally, the correlation coefficients between solubility and hour, solubility and temperature, solubilities' pH and hours, solubility and part, were r=0.890, r=0.986, r=-0.955, r=0.840 respectably. It is suggested that the most serious factor of the extraction in this material is the temperature.
Solubility data of hydrogen sulfide ($H_2S$) and methane ($CH_4$) in two kinds of ionic liquids with the same anion: 1-ethyl-3-methylimidazolium trifluoromethanesulfonate ([emim][TfO]) and 1-butyl-1-methylpyrrolidinium trifluoromethanesulfonate ([bmpyr][TfO]) are presented at pressures up to about 30 MPa and at temperatures between 303 K and 343 K. The gas solubilities in ionic liquids were determined by measuring the bubble point pressures of the gas + ionic liquid mixtures with various compositions at different temperatures using a high-pressure equilibrium apparatus equipped with a variable-volume view cell. The $H_2S$ solubilities in ionic liquid increased with the increase of pressure and decreased with the increase of temperature. On the other hand, the $CH_4$ solubilities in ionic liquid increased significantly with the increase of pressure, but there was little effect of temperature on the $CH_4$ solubility. For the ionic liquds [emim][TfO] and [bmpyr][TfO] with the same anion, the solubility of $H_2S$ as a molality basis was substantially similar, regardless of the temperature and pressure conditions as a molar concentration basis. Comparing the solubilities of $H_2S$ and $CH_4$ in the ionic liquid [emim][TfO], the solubilities of $H_2S$ were much greater than those of $CH_4$. For the same type of ionic liquid, the solubility data of $H_2S$ and $CH_4$ obtained in this study were compared to the solubility data of $CO_2$ from the literature. When compared at the same pressure and temperature conditions, the $CO_2$ solubility was in between the solubility of $H_2S$ and $CH_4$.

The solubility of U(VI) hydrolysis products was determined by using a laser-induced breakdown detection (LIBD) technique. The experiments were carried out at uranium concentrations in range from $2{\times}10^{-4}\;M\;to\;4{\times}10^{-6}\;M$, pH values between 3.8 and 7.0, the constant ionic strength of 0.1 M $NaClO_4$ and the temperature of $25.0{\pm}0.1^{\circ}C$. The solubility product of U(VI) hydrolysis products was calculated from LIBD results by using the hydrolysis constants selected in NEA-TDB. The solubility product extrapolated to zero ionic strength, ${\log}K^{\circ}_{sp}=-22.85{\pm}0.23$ was calculated by using a specific ion interaction theory (SIT). The spectral features of ionic species in uranium solutions were investigated by using a conventional UV-visible absorption spectrophotometer and a fluorophotometer, respectively, $(UO_2)_2(OH)_2^{2+}\;and\;(UO_2)_3(OH)_5^+$ were dominant species at uranium concentration of $2{\times}10^{-4}\;M$.
The cryIB, truncated cryIB$[cryIB({\alpha})]$, cryIA(b), and cytA genes, encoding 135-, 89-, 131-, and 27-kDa proteins, respectively, from Bacillus thuringiensis were cloned into a shuttle vector pBES and expressed in E. coli and Bacillus species. The morphology and solubility in alkaline buffer of the insecticidal crystal proteins were investigated. Transformation of intact cells of E. coli and Bacillus species was achieved by electroporation. High field strength of 11.0 kV/cm and resistance of 129 ohms were required for efficient transformation of E. coli strains and 4.5 kV/cm and 48 ohms for Bacillus species. Strains of recombinant E. coli and Bacillus species produced the insecticidal crystal proteins and accumulated as the same bipyramidal and irregular structures as those of CryIB and IA(b) and CytA of B. thuringiensls, respectively. The insecticidal crystal proteins accumulated in recombinant E. coli wire smaller in size than those in recombinant Bacillus species. The solubility in alkaline buffer of the insecticidal crystal proteins of recombinant E. coli increased gradually as the pH increased, whereas in the case of Bacillus species the solubility increased gradually as the pH increased up to 9 and then the solubility increased greatly up to two times higher than that of E. coli proteins.
