Impacts of Social Support and Acculturative Stress on Depression among Korean Registered Nurses in the United States (재미한인간호사의 사회적 지지, 문화적응 스트레스가 우울에 미치는 영향)

  • Purpose: The purpose of this study was to identify the impacts of social support and acculturative stress on depression among Korean registered nurses in the United States. Method: In total, 137 nurses were recruited through direct interviews and online surveys. The data were collected through a structured questionnaire from June 1, to September 16, 2012, and analyzed using descriptive statistics, t-test, ANOVA, Scheff$\acute{e}$'s test, Pearson correlation coefficient, and stepwise multiple regression with SPSS WIN 14.0. Results: Social support significantly differed by the length of one's nursing career in US, monthly income and perceived health status. Acculturative stress significantly differed by the length of one's nursing career in US and types of employment setting. Depression significantly differed by the total length of one's nursing career, type of employment setting, and perceived health status. Moreover, Depression was negatively correlated with social support; positively correlated with acculturative stress; social support was negatively correlated with acculturative stress. Factors influencing depression were acculturative stress, perceived health status, and social support, which explained about 23% of the total variance. Conclusion: These results suggest that an adaptation program that decreases acculturative stress and improves social support should be developed and implemented for Korean nurses to help them successfully integrate into the healthcare system of new country.

  • The purpose of this study is to examine the effects of residents' perceptions of tourism impact and conflicts on residents' participation in rural tourism village. Method of analysis involves factor analysis and regression analysis in this study. In order to measure the level of perception, three factors(economic benefits, social benefits, social and environmental cost) are derived from the factor analysis. And also in order to measure the level of conflict, two factor(openness of information, leading of operation) are derive from the factor analysis. The result of regression analysis indicate that perceived economic benefits and social benefits are rather greater impacts on residents' participation than social and environmental cost, and also openness of information is rather greater impacts on residents' participation than leading of operation.

  • This study is purposed to a ripple effects of development of a golf course in rural area analyzed to site suitability, social impact of public opinions, and economical impact. And for study, it is setting up development model of gamaksan golf course in geochang-gun will be constructed. It is carried out those as follows;(1) it is, first of all, examined site suitability considering act and site factors, opinion of residence's, and development planning of geochang-gun;(2) it is, secondly, suggested to analyzed social-economic impacts in rual area;(3) it is, finally, established an alternative proposal for development of a golf course considering it's merits and faults. The result of study, A appropriateness of development planning in golf course is focused to 'regional planning integrated', 'educational program for It's', and 'development council committee' considering harmony of a specialist, residents, government employee, businessman for a identity of interests.

  • This study started from ideas on lack of discussion regarding age integration emphasized as an alternative paradigm for aged society and exclusion of policy target from discussion on age integration. This study analyzed potentiality of age integration through comparing the perception on impacts of age integration between policy target and professional. Results showed that policy target perceived social and individual effects of age integration more sceptically than professional. Also, policy target reported higher levels of agreement on development of age friendly environment and increase in social contribution by the aged as social impacts of age integration. Otherwise policy target, professional showed higher levels of agreement on enhancement of social solidarity and increase in mutual understanding among generations. In perception on individual impacts of age integration, policy target differed from professional by emphasizing extension of self-determination and self-autonomy. Lastly, group membership of policy target or professional significantly determined levels of agreement on positive impacts of age integration.

Effects of Individual Motivation on Turnover Intention among Social Workers : Focused on the mediation effects of multiple commitment (사회복지사의 개인적 동기가 이직의도에 미치는 영향 - 다중몰입의 매개효과를 중심으로 -)

  • This study set out to investigate the effects of individual motivation on turnover intention among social workers and examine their turnover intentions in details by focusing on the mediation effects of multiple commitment. To be specific, it aimed to propose and test a prediction model for social workers' turnover intentions based on the Self-determination Theory and Theory of Planned Behavior. For those purposes, a mail survey was taken among social workers working for use facilities, residential facilities, public health centers, social welfare foundations and associations, and all kinds of centers and institutions in 15 cities and provinces across the nation. Total 1,918 questionnaires were distributed, and 1,671 ones were returned, and 979 whose respondents expressed a turnover intention were used in final analysis. The analysis results indicate that psychological motivation of social workers had direct impacts on their turnover intention. However, their role stress had no direct impacts on their turnover intention, which suggests that the impulsive routes model for turnover intention is supported only in psychological motivation and job characteristics. Secondly, their psychological and job motivation turned out to have indirect impacts on turnover intention through the multiple commitment, which suggests that the reflective routes model for turnover intention is supported in all career, job, and organizational commitment. Career commitment had the most significant impacts on turnover intention, being followed by job commitment and organizational commitment in the order, which suggests that the social welfare academy should increase their interest in career commitment.   • The issue of environmental crisis encourages companies to develop strategies and programs which incorporate social and environmental considerations into their processes. The objectives of this study are to identify the strategies used in implementing corporate social and environmental reporting (CSER) and to investigate the impact of these strategies on organization performance. This study uses as its sample companies listed on the Indonesia Stock Exchange (IDX) and engaged in environmentally sensitive business activities and applies content analysis to their annual reports. The data used in the study is secondary data in the form of annual and sustainability reports of companies, and primary data in the form of interviews. The results show that companies use both reactive and proactive strategies in reporting their social and environmental activities. The study also identifies the impacts of such reporting on both the financial and non-financial performances of the investigated companies. The study contributes to the social and environmental accounting literature by exploring the motivations and strategies of companies in their CSER. The empirical results will provide important insights into the influence of the strategies employed by companies in their corporate social and environmental reporting and the impacts of such strategies on organizational performance.

Residents' Perceptions of Social and Cultural Impacts of the Sport Event - Focus on the Kumsu Mountains Marathon Race 2005 in Jecheon - (스포츠 이벤트 개최로 인한 사회문화적 영향분석 - 2005 제천 산악마라톤대회를 중심으로 -)

  • This study is based on the sport event(mountains marathon race 2005 in Jecheon) of social and cultural impact. The results were as fallows: Factor analysis of 19 positive impact items produced five dimensions and factor analysis of 9 negative impact items produced two dimensions. As an example of results, younger generations (those in 20s and 30s) and service employees tended to perceive the impacts of the sport event more positively than other age or occupation groups. Thus, the results indicated that attitudes toward the event are likely to differ across socio-demographic characteristics.

  • Evaluation methods are employed in environmental impact assessment to choose between different project site, to determine the required measures to compensate impact and to decide whether the environmental impacts are more important than the social or economic effects of a project. The main obstacles that restrict use of quantitative evaluation method are a Lack of knowledge about the environmental effects (e.g. if impacts on wildlife or landscape amenities are predicted) and the relative importance of economic and social issues compared with nature conservation stability of ecosystem or landscape beauty. In Germany, the most common method for site planning is the "ecological risk analysis". It is a kind of multi-criteria-decision-method based on quantitative and qualitative description and ordinal ranking. The various kinds of "ecological balancing methods" that are more recently developed (within the last decade) to quantify the required amount for compensatory measures instead often use cardinal figures to express the value of ecosystems, the intensity of impacts, the need for additional measures to compensate for long recuperative periods when restoring ecosystems and so on. There are still only a view attempts to quantify decisions between environmental and socio-economic issues. Multicriteria-analysis as well as cost-benifit-analysis was used. Some new approaches which are still in a preliminary status are based on contingent valuation and on calculations for compensatory payments (instead of compensatory measures).

Analysis on Damages of Carcass Disposal in Rural Area in Terms of Environmental Welfare Approach: A Questionnaire Based Survey (환경복지적 관점에서의 농촌지역 가축매몰지 피해 분석 - 설문조사를 중심으로 -)

  • As carcass disposal is increasing widely in Republic of Korea, there is a need to comprehensively analyze the impacts and subsequent damages of carcass disposal. Especially, since environmental policy aims to not only reduce environmental damages, but also enhance overall sustainability, we apply the concept of environmental welfare to assess the comprehensive impact of carcass disposal, especially focusing on the rural area. In specific, assessment criteria were suggested based on the four categories related to environmental welfare, which were 'environmental quality', 'level of environmental service', 'environmental safety', and 'participation, openness to public, and communication'. The results showed negative impacts of carcass disposal in environmental, social and economical elements. Overall decrease in environmental quality negatively impacts the other elements of environmental welfare. Furthermore, there were discrepancies of level of impacts and damages among stakeholder. In the end, we suggest critical elements that need to be applied in relevant policies and regulation to promote effective carcass disposal management.

CEO Humble Leadership and Corporate Social Responsibility: The Moderating Effect of Firm Slack

  • Purpose: Strategic management scholars have investigated the effects of corporate social responsibility (CSR) on firm financial performance, identifying various impacts of CSR activities showing conflicting results. Meanwhile, relatively less attention has been paid to the antecedents of CSR activities. According to upper echelons theory, organizational outcomes are predicted by characteristics of CEOs and top management team members. Corporate social responsibility is a type of organizational outcome influenced by such top leader characteristics and choices. Recognizing the importance of exploring new antecedents of CSR activities, I examine whether CEO humility affects CSR outcomes. Research design, data and methodology: The KEJI index was set as a dependent variable to measure CSR activities. Among the 200 sample companies registered in the KEJI database in 2014, 85 companies were finally selected and analyzed to measure CEO humility, as independent variable. I also examine the moderating effects of firm slack on the relationship between CEO humility and CSR activities. Results: There is a positive relationship between CEO humility and corporate social responsibility activities and this relationship is negatively moderated by firm slack. Conclusions: This paper contributes to understanding positive impacts of having humble CEOs on corporate social responsibility outcomes and recognizes the role of firm slack.
