The relationship between visual perception and social skills in late adolescence

  • It is necessary to investigate how age or gender affects visual perception and social skills in late adolescence. A study on the relevance of visual perception in late adolescence, a period that requires social adaptation through the development of social functions, is necessary. The purpose of this study is to investigate the relationship between visual perception and social skills in adolescence. Visual perception and social skill were evaluated for 18-24-year-olds, who are in late adolescence, and were analyzed for gender differences and correlations with chronological age. This study found that there was a difference in visual perceptual function according to gender in late adolescence, and it was significantly higher in men. There was no significant difference in social skills according to gender. However, there was a significantly positive correlation between chronological age and visual perception, but there was no correlation with social skills. These findings provide novel information regarding the developmental course of visual perception and social skill in late adolescence.

영아-어머니의 상호작용 방식과 영아기 사회적 의사소통능력 (The Interrelationship of Infant-Mother Interaction and Early Social Communication Skills)

  • Responsiveness and initiative between infant and mother from toy centered play situation at 6, 7 months of age and infant's social communication skills at 12 months were studied in a sample of 62 infant-mother pairs. Through the video analysis, infants were grouped into simple react group, cooperated group, and active initiative group. In the between groups, we analyzed whether mother's initiative act styles and response styles were different, and whether their social communication skills were different when they tested at 12 months. The results showed that mother's initiative styles were not different but mother's response styles were significantly different with infant groups. Further result showed that cooperated group gained higher score than active initiative group in the total score of Eary Social Communication Skills scales at 12 months of age. The results suggested that mother's responsive behaviors were more important than initiative behaviors for the infant's positive interaction, and the difference of these behaviors would lead to a gap of early social communication abilities.

유아의 창의적 문제해결력 증진을 위한 프로그램: 그림책을 활용한 협동활동 중심으로 (A Program To Promote Young Children's Creative Problem-Solving Skills : Focus on Cooperative Activities Using Picture Books)

  • Objective: This study was to develop a creative problem-solving(CPS) program conducive to the improvement of young children's creativity, creative problem-solving competence, social and communication skills. The program was based on the picture books, focusing on young children's cooperative activities. Methods: In order to verify the effectiveness of the program, 99 five-year-old children were induced to participate in it. In order to verify the effectiveness of the program, data were analyzed in advance and post hoc test was conducted using the SPSS 22.0 program. Results: This program had positive effects on children's creativity, creative problem-solving competence, social and communication skills. Conclusion/Implications: The purpose of the program was to solve the problems we face in our daily life creatively through cooperative activities. The creative problem-solving(CPS) program for the young children focused on cooperative activities using the picture books was very effective in improving young children's creativity, creative problem-solving competence, social and communication skills.

또래상담 프로그램이 인문계 고등학생의 의사소통기술과 사회적 효능감에 미치는 효과 (Effects of Peer Counseling Program on the Communication Skills and Social Efficacy in High School Students)

  • 본 연구는 또래상담 프로그램이 고등학생의 의사소통과 사회적 효능감에 어떠한 효과를 미치는지를 알아보기 위하여 경기도 A시에 소재한 C고등학교 1학년 학생 중 연구에 참가를 희망하는 16명을 모집하여 실험집단 8명, 통제집단 8명으로 무선 배정하였다. 실험집단과 통제집단 간의 사전 검사 검정과 사후 검사 검증, 그리고 실험집단과 통제집단의 집단내 사전-사후 검증에 대해서는 비모수적 통계인 Mann-Whitney U test와 Wilcoxon Signed Ranks test로 분석하였다. 연구의 결과는 다음과 같다. 첫째, 또래상담 프로그램을 경험한 실험집단은 통제집단보다 의사소통에서 통계적으로 유의미한 효과가 있었다. 둘째, 또래상담 프로그램을 경험한 실험집단은 통제집단보다 사회적 효능감에서 통계적으로 유의미한 효과가 있었다. 따라서 또래상담 프로그램이 고등학생의 의사소통과 사회적 효능감에 긍정적인 방향으로 영향을 미친다는 사실을 알 수 있다. 이로 인하여 또래상담 프로그램은 고등학생들에게 유익한 프로그램이라 여겨지며 학교에서 적극적으로 이 프로그램이 활용되어야 한다고 본다.

Effects of Critical Thinking and Communication Skills on the Problem-Solving Ability of Dental Hygiene Students

  • Background: This study aimed to investigate the effects of critical thinking and good communication skills on the problem-solving abilities of dental hygiene students. Methods: A total of 508 dental hygiene students were convenience-sampled from 3 universities. Results: The results revealed that critical thinking had the highest intellectual fairness score of 3.60, and systematicity was the lowest at 3.19. The values for communication skills were high in reaction, social adequacy, and concentration, with an average of 3.65. Problem-solving abilities were in the following order: clarification of the problem, seeking solutions, and decision making. According to general characteristics, more extroverted personalities possessed higher levels of critical thinking, communication skills, and problem-solving abilities (p<0.01). Critical thinking scores were high (p=0.016) in students who responded that peer relationship was difficult; however, their communication skills were the lowest (p<0.001). Additionally, problem-solving abilities were highest among students who reported a difficult peer relationship (p=0.001). The higher the satisfaction with dental hygiene academics, the higher the critical thinking, communication skill, and problem-solving ability (p<0.001). Critical thinking showed a high positive correlation with variables in the following order: clarification of the problem, performing the solutions, seeking solutions, decision making, and evaluation and reflection. The communication skills were also related to these variables listed above (p<0.01). With critical thinking, confidence, watchfulness, intellectual passion/curiosity, sound skepticism, objectivity, and systematicity all influenced the problem-solving ability. Conclusion: Communication skills were influenced by noise control, putting on the other's shoe, social tensions, and efficiency, which affected the problem-solving ability. Dental clinics require dental hygienists to have critical thinking to make analytical judgments and effective communication skills to solve human relation problems with patients and care-givers. Therefore, these skills should be developed in dental hygiene students to improve their problem-solving abilities.

  • This study examined the effects of the Empowering Parents Training(EPT) program with emphasis on mother's parental satisfaction and communication skills and children's self-esteem and social competence. Subjects were 73 mothers and their 4th to 6th grade children in elementary schools in Seoul and Kyonggi-do. Thirty-seven mother-child dyads were assigned to the education group and 36 dyads were assigned to the comparison group. Mothers in the education group received EPT in 7 sessions. Statistical methods adopted for data analyses were ANCOVA and Scheffe test. EPT had a positive effect on enhancing mothers' parental satisfaction and communication skills. EPT had some positive influence on children's self-esteem and social competence. The executive model of EPT used in this study was considered effective by the parents and lecturers.

  • 소프트웨어교육은 학습자로 하여금 문제의 해결책을 정보처리 체계에 의해 효과적으로 처리되도록 문제를 구성하고 자신의 사고를 제시할 수 있는 컴퓨팅 사고력 증진을 목표로 하고 있다. 더욱이 이 컴퓨팅 사고력이 발현되는 문제해결의 장이 실제적인 사회적 맥락 속에서 의미 있는 문제해결의 경험을 제공해 줄 때 더 바람직한 소프트웨어교육이 될 수 있을 것이다. 본 연구에서는 소프트웨어교육에서 구체적인 결과물을 볼 수 있다는 장점을 가지고 있는 교육용 로봇을 활용하여 학습자가 몰입하여 해결할 수 있는 사회적 문제 상황 속에서 로봇과 프로그래밍을 결합하여 동료들과 함께 문제를 해결할 수 있는 기회를 제공하는 로봇기반 SW융합수업을 초등학교 4학년 학생을 대상으로 운영하고 그 효과를 컴퓨팅 사고력과 사회적 역량(협업능력과 의사소통능력) 측면에서 살펴보았다. 본 연구는 초등교육 현장에서 사회적 맥락을 가진 문제해결상황에서 컴퓨팅 사고력을 배양할 수 있는 교육용로봇기반 SW융합수업 사례를 제공하고, 이 수업의 효과성을 컴퓨팅 사고력과 사회적 역량의 관점에서 제시하였다는 점에서 의의가 있다.

The Roles of Social Competence and Outcome Expectancy in Predicting Communication Activities on Social Networking Sites

  • Previous research has provided inconsistent findings as to whether socially (in)competent individuals benefit from social networking sites (SNSs) use. Based on the rich-get-richer model, some studies have shown that socially competent individuals expand their existing networks even further via SNSs use. Based on the poor-get-richer model, other studies have shown that those with poor social skills can achieve beneficiary outcomes from SNSs use by overcoming their deficient social resources of offline environments. The present study is devised to add evidence regarding how and why social skills are related to SNSs use. To this end, we tested the relationships between social competence and three types of Facebook communication activities: interaction, self-presentation, and passive observation. Further, drawing on the social cognitive theory, the mediating role of outcome expectancy in the relationship between social competence and Facebook communication activities was examined. Using an online survey in South Korea (N = 708), it was found that individuals with higher social competence were more likely than those with lower social competence to engage in interaction, self-presentation, passive observation on Facebook. Moreover, these relationships were mediated by outcome expectancy that the desired social outcomes could be achieved as a result of Facebook use.

사회적 자본에 따른 6차산업 기업가정신이 경영성과에 미치는 영향 (The Effect of the Sixth Industrial Entrepreneurship by Social Capital on Business Performances)

  • Purpose The purpose of this study was to investigate the relationship between the 6th industrial entrepreneurship and business performances on social capital. The 6th industry based on its social capital can have a significant impact on business performances. Design/Methodology/Approach For this reason, we examined the relationship between entrepreneurship and business performance using the moderator variables of social capital and the Sixth industry certification. As a result, the 6th industrial entrepreneurship affects significant positive business performance. In particular, the authenticity, communication skills, social responsibility, collaborative, risk susceptibility, and challenging mind have a positive effect on business performances. As a result of moderation effect analysis, the 6th industry certification has no interaction effect of entrepreneurship, and only challenging mind and communication skills, the authenticity showed that the positive effect on business performances. Findings Social capital has interaction effects on the 6th industry entrepreneurship. Low level of social capital improves business performance through a strong challenging mind and social responsibility. High level of social capital are more demanding authenticity, collaboration, and risk sensitivity. And the higher level of social capital, the lower the communication ability, electrical conductivity, and social responsibility.

직장 여성의 사회적 매력에 대한 인식과 외모 관리 행동 연구 (Career Women's Perception of Social Attractiveness and Appearance Management Behavior)

  • This study focused on working women's perceptions of social attractiveness and their appearance management behavior. Social attractiveness is defined as individuals' achieved attractiveness which can be expressed through social expressive power or social skills rather than innate physical appearance. This study was empirically conducted through questionnaires distributed to 200 working women in South Korea. According to the results, the participants recognized four factors constituting social attractiveness: physical appearance management, business manners, social skills, and sexual attractiveness. When they were asked to assess themselves on the same measures, these characteristics were further classified into six factors: business manners, feminine attractiveness, fashion sense, sociability, communication skills, and active appearance management. Their self-perceived social attractiveness was found to be influenced by all these factors in the order of feminine attractiveness, business manners, sociability, communication skills. Based on the self-presentation tendencies, the participants were classified into various groups, including the passive management group, daily life-oriented management group, work-oriented management group, neutral group, and active management group. The relative importance of the social attractiveness components was found to differ by group, although working women in all groups rated weight management higher than appearance management behavior. This study has implications in that it facilitates an understanding of the concept of social attractiveness and also provides a foundation base in terms of beauty consulting and marketing for working women to improve their social attractiveness.
