  • In Korea, there is a lack of adequate safety management for small-scale construction work, particularly when compared to large-scale construction projects. The number of construction disasters is also higher on small-scale construction sites. In this regard, this study aimed to develop the application prototype to support the safety management of small-scale construction projects. The major findings of the research are as follows. 1) About 60% of construction disasters and death occurred on small-scale construction sites over the last two years. In addition, institutional support and costs for safety management were found to be insufficient. 2) The items of the application for the small-scale construction safety management were constructed on the basis of the safety management of large-scale construction work. The contents of the application were confirmed based on a survey of small-scale construction project managers. 3) The application algorithm was developed with a focus on the roles of management subjects and information exchange. For transition from the application prototype presented in this study to a commercial product, further research needs to be conducted regarding the reflection of user requirements and application management subjects.

  • Small-scale ground mobile robots can access confined spaces where people or larger robots are unable. As the scale of the robot decreases, the relative size of the environment increases; therefore, maintaining the mobility of the small-scale robot is required. However, small-scale robots have limitations in using a large number of high-performance actuators, powerful computational devices, and a power source. Insects can effectively navigate various terrains in nature with their legged motion. Discrete contact with the ground and the foot enables creatures to traverse irregular surfaces. Inspired by the leg motion of the insect, researchers have developed small-scale robots and they implemented swing and lifting motions of the leg by designing leg linkages that can be adapted to small-scale robots. In this paper, we propose a leg linkage design for insect-inspired small-scale ground mobile robots. To use minimal actuation and reduce the control complexity, we designed a 1-DOF 3-dimensional leg linkage that can generate a proper leg trajectory using one continuous rotational input. We analyzed the kinematics of the proposed leg linkage to investigate the effect of link parameters on the foot trajectory.

  • Interferon regulatory factor 3 (IRF3) integrates both immunological and non-immunological inputs to control cell survival and death. Small GTPases are versatile functional switches that lie on the very upstream in signal transduction pathways, of which duration of activation is very transient. The large number of homologous proteins and the requirement for site-directed mutagenesis have hindered attempts to investigate the link between small GTPases and IRF3. Here, we constructed a constitutively active mutant expression library for small GTPase expression using Gibson assembly cloning. Small-scale screening identified multiple GTPases capable of promoting IRF3 phosphorylation. Intriguingly, 27 of 152 GTPases, including ARF1, RHEB, RHEBL1, and RAN, were found to increase IRF3 phosphorylation. Unbiased screening enabled us to investigate the sequence-activity relationship between the GTPases and IRF3. We found that the regulation of IRF3 by small GTPases was dependent on TBK1. Our work reveals the significant contribution of GTPases in IRF3 signaling and the potential role of IRF3 in GTPase function, providing a novel therapeutic approach against diseases with GTPase overexpression or active mutations, such as cancer.

  • Recent weddings have been performed in more unique and characterful styles going beyond the existing same old method of past weddings, and they are changed into small weddings with simplified style without unnecessary procedures by choosing a wedding venue different from others. It is necessary to develop a new wedding dress design suitable for such changing wedding culture, and especially, dresses are required to have some practical designs, so that they can be worn not only for the wedding ceremony or party but also for everyday life. Therefore, the purpose of this study is to develop a new normal wedding dress for small weddings that reflect design according to the emerging small wedding culture. To this end, a theoretical review of small weddings was conducted, and based on this, a new normal wedding dress design was developed for small weddings. Based on practicality and economic feasibility, the New Normal Wedding Dress exhibited 'variable by wearing method' that changes according to the wearer's purpose and 'variable by attaching and detaching method' that changes according to the detachment of details. The small wedding dress developed through this study is expected to become a new standard for wedding dresses that is suitable for the changing wedding culture.

  • A 12-year-old spayed female dog presented with vomiting and anorexia for four days. Radiographic examination revealed that the small intestines were distended with fecal material. Ultrasound examination showed irregular marginated material with moderate shadowing throughout several segments of the small intestines. Proximal to this intestinal material, small intestines were distended with fluid. The patient underwent one-day of hospitalization, and descent of small bowel fecal materials (SBFMs) was confirmed on radiographs. However, surgical removal was performed due to worsening clinical signs and echogenic changes in the mesentery observed on ultrasound. During surgery, intestinal congestion was observed along with congestion and edema in the surrounding mesentery. Two segments of the small intestines were resected, and feces were found within the resected segments. The patient showed rapid recovery postoperatively and experienced no recurrence. SBFM can induce mechanical intestinal obstruction, and if radiographic evidence of SBFM is observed in patients with vomiting, surgical resection would be considered.

  • To investigate the function of chloroplast small heat shock protein (HSP), transgenic tobacco plants (Nicotiana tabacum L, cv. SR-1) that constitutively overexpress the rice chloroplast small HSP (Oshsp26) were generated. Effects of constitutive expression of the Oshsp26 on thermotolerance were investigated with the chlorophyll fluorescence. After 5-min incubation of leaf discs at high temperatures, an increase in the Fo level, indication of separation of LHCII from PSII, was mitigated by constitutive expression of the chloroplast small HSP When tobacco plantlets grown in Petri dishes were incubated at $20^{\circ}C$/TEX> for 45 min and subsequently incubated at $20^{\circ}C$/TEX> leaf color of wild-type plant became gradually white and all plantlets were finally died. Under the conditions in which all the wild-type plants died, more than 80% of the transformants remained green and survived. It was also found that the levels of Oshsp26 protein accumulated in transgenic plants were correlated with the degree of thermotolerance. These results suggest that the chloroplast small HSP plays an important role in protecting photosynthetic machinery, as a results, increases thermotolerance of whole plant during heat stress.

  • With the recent increase in the number of one- and two-person households, demand for small-sized apartments has been on the rise, and lifestyles have seen swift changes to cater to smaller-sized housing. The construction market is shifting toward small-sized apartments, and research is now needed on the lifestyles of those living in small-sized apartments in order to develop suitable housing units. Therefore, this study aims to produce a planning concept for housing units by lifestyle, categorizing residents based on lifestyle and identifying their LDK preferences. Regarding methodology, prior research was reviewed to validate housing-related lifestyle factors and study the lifestyles of those living in small-sized apartments. Lifestyle categories based on housing type were determined by a cluster analysis, and LDK preferences for each lifestyle were analyzed through a survey. These data were then used to propose a planning concept with small-sized apartments for each lifestyle type. Thirty-two factors for categorizing lifestyles were obtained by studying three domains of housing-related lifestyle factors: 'housing values', 'attitudes toward living space', and 'behavior in living space; A total of 648 people living in small-sized apartments were classified into three lifestyle groups: 'True Family Benefiters', 'Smart Shopaholics', and 'Slow Heritage Pursuers'. 'Each group's lifestyle characteristics and socio-demographic features were used to classify the lifestyles of those living in small-sized apartments. The LDK preferences for each lifestyle were analyzed to design a planning concept for small-sized apartment.

  • Small satellites can be used for various space research and scientific or educational purposes due to advantages in small size, low-cost, and rapid development. Small Satellites have many advantages of application to Responsive Space. Compared to traditional larger satellites, however, Small satellites have many constraints due to limitations in size. Therefore, it is difficult to expect high performance. To approach maximum capability with minimal size, weight, and cost, standard modular platform of Small satellites is necessary. Modularity supports plug-and-play architecture. The result is Small satellites that can be combined quickly and reliably using plug-and-play mechanisms. For communication between modules, standard bus interface is needed. Controller Area Network(CAN) protocol is considered optimum data bus for modular Small satellite. CAN can be applied to data communication with high reliability. Hence, design optimization and simplification can also be expected. For ease of assembly and integration, modular design can be considered. This paper proposes development method for standardized modular Small satellites, and describes design of data interface based on CAN and a method of testing for modularity.
